Mar 12, 2010Since 10 days ago, every time I log on to Windows XP (Pro, SP3), I get an error message: "Windows cannot open file 6beff9.rbf. Find suitable program." I would like to delete it to remove this message. Google says it is a type of temporary backup file saved in Config.Sys folder. But I can find neither the file nor such folder using search on my computer (including system, hidden files/folders). How do I get rid of it?

Jun 22, 2005A week after updating to most current Windows SP1critical updates (its only change I can think of) I happen to notice that I cannot run a disk error check, I am told that its a NTFS file system and Win cannot open volume for check. Also when I start computer I have to log on with my password every. I have tried to eliminate the password requirement to no avail. I cannot return to pre-update status with System Restore because its been a week and there is too much new data in the system. This is a free standing desktop PC. Can anyone help with these two things? I hope so as I do my error check regularly and find it frustrating to have to log on every time I restart .

May 26, 2010I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

Dec 22, 2006Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Aug 4, 2005Tonight I tried opening a chm file and it failed, with that error message. This happens for any chm file I have tried. I don't know when this broke, I know I used to be able to open chm files with no trouble but I can't pinpoint the last time it worked.I've searched around and found some references to this, but no solution -the only relevant MSKB is for Win98. I tried regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx, deleting the hh.dat files, clearing IE's file cache; nothing has helped. I haven't made any significant recent changed to the system that I can think of.

I am not sure how far the direcroty goes, but I have counted to at least 26 directories deep. I cannot delete the parent folder in either explorer, or from the prompt. At the prompt I have tried RD foldername and it says, "Folder not empty". Tried del foldername*.* with no error and still cannot delete it.

All of the other jpg's will not view.They will not view in thumbnails, in Firefox, in Paintshop Pro, In Windows Office Picture Manager, in Freshview or in Paint.Can somebody please help, these are cherished photos. The file sizes seem to be the same as ever. Every Downloaded File Gets CRC Error (Corrupted File)?

Everytime I try to download a file it is corrupt.For instance, I tried downloading a movie clip off rapidshare and although its only 3 files and 300MB, it always came as CRC error check failed. I tried downloading it from multiple servers of rapidshare but had no success. I also tried downloading other files yet I am having no success downloading anything.

Dec 5, 2007After suffering months of freezing PC and blue screens (primarily the dreaded kernel stack error. I have done tried all the recovery tricks from here and MS website, done chkdsk /f & /r repeatedly over four days without using the PC in between, and all the other stuff from here and Microsoft. Bought an expensive Reg cleaner and run it repeatedly. No luck. No recently installed soft or hardware. New Dell desktop. 1 year of trouble-free life until this. I now boot from the recovery XP CD (it includes SP2) to try to reformat the whole shebang and it gets as far as loading setup files OK, then as usual tries to start load windows installation and ... blue screen. STOP error 0x0000007B (OXF78D2524 OXC0000034, OX00000000, OX00000000).
Decided to buy a new HDD and install XP on that. (3 weeks from Dell!) and in machine. Old one disconnected. Tried installing XP from disk. It stalls at exactly the same moment as before (loads up preliminary files, gets to ""starting Windows" and then the dreaded blue screen with the same error message as before. 0X0000007B (OXF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). So presumably not HD (although always good to have one). Have downloaded Memtest and run it for 24 hours. No RAM errors reported.

Earlier this was fine.(.iff is a picture file like jpeg) But now when I right click & browse for this fcheck programme(after right click) windows is unable to open that file.But I can open that file this way, after first opening fcheck and then from file>open. How can I set this to open this particular file by double clicking?(fcheck can open any image file e.g jpeg,tiff,bmp etc).

I am receiving an error message which states that a file is open and that I should close all applications ect. I have nothing running that I can see. The error says that "C:windowsapppatchdrvmain.sdb is open or application is running. I have tried to delete and replace the file with another copy located in an other subdriectory. When I double click on the problem file I get message that I can't open it. However, when I click on the copy in another folder I get a different message. When I try to delete or copy it the message is sdb files can not be copied or deleted. It seems that I must have something going wrong. I do notice when my computer is idle, it isn't. The harddrive goes crazy and when I check the preformace area in the task manager it shows high usage.

Create an association in the folder options control panel". Except that when I go there, there IS a program associated with the particular file type. Example: .jpg files, I have Microsoft photo editor, Paint Shop Pro 7, and Picassa, installed. I used to be able to RIGHT click on a .jpg file, and then go to "open with" and it would give me a list of installed programs to choose from. NOW I get the above error. Now, I DO use a registry cleaner, could I have damaged something? and how do I get it back?

Getting this error when trying to install Service Pack 4 - The file c:windowssystem32ftp.exe is open or in use by another application. The taskmanager does not show any FTP specifically running. So I downloaded SP4 to my hard drive so I wouldn't have to get on the internet, and rebooted in safe mode. Then ran SP4 update from my hard drive but I still got the same FTP error. How do I find this FTP process and stop it?
