I downgraded my Toshiba L355D-S7815 to XP. I decide to install drivers for the model but I've run into some difficult situations. As I reinstalled, I read the manual for it and I needed a driver for the "AMD M780G chipset". So I browse the AMD website and I find no luck, nor do I find any luck finding the ATI Radeon HD 3100 driver. I call up ATI and AMD and they tell me they don't have the drivers for it, but I've done some research and saw similar drivers for it, but wouldn't work on my laptop. I'm fed up with searching all day because it gave me a headache that now I want to switch back to Vista.
There's a hidden partition that Toshiba put in the HDD that will restore it, but the laptop gave me no recovery cd. I was wondering, is there anyway to access this hidden partition and reinstall Vista

Computer boots to blue screen after showing Windows splash screen and then immediately restarts. Windows Stop code 0X0000007E (0X80000003, 0X805C370C, 0XBACCB2B4, 0XBACCAFB0). Computer will not boot in safe mode or last known good configuration. I have decided that I will need to reload windows but have several very important files on hard drive that I need to get off first. As it stands, I have 2.5" drive loaded into external hard drive enclosure. Only problem is that 2.5" drive has drive letter of C: like every other computer I have in my house. Is there anyway to change this letter to view files via usb enclosure? Any way to change drive path of C: volume on any other computer?

So, a friend is looking to get a new laptop with a 17" display. I found this Toshiba Satellite model at BestBuy for $699: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1212192350169It comes with Windows Vista pre-installed. I went to the Toshiba support page for the laptop and found only ONE Windows XP driver and that's for the built-in modem. The bulk of the drivers are for Vista. What would the chances of actually getting Windows XP to fully function on this laptop? Where would I go for XP drivers for things like the ATI video adapter, the network adapters (Wi-Fi and Ethernet), and so on?

I am running a windows XP system. The other day I was uninstalling a piece of software that I had downloaded and wasn't paying attention as I clicked through the prompts and inadvertantly uninstalled it and the sounds for my computer. Is there a way to reverse my blunder and return this computer to its beeping and whirring glory. The computer is my landlords and he is being very restrained in his reaction to my inattentiveness.

I am running windows xp pro edition. When I switch on my pc it loads the icons, then for a split second my desktop background flashes and then turnes blue. This is also repeated when I shut down the puter. When I right click, and click on properties, I then click on desktop and you can only select a color as your background? The browse button is frozen, the scroll bar is frozen as well. They are a tanish color and unclickable. Can someone please help me change my background back to an image? I have been using "Webshots desktop" for years and have never had any problems.

Got a system I'm looking at for someone I know. They have a file extension issue that I'm not familiar with. Here's what it is and what they think they did to get it that way.Currently all but a couple their shortcuts on the desktop have a .lnk extension attached to them. If you try to double click the shortcut to open the program windows tells you that it can't open the file and askes you what program to use. Here's what they were doing when they noticed this problem. They went into Windows Explorer and accessed the "tools" menu. From there they went to "folder options" and selected the "file types" tab. They clicked to create a new file extension, entered "lnk" for the extension and clicked "ok" Then they selected the new extension from the list and clicked the "advanced" option. In the resulting window they unchecked the "confirm open after download" option and clicked "ok". After going through this sequence they noticed that all of their shortcuts had been modified with this extension. Also now if you create a new shortcut it is automatically given this file extension. They tried going back to the folder options and removing the extension but that hasn't helped the problem any. Changing the name of the shortcut back to the original format doesn't help either. The system is currently running Windows XP with service pack 1.

I'm trying to fix my friend's computer. He has an acer laptop running windows xp professional. He said he got a virus and it shut down. When he started it back up it got as far as the windows xp loading screen. This is where it is stuck. It just keeps loading and keeps loading. He left it on for a few hours and it did nothing. We have restarted it like 20 times and still nothing. It won't let me boot to the virus cd i have (malewarebytes virus cd). I changed the boot order and still nothing. I have also tried all the options (None of these options worked eirther) ...
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (Your most Recent Settings That worked)
Start Windows Normally
At the top of the screen it says "We Apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Know Good Configuration to revert to the most recent setting that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally."
I also tried all the advanced boot options and nothing worked. It doesn't even give me the option to boot to the cd. It's not showning up that there is a cd.
How can i solve this?

I frequently see computer advertisements with the Vista OS and there is an option to downgrade to WXP. Why would anyone want to downgrade when XP will eventually be phased out and Windows 7 is on the horizon Years ago I bought a new computer with W98SE and within months WXP was on the market. A short time later W98 wasn't supported any longer. I know some individuals don't like Vista but isn't it just a matter of time when XP won't be supported by Microsoft I am an XP user and will soon be in the market for a new computer so haven't had the opportunity to try Vista
