Printer Spooler Won't Stay On - Printer Spooler Service
Mar 10, 2008
I'm a tech at a college and am working on this computer that the printer spooler service won't stay started. You start up the machine and go to printers and faxes. There are none listed (of course cause the spooler isn't running) You click on add printer and it tells you that the service isn't running. So you go to run services.msc, printer spooler says it's stopped so you start it. It will then run until you try to print something or go to printers and faxes in the control panel. Basically as soon as you open the window the printer spooler service stops.Does anyone know a fix for this. Last time it happened one of my co-workers found a tool to fix it but we haven't been able to find it since and all the researching I have done leads me nowhere
I am running widows XP with SP2 installed and have never had problems with the 2 printers I have installed. A Lexmark X2250 & HP photosmart 7760 untill we had to take the computer in to have Norton antivirus 2005 update installed. When we got it back I found that both my printers did not work & neather of them showed up in the control panal. When I tried to print I got a message reading "Windows can not connect printer. The printer spooler is not running". I contacted the company that put Norton in & they said they touch the printers. Can anyone help me on how to correct this problem or direct me to where I can get info. on the printer spooler so I can reinstall my printers? I am very new at working on the computer be would like to learn.
First i am using xp, nobody can help me, i called the pritner manufactor, microsoft, and my computer manufactorer. for some reason the spooler service is not running. i try to start and says the depenecy services cannot be started, and i clicked on properties and these one are listed: LexBce server, and remote procedure call. the printer is all in one, and shows up on device manager, and lets me scan, i just cant print, i used to have a lexmark, and im wondering did uninstall correctly and if that s why its giving me problems...also on top of that when i click on start and try to go to help and support it tells me it cannot find the file, same thing when i click on run and type msconfig, cannot find that either. i did a system restore, and it did nothing, i p aid emachines 20 dollars for their "support".....
After a system crash all printers are gone and when trying to add a printer I get the message: "Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running" After starting the service manually and trying to add a printer I get the message:"Operation could not be completed" and the service is stopped again.I looked at some of the previous answers and related topics (like article nine, and Q324757
I tried support at the Symantec site, and searched Google.Others seem to have the same problem, but I cannot find a solution. After installing Norton Internet Security 2005, I keep getting constant pop up messages about the printer spooler when I open NIS. The printer operates fine.It is NIS that is causing the problem. It is odd that I have found so many posts at Google about this, but that the Symantec knowledgebase has nothing.
Im running XP Professional, SP 2, on an Intel P3 1Ghz, 512 MB of RAM.I deleted my old Lexmark printer after I installed a new HP. Now my printer wont work. I tried restarting the print spooler and nothing. I checked the dependencies and both boxes are 'GREY' (closed) and show no dependencies listed.Im thinking I deleted some files or file required to operate the spooler/printer? Or is it possobly spyware or something causing this problem? I did perform a registry cleanup after the installation of the new HP printer.
Tried to use her wireless adapter on my wireless network and ever since that day I've had printer problems. What happens when I say print is the printer icon appears in my taskbar, hangs around for about 15 seconds (as if printing is occuring) then it goes away but the printer never prints. If I open Control Panels and go to Printer, it too breifly shows one document printing for a few seconds, as if it is printing. It is as if the file has been spooled, but the spooler doesn't send the file on to the printer. My desire is to print. My question (hopefully on that road to printing): Is there a print spooler in Windows XP? Any way to monitor it other than control panel printer?
We are facing the problem of spooler service not working and even though started manually it keeps on stopping automatically all of our pc's with windows xp in the network. Can anybody please provide a solution to this problem?
When I try and open a printer I get the error message "operation could not be completed, print spooler service is not running."I've looked round the forums and tried some things. I can get the spooler service to start by starting it under admin tools, and also by typing 'net start spooler' in the command prompt. It starts up, and for a few seconds it runs and I can access my printer, but within half a minute is stops running again, and I'm back to where I was. So I am unable to print at all.
In the printer and faxes window there are printer icons listed in addition to my default HP Printer. Whiy are they listed there and what do they do since you can't use them...or can you and if so, how? Two that are listed on my computer are:
I bought a new HP printer today. I had a hotfix installed at some point that shutdown and woke up my printer at shutdown and startup. The new printer isn't affected by this hotfix. Does anyone know where I can get this patch?
Two custom PCs with XP Pro at same SP level. PC1 sees printer through switch. PC2 can not see printer. PC2 connects and sees printer when I cable the USB DIRECTLY to the printer instead of going thru a switch. Therefore, I know PC2 can print. Have tried 2 different switches. An A/B data switch and Belkin's 4x1 USB Peripheral Switch F1U401. PC1 works with both switches but PC2 does not.
My printer won't work and when I try to diagnose the situation I get message that says, "Windows cannot open Help and Supprt because a system service is not running. To fix this problem, start the service named 'Help and Support'". How do I do this?
We've had to change our address space and therefore the printer address has changed. I've changed the address on all but one computer. On this particular computer when I try to edit the TCP/IP port I get the message:
"An error occurred during port configuration. Access is denied."
If I try to create a new port I can select that I want it to be a Standard TCP/IP Port and then it tells me:
"Specified port cannot be added. Access is denied."
I have connected 3 new PC's on a P2P network, and connected a HP 4610 Color Laser Printer via a JetDirect 175 print server. On one PC, I can only print from the Administrator account. The other 2 computers work fine. On the one that is having issues, when printing a test page I receive a "Failed to Print" error mesage, and looking in the printer jobs menu, it shows that there was an error printing. The Administrator account can print fine from this machine.
The user accounts are "restricted user" accounts on all 3 computers. All 3 computers are exactly the same type, and all have the latest updates.
Print spooler stopped. Tried to correct it by going to Start>Run>services.msc>Print Spooler.. startup type set to Automatic>Service Status set to Stopped>pressed START and got error message as follows, Error 1068 The dependancy service or group failed to start.Windows XP sp2, 512 ram. Trying to install Lexmark x3450 printer but can not change setting on print spooler to start.
WIN XP SP1 with a brother mfc attached. has been operating normally, now suddenly cannot print, or do anything other than view installed printers in control panel-printers. Message box says 'print spooler is not installed'.Can i reinstall the print server without a full WIN XP install?
I have a Gateway PC. I have a Lexmark 7170 printer. When I try to add a printer, I get a message that says the printer spooler service is not running. I tried run->services.msc, selecting printer spooler, and setting startup type to automatic. I then selected dependencies, and got a message that says this service depends on the following: LexBce Server, Remote Procedure Call. What else can I try? I should say that I just had work done on my PC and the Computer Repair Place left it like this.
Im running Windows XP and my HP printer has stopped working. I get an error message regarding the print spooler not working. I go to the 'PRINTERS" folder and it shows that the re is no printer installed. Im wondering if I did something to cause this. I use the free version of Abexo Registry Cleaner as well as Zoftspy SE (purchased version) which I use daily. I have used Ad aware but I've deleted it. A short time ago I did have a Trojan (ad installer?) but my NAV deleted it. I still get messages from NAV that attempts to hijack were blocked by the NAV firewall. Also, the System restore wont work, whether I turn it off and restart it not at all.
At start of each session first doc from any app prints normally 2nd and subsequent docs stall in print queue for 2 to 3 minutes. Have gone through HP who suggest that problem is with spooler. Can't find any updates on MS sites.
I am running XP and have been for some time with no problems, recently my printer began playing up (saying that it wasn't able to communicate) that problem seemed to go away after a while. Since then my computer has been 'getting stuck' after it prints a document. It would print the first document but then nothing after that, i found that the print spooler was showing that the just printed job was marked in status as being deleted... however it would go away and nothing else would get printed. i played around with active processes and found that I could delete the 'deleting' process and get the printing going again.
I have an old dos app that needs to print to a hp laser 2300 have setup "net use lpt1: \computernamepname /persistant:yes changed bios settings to parllel mode to epp,ecc and ps2 setup share on printer and checked spelling type "net use" shows lpt1 -> ok turned bidirectional printing on and off tried to print directly to printer turn spooler off. deleted all printers and drivers and reinstalled from HP
prints fine from all window applications. when you try to print from the dos app with spooler off nothing. when you try to print with spooler on you can see a job go to spooler then a second job will appear and the first will delete this will loop-continue until you cancell all print jobs. after this happens once. Windows applications will not print any longer. Does the same thing as the dos app have to reboot to fix window apps.
I am trying to install a printer, but the Print Spooler service is not active. I have attempted to activate the Print Spooler service every way possible, but always recieve this error! Quote: Could not start the Print Spooler service on Local Computer. Error 12: The access code is invalid.
computer is running at 100% CPU so, you guessed it, very slow. In the processes it shows the spooler.exe using the power alternating with the System(at bottom of list) - but mostly the spooler.exe. The problem really started when he changed an ink cartridge.Does any of this make sense?
My PC (XP SP3) suffered a rough recovery from a malware infection. I.e., certain services (like Print Spooler) no longer run.The malware is gone, but when I go into Computer Management and try to restart the services (like Print Spooler), an error message pops up saying "Cannot start service in Safe Mode"However, it is definitely not in safe mode. So, there must be some internal flag that says otherwise. Restarting XP in safe mode and then in normal mode doesn't un-stick it.
I cannot install any printers nor can I see any in the Printers and Faxes. I can print and they show up under printers to select from programs but because I can't see them, I am having trouble updating programs like Adobe. Adobe fails making a reference to the printers.
