View 12 Repliesmy wife deleted her configuration for her boot loader and now we cant get her windows to load i have put her hard drive on my computer to try and reformat but i just cant get it to boot from disk dont know what im doing wrong we have windows xp i have partition magic on my disk and tried to add windows on her disk using this but it dosent recognize the disk
First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this counts as a hardware or software problem, sorry if I've posted it in the wrong forum.
My parents have an acer laptop, it is about 3 years old, it has a centrino 1.6, 256mb ram, 40GB HD, CDRW and windows XP.
it was working perfectly, and when last used it shut down normally. However on trying to boot it up today it gets to a screen that says load error! "Press any key to reboot"however when pressing a key it just displays the load error message again and seems stuck in a loop.
This happens only a couple of seconds into the boot sequence, the screen immediately before the error screen gives the following information:
Base Memory xxxxx
Extended memory xxxxx
Total memory xxxxxx
Auto detecting IDE device
Primary master xxxxxx
Secondary master
Insyde ACPI bios initialised
At the bottom of the screen it says Press F2 to enter system configuration
If I press F2 at that point I get into the BIOS.
I did not know what to do, I wondered whether Windows had been corrupted so decided to wipe the hard drive and reinstall windows using the recovery CDs supplied with Acer.
After going into the BIOS to change to boot device to the CD drive, the clean reinstall seemed to go well, everything progressed, as normal and every thing seemed to being reinstalled. I was optimistic that all would be well.
However, on rebooting after the reinstall I got the same error message as I had done before. (I had changed the boot device to drive C)
I tried doing a full reinstall again, though of coarse it did not help, and right now I dont have a clue how to progess in trying to solve the problem.
i have a dell dimension e520 with stock everything from dell (P4, 512mb ram) First i had about 70 virus's on the hd, so i removed them when the drive was installed in another machine. So then windows was damaged from the removal, and so i did a clean install (after format), and everything was peachy, (installed windows, ran windows, installed programs etc.) well until i removed the xp installation cd, then it says "boot device not found, press f1 to continue, f2 to reboot". Here is the weird part, when i put the cd back in, reboot, and don't press a key when the " press any key to boot from cd" message comes up it will boot fine. Goes right into windows, etc.In order to reinstall windows, i had to change an option in the bios from raid mode on the sata hd to ATA/autodetect option, because i was getting the bsod 0x0000007b error. The xp cd i used to reinstall was xp sp1 (one of the dell oem ones).I was able to install windows, install all drivers, install sp3 etc.Everything was fine, until i removed the cd and rebooted.I attempted to change the raid option back to original setting in the bios, and reboot- and i got the same message. The bottom line is- everything works fine when i boot with the xp install cd in the cdrom (and do not press a key when it asks to boot from cd). When i boot without the install cd, then acts like there is no os.I have to admit, i have fixed many computers in my day, and this is the first time i have come across this.Could it be something wrong with the sata controller on the motherboard?

It went to the screen that says you can start it in safe mode or normal mode or any of the other ones. But when i choose any mode the little white bar at the bottom of the screen loads, but then it freezes. Or if i choose safe mode it floods my screen with a bunch of command lines then freezes. I need a little help here guys because i am baffled. I know this has happened to me before but i do not remember how to fix it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLet assume that, in a disk we have 3-partition 1. in C: drive Windows 98 (FAT32), we install it first.2. in D: drive Windows 2003 Adv Server (NTFS), this was install 2nd.3. and, E: drive is FAT32, under Windows 98(FAT32)Now, all it works fine as dual boot, we will have menu at startup, there we can select the OS. Right. Now, if we install Windows 2000 Pro in C: Drive by means of format and install option. Windows 2000 is working fine. But we cant able to load Windows 2003 Adv server, when we select that in the boot select menu.

View 10 Replies View RelatedPC was rebooted and this message showed up. I couldn't get to safe mode so I put the XP disc in. I got to the D:winint dir and tried to run bootcfg to scan for the boot file. It came back that it couldn't find it. I was able to see the dir's and data on the 2 drives. I ran chkdsk to see if that would solve the problem, it didn't. Do you think this is a BIOS problem or a missing boot problem. If it was the BIOS would I be able to read the drive. Looking for a fix without destroying everything.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy PC is running absolutely stable (7 hours of orthos). Just bought this EVGA motherboard and swapped it in place of an Asrock motherboard and got everything running, overclocked and stable. Before I got Windows XP running (previous installation from the asrock mobo), I encountered an issue and i isolated it down to one of the 200gb 7200.7 SATA HD's.IF this HD is plugged in when the PC boots, then the Windows XP Boot screen appears and hangs. NOTE: it DOES NOT freeze - the bar still moves, but there is no HD activity and the pc stays like this for hours on end. Note again - this is not a hang. the activity bar still moves from left to right, and it keeps doing this indefinitely it seems (with no HD activity from any drives). IF this HD is not plugged in, the PC boots in straight away. All drivers are tip top (nforce drivers, SATA drivers). However if I hot-plug this drive from within Windows, it works fine!. The PC just doesn't boot with the HD plugged in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer randomly started displaying this error upon start up a week ago and I have no clue what is causing it. I googled it and seen that it could be caused by a linksys wireless router, one was installed on the system before, but has been uninstalled for quite some time now. Can anyone help me correct this or at least help me figure out what is causing it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering what the difference was whether you had a program load at startup (by checking a box within the program to have it load when the computer boots) and unchecking that box but moving a shortcut to the programs executable into the startup folder on the start menu.
Is there any difference?
Does anybody know how to permanently remove this box from my computer?
everytime i click ok to remove the box it re-appears anytime when i use my computer again.
I am unable to boot my PC most of the times.Whenever I switch on my PC,I see the following message nine ot of ten times. DiskError/Boot Faliure Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot media in selected boot device If I press enter after this messages & keep pressing following messages appear from time to time (Not simultaneously). If just after making the switch on, I press F2 key to check the boot device preference
If just after making the switch on , I press f11 key to reach the boot menu I always find the 1.44 MB Floppy option highlighted as the booting choice.(though there had not been any floppy in the floppy drive, I dont have any really)I make the hard disk option highlighted & it solves the problem only a few times. But next time when I try F11 key to check the boot menu again I find 1.44 MB floppy highlighted.
I haven't installed anything new on my computer but today after having my computer shipped to me via UPS I cut on my computer and where the XP load bar screen was I got: "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device".Seeing this I knew I went into the BIOS setup and tried to turn the system priority to look at the HDD. Instead I only had the option of the DVD drive and the CD drive.I have no idea how to solve this problem and don't have any of the recovery CD's. I DO NOT WANT TO REFORMAT because like a bad little boy I did not backup my 4 years worth of work.

After installation I tried to use the CD ROM to install software, and it will not load the disc. When using the tool bar desktop shortcut menu and placing the cursor on the drive when accessed here it always shows empty. It is recognized in the device manager and shows to have no problems. View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fix a computer running WinXP Home Edition. It was infected with several spyware programs and I ended up finding a couple virii as well. I cleaned out everything and have ran about 5 different spyware programs and have clean logs for all of them. The security forum helped me out and they have now referred me here. The problem is that I boot up the computer and takes me to the XP logon screen. I then select the user I want to log-in as and then I'm taken to a blank desktop - no icons, no start menu, right-clicking does nothing, etc... I can run almost any program via ctrl+alt+del and selecting 'New Task'. If I attempt to run explorer.exe the start menu flashes momentarily and then disappears again.I've attempted to do 'sfc /scannow' and also a windows xp repair reinstall but I still have the same problem.

I also use AIM messenger and it will log into my sisters name but not mine, I made another screen name and it still will not sign-in for me. I have ran kaspersky(sp?) in safe mode and nothing came up. I uninstalled that and now how AVG ran that and it found 2 trojans. I deleted those and re-started and still same problems. I have ran spyware and adware programs including spybot. Just went to a proxy site and I can access the sites through that proxy site that I couldn't earlier. So I don't know what the deal is, still need a fix because that was just to check.I'm not going to that proxy site anymore.
