Launching works for all programs except HP printer/scanner 2110.Uninstalled printer, when re-installed error message was java virtual machine cannot be loaded. Downloaded Java and ran. Disabled Norton and re-installed HP. Enabled Norton. No error message, but still can't launch from desktop.

After installing it and using it for 3-4 months we had power outage and when the power came back, somehow the "Windows Fax" that comes with Windows XP Home, had taken over answering my phone on the second ring! Believe me I have tried everything, uninstalling then installing, changing the number rings before it answers, disabling, and still that #@$ still answers my phone, which caller hear as a loud fax scream in their ear and they have to hang up.My HP fax eavesdrops and when I don't answer my phone the answer machine picks up on the 4th ring which the HP hears and if it is a fax tone automatically recieves it. I love that it picks up without my having to do anything.

Let's say you have a game installed called HIGH NEEDS and the executable is called HN.exe. Here's what to do. Create a new textfile in the game-app wathever-directory (let's say C:HN), but instead of giving it the .txt extension you name it HN.bat-Right-click this file and choose 'Edit', you'll see it'll open notepad. Put this line in:cmd /c start /High HN.exe-Save (make sure you save it as .bat, not as .txt) and close. Now create a shortcut to this file and place it on your desktop. Every time you doubleclick this shortcut HIGH NEEDS will open with priority set to 'high'. (ofcourse you can also create a batchfile on your desktop, containing the full path of the app you want to start but the nice thing of creating a shortcut is you can give it an icon).

I bought a new HP printer today. I had a hotfix installed at some point that shutdown and woke up my printer at shutdown and startup. The new printer isn't affected by this hotfix. Does anyone know where I can get this patch?

PC2 connects and sees printer when I cable the USB DIRECTLY to the printer instead of going thru a switch. Therefore, I know PC2 can print. Have tried 2 different switches. An A/B data switch and Belkin's 4x1 USB Peripheral Switch F1U401. PC1 works with both switches but PC2 does not.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe've had to change our address space and therefore the printer address has changed. I've changed the address on all but one computer. On this particular computer when I try to edit the TCP/IP port I get the message:
"An error occurred during port configuration. Access is denied."
If I try to create a new port I can select that I want it to be a Standard TCP/IP Port and then it tells me:
"Specified port cannot be added. Access is denied."
I have connected 3 new PC's on a P2P network, and connected a HP 4610 Color Laser Printer via a JetDirect 175 print server. On one PC, I can only print from the Administrator account. The other 2 computers work fine. On the one that is having issues, when printing a test page I receive a "Failed to Print" error mesage, and looking in the printer jobs menu, it shows that there was an error printing. The
Administrator account can print fine from this machine.
The user accounts are "restricted user" accounts on all 3 computers.
All 3 computers are exactly the same type, and all have the latest
updates.
After a system crash all printers are gone and when trying to add a printer I get the message:
"Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running" After starting the service manually and trying to add a printer I get the message:"Operation could not be completed" and the service is stopped again.I looked at some of the previous answers and related topics (like article nine, and Q324757

I'm a tech at a college and am working on this computer that the printer spooler service won't stay started.You start up the machine and go to printers and faxes. There are none listed (of course cause the spooler isn't running) You click on add printer and it tells you that the service isn't running. So you go to run services.msc, printer spooler says it's stopped so you start it. It will then run until you try to print something or go to printers and faxes in the control panel. Basically as soon as you open the window the printer spooler service stops.Does anyone know a fix for this. Last time it happened one of my co-workers found a tool to fix it but we haven't been able to find it since and all the researching I have done leads me nowhere

This problem has been going on a couple of months, slowly I've been getting a handle on it which seems to concern my scanner, although its been connected to the computer for years, it still works happily. I have not added anything, would have contributed to the problem, apart from regular updates from Microsoft, AVG etc. The version of svchost running is part of Windows Image Acquisition. It tends to be using somewhere between 6 and 20% of the processor. But the part which eventually causes the computer to slow down and crash is that it is adding about 100 handles a second, as seen in task manager. I used to scan using the camera and scanner wizard because the scan button on the printer never has worked. Now it shows the printer being an image scanner but there's no little arrow beside it. I don't think it's being recognized, but the printer works perfectly. The error says the install shield engine (ikernal.exe) could not be launched. the rpc server is unavailable.

I am having problems with XP recognizing the scanner on my HP PSC 2110 which had worked well on ME. I also can not get XP to recoginize my Vivitar Camera, both are connected using USB ports.I have uninstalled and reinstalled both software packages to no avail.
Printer works even though it is not recognized.
Everybody who ownes a Mustek 600 II N scanner and want to install it under XP will notice it won't work. Mustek's website says the scanner is not supported under Windows XP.select the exact drivers by looking up the first two letters of the serialnumber found under the barcode on the backside of the scanner. Before installing the driver click right on the .exe file and go to properties, compatibility and select 'Windows NT4' from the pulldown menu.Now install the drivers and it should work. I'm running Windows XP PRO here but i'm sure it will work under XP Home too.If you own another, unsupported Mustek scanner you can try the same

View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen i go to Start,Run,type msconfig, i get the error message:Windows cannot find msconfig.Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.To search for a file click the Start button and then click Search; same thing happens ,I do have msconfig in the computer and the path is: C:/WINDOWS/pchealth/helpctr/binaries. Same path for the Help & Support.
I `m aware that there is not reference(or key)for the above subjects(msconfig-Help & Support) in the registry and i`m not confident enough to alter it, so
EXTREMELY ANNOYING problem I'm encountering... I'll turn on my PC and 1/3 times nothing will launch. What I mean is, I'll click on a shortcut and the little cursor will display the thinking symbol as if it's aunching, my HD (or cpu?) will click, then nothing. Nothing happens. Every single application is like this, including a Ctrl-Alt-Delete, I can't even launch task manager, or My Computer... NOTHING. Everything that is open currently works fine though, I can browse places in firefox, change songs in winamp etc. I just can't launch new applications or shutdown my computer. I'll go to start -> turn off computer -> shut down, and nothing happens. I have to manually force restart my PC everytime this happens and it's really getting bothersome. View 4 Replies View RelatedIt doesn't seem like any of the posts that I've seen have the same detailed characteristics as my situation. Whenever my computer is started and logged on, a few minutes go by, then the message "unable to launch restart.exe" pops up. Once we hit the OK button, everything seems to be fine. So it's not a big problem, but it's kind of a nuisance.
As I said previously, I have read MANY other posts regarding this error, but it seems everyone was having much more serious problems regarding this message. This computer seems to run just fine after we hit the OK button on the error message. FYI... this is an HP computer, running XP Home Edition, P4 2.93 Ghz, 1 Gig ram, Ad-aware is installed, and Norton Internet Security 2006, both of which are fully up-to-date and scans have been performed. All standard windows disk utilities have also been run. I don't know what else is appropriate to tell you. I do have Hijack This installed and have run it once... but at the time I wasn't registered for any of these help forums. If needed I can run it again and save the log file for someone to assist me.
I'm presently running a weekly scan with Defenders from Windows, Windows OneCare Safety Scanner and then I run Avira AntiVir Personal. I've also enabled Windows Firewall but wonder if its sufficient. Am I duplicating my efforts between the three and is Win Firewall enough
