Finding Right Software To Make Image Of Drive C?
Sep 15, 2005
tell me how to make an image (for disaster recovery purposes) on DVDs (not on CDs) using Acronis True Image 8?.I have studied the user's guide and researched on the web, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I have Windows XP Media Center and a brand new HP Pavillion with a LightScribe DVD writer and Nero Ultra 6 (which does have the ability to write UDF DVDs)I need to install many things on my computer so I can get back to work, but first I want to have a good image of Drive C before I do. (I already installed the additional hardware and basic software that I use).

Using Norton Ghost 9 and Acronis TrueImage 11 on Windows XP service pack 3. Disk cacheing is turned off on all drives and external Drive S is set optimized for quick removal.
Windows - Delayed Write Failed Windows was unable to save all the data for the file S:System Volume Information racking.log.tmp. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere. System Restore is turned off on all drives. When I attempt to write an image of 1.5-TB internal drive R onto external USB 1.5-TB drive S, Ghost hangs permanently at 2% with no error message.

I have been searching the internet for an answer to my question and unable to do so. What I want to do is make a bootable backup image that will self install without windows in case of an operating system failure where windows is unavailable. I want to image my C drive and make it so I can boot from CDR or DVDR and have it format the drive and reinstall my backup identical to the original. A long time ago I saw this done with Symantec Ghost on a job I was on but have no idea how to accomplish the task myself. I was wondering if there is perhaps a better software out there now for making a total self restoring image of your haed drive such as this.

I am trying to create a full HD image of my Dell c800 Laptop using Drive Image 7 (circa 2003) to an USB HD. I have tried twice and received failures about my HD having bad sectors OR locked sectors. I ran check disc with repair and did not find any problems. Re-ran check disc from the boot disc that came with the application and found no problems with the disc. Tried again for a backup and received the same error. I am thinking it is one of the programs I have loaded has a locked sector or one of my processes that loads during boot is the problem?

I tried to install my old Nero w/full lic key but it wouldn't.
Giving up the idea... I proceeded to remove every file with Ahead Or Nero in it. Used jv 16 Power tools to remove left overs. Nothing now shows in jv16 or search of all files & folders (with hidden & system showing). Ran CCleaner including other MRUs etc.

I had some bad sectors on an IBM thinkpad. The computer was booting just fine. I used ghost32 to ghost the drive (not just the partition) to an image and then back onto a brand new drive. Now I cannot get the new drive to boot. The partition is setup just like before and is active but once I get past the IBM bios screen it just doesn't do anything. If I put the old drive in it works fine.

I am trying to replace a failinf IDE drive with a SATA replacement. How do I make it bootable? I am using an ABIT VA-10 mobo, Win XP SP3, 1.5 GB DDR333 Ram, and a mix n' match collection of IDE and SATA HDD's?
I cannot seem to get the mobo to recognize the SATA which is plugged into the primary IDE slot via a Silicon Graphics 680 adapter board. This of course fouls up my ability to boot from a CDROM drive as my secondary IDE port is supporting the original WD IDE drive and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA drive. At one point I was able to boot from either the primary master or the 2nd master. I have fiddled with XXclone and cannot seem to get the machine to recognize the Sata drive any more.

I recently got a new computer with windows XP and I want to make a backup copy of my hard drive. I've been using win 98se in the past and always backed up my drive using the "Drive Copy" software and that always worked just fine. I tried using it to copy my new Win XP drive and found that it has a different format called NTFS. My Drive Copy doesn't seem to work with the new drive. Any suggestions? Do I need to reformat the new blank drive I want to copy to?

I bought a laptop and burned 4 recovery CDs for recovery purpose. Instead of burning as disc images, I just copied and pasted these 4 CDs to my USB HDD as 4 folders called "RecoveryCD 1", "RecoveryCD 2", "RecoveryCD 3" and "RecoveryCD 4". Now my laptop got problem and I lost my 4 recovery CDs. All I have now is 4 recovery folders in my USB HDD. I burned another 4 CDs as data disc from my USB HDD, but it didn't work out (it didn't boot because they are just data discs). I again burned my first recovery CD as a bootable CD, and it booted but didn't automatically install XP, drivers and other softwares. It just appeared some sentences on a black screen and cursor is waiting for me to type after the text, "A:>".

I have Windows XP Pro, sp3. When I got my first external hard drive (HD), I thought it would be a hassle to get windows to see it but it was very easy. I just plugged it in, via USB, and it put a drive letter in Windows Explorer (WE) and I could access it like any other drive. It was easy. My question is: if I get another external HD, can I use it along with my current external HD? That is, can I use the new external HD without unplugging my present external HD.
