Error On Checking License

Feb 4, 2007

One of my computers has an error message that comes up that tells me that a problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer Now my desktop icons do not appear on the screen and I cannot use the computer.I think it has something to do with a virus but I'm not sure. What can I do? I've tried using my Windows Home Edition CD to reformat but it appears that the computer is not reading the CD so I can't do a reformat. It allows me to go into safe mode but I can't get access to any of my files and I can't do a system restore while in safe mode.

Preventing From Accurately Checking The License For This Computer

Jan 9, 2009

I am having a problem logging onto my Windows XP system. I am getting the error "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0X80070002". I have found from several sources that I needed to regsvr32 files in order to make it work.

Error Checking On HD ...

Aug 9, 2005

my computer was running slow so I thought that if I ran the error-check and automatically fix options I might work better. I checked both boxes and clicked start and it said that id would check and fix the errors the next time I'd restart my computer. Now everytime I turn on my computer it aks me which OS I wanna run (Windows xp home or windows xp home (bootscreen)). I want this to stop, as it really annoys me to wait some extra time every time I turn my computer on, I already tried to uncheck the boxes (Local drive C: Tools) but they were already unchecked. The OS question continues to occur whenever I restart or turn the computer on. How do I fix this?

Boot Up - The Error Checking Program

Apr 19, 2006

I set Windows to check my main hard drive for errors on my Dell E310 the next time it boots, so I shut it down and then rebooted. It started to load Windows, but after the loading bar went through 2 and a half passes, it just stopped. I figured this was normal for the error-checking program, but I left it for a couple of hours and came back. It still hadn't started, so I shut it down and booted to safe mode and did a system restore back to the beginning of yesterday. Right now I have it booting again and it stopped at the same spot.

Won't Install - Error- Checking Hardware Configuration

Jan 6, 2005

When I want to install Windows XP from cd it says "Checking hardware configuration" and then it goes blank. Computer keeps on running, just nothing on the screen. No versions work, with/without sp1/sp2. I tried upgrading, tried bootdisks, nothing helped. I reflashed bios, doesn't help. And the weird this is it is only on Windows XP, Win2K pro installs just fine and so does Gentoo and Slackware.I believe the problems started to occur when I put in 2 new disks, 2x200gb Maxtor Diamond Max 10 (S-ata). I don't think they are the problem.

Checking Filesystem On C

Aug 22, 2007

1) Built a new computer in Oct/Nov 2006. Had been "out of the loop" in terms of computer know how, as the computer I was using at the time was going on about 6 or 7 years old. Originally I had a problem and couldn't get the computer to POST or start up, but it was because I purchased Brand X memory that wasn't "compatible" or recommended with the MOBO (never heard of a situation like this before. Always though Ram was Ram was Ram... learned my lesson.)

2) Computer runs like a dream for about 7 months. It is now around late May/June 2007. I turn the computer on and sit down on the chair and start to get comfortable. To my horror the computer enters this strange "safe mode" blue colored screen and is running some sort of check. It goes by real quick and I don't have time to read it. The computer goes past it and does not load and begins a reboot cycle.

3) Fastfoward a month and three or four full formats of the Hdd and reloads of WinXP. After each load the computer would work for a random amount of time then the same problem would occur. Repairing WinXP did nothing. Eventually I went to format the Hdd again and I started getting messages saying the formatting could not complete and the hdd could not be accessed. Figured it was a bad hdd, got it RMA'd and in the mean time purchased another one.

4) July 2007. Load new hdd into case, load WinXP. Computer runs like a dream. I love it. Runs Bf2142 flawlessly with all graphics on high... blah blah whatever the kids say these days to brag about how fast their computers are.

5) August 21st, 2007 around 11:30pm. I get home from my night shift job. Plop down and fire up the computer. The past three or four times I've started up the computer it has loaded.... "oddly". Basically the Windows load screen (blue scrolly bar, is that the technical term for it? ) would come up and then a blank screen would be up for an extended period of time (30, 40 seconds maybe? Long enough to notice. Short enough that if thats all thats going to happen I can live with it). But this time no... I get that blue "Safe Mode" looking screen. This time its slower and I can write down whats on it. Here is what it said:

Description: A dark blue banner with a safe mode looking WinXP logo with the the Windows Logo (you know, the actual WINDOW) all in the color white. Below this banner area some text:

Checking Filesystem on C:

CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)

- File Verification (1 or 3)
- Index Verification (2 of 3)
- Security Verification (3 of 3)

and then when those three were complete it spewed a bunch of text real quick and the screen flashed (so I could not only A read it or B even look at it really), the computer reboots and loads, albeit with that slow, lagged black screen between Blue Scrolly and Desktop.

Obviously there must be a deeper problem with the computer if this is happening again with a second, completely unique hdd. There is no way I am getting two "bad" hdd... i mean, I've never really even gotten one before ever. Does anyone have any possible insight as to what could be going on here? Please help

Computer Info:
Operating System: Win XP - SP2
Processor: Core 2 Duo 6300
MoBo: ASUS P5b-E
RAM: 1Gig Kingston Ram in dual channel mode
Video: Nvidia GF 7600

Is there a way for me to run any report that will tell me what applications are using what COM ports, or how to make a COM port available.
any suggestion?

Checking FSB Speed

Feb 24, 2005

Is there a way in XP, or in BIOS on a computer running XP, to check the actual FSB speed? Is it indicated in BIOS? I have a vague memory of checking it once but I can't remember if I checked it on the machine or just read the number in the manual.

If BIOS, or another source on the machine, tells you an FSB speed, is that the actual current clocked speed, or is that some kind of factory standard number that the MoBo provides as a spec?

I'm having some confusion as to what my actual FSB speed is. The manual says it's 400 on some Dimension 2400 machines but 266 on mine, but I swear I read XP or BIOS telling me it was 400. If there's a way to check directly I'd like to do that.

Checking For Downloaded Programs

Jan 8, 2006

I recently downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver; a 30-day trial. I worked on it a little, then left it alone for a couple of days. Now, when i try to find it, I can't. Searches turn up file folders of several types, but nothing that will allow me to run the program.

Where is it???!!! Why won't a search turn up something...an .EXE file or whatever, that will allow me to access the program. It's hiding somewhere and I can't figure out how to find it. it's far from the thirty days...maybe 10, if that.

Trying to download it again from the site doesn't work; they say that my email is already in use, so they are preventing me from downloading it again. I know I can try to contact them next week, but does anybody have a clue on this?

Use Old License On New Pc?

May 3, 2006

I know that may seem like a relatively obvious question however I was hoping to flush out some details from people with more experience than I possess.I was told that if you have a retail copy of XP pro, if you stop using old machine and buy a new 1 then you can transfer your license across. I however purchased an OEM copy of XP pro about 4 years for my old laptop. I have not used it in a few years and was hoping that if I make a new computer I can use my old key. I am pretty sure when I try to activate it that it will say the key is no good and to call their help number but what details are stored on their system? If I say that I have simply formatted my old machine and are doing a new install will I then be able to use the code they give me for my new machine or is the code somehow 'locked' to the CPU number or something? If any1 has any experience migrating a license across then please advise me. I do not wish to use a pirated copy and will buy a new license if needed but hope that it is not neccesary since I paid for this license and I am happy to format my old machine and not use it again.
