I use my PC mainly for e-mail, interent, and Microsoft Office no serious gaming or video usage. Someone recommended a registry cleaner to boost performance. Do they work? The particular one mentioned to me was Advanced Registry Optimized 5.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a windows xp home edition sp2, with 2 Intel Pentium processors? I've try'd deleting startup programs, and i unleashed dozens of registry cleaners bud that makes no noticeable difference.This happens when i'm booting up;
- packard bell logo ( few seconds )
- windows loading bar (+-10 seconds)
At all the other forums where I've volunteered, they treat ALL registry cleaners, reputable or not, as poison, if used by non-techies. At the very least they're considered a waste of time, as they don't really speed things up. If using CCLeaner, many techies say to use all the features except the registry cleaner part.I'd like to hear what other professionals here think. Don't even bother discussing the sleazy ones.

A friend of mine in a craft site created a document in WORKS. There were problems for others on that site opening it that have WORD and not WORKS.

I want to backup my Autocomplete User Names and Passwords, Web Addresses, and Forms entries in the registry. What are the registry addresses for these items?
I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

I am about to get rid of norton system works and would like to knowabout some alternatives.I have been using norton systemworks for years and also use AVG as asecondary virus checker.I have sourced some alternatives for most of the utilities i.e zone alarm, may try avast (instead of AVG), regclean.But what I will miss is the 'one button checkup' from norton that scans your system and detects any probs before fixing them. Is there any other free program that do this?If anyone has any other suggestions as to what alternatives to use (preferably free!) instead of Norton System works.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've installed Windows XP SP2 Fresh after I had some other hardware problems. Everything seemed to work fine until I managed to get into Windows. The OS refuses to read ANY dvd/cd that I put inside. If instead, I boot to Safe-Mode, the DVD-RW works fine. Of course I tried to switch the DVD-RW with another one but the results were the same.

I changed the computer which is running Windows 2000 server from a domain to a work group and then rebooted. When it came back up The password to get into windows was no longer recognized.Can I reinstall windows 2000 without losing files and still get back into windows?I have already done the F8 thing, It seems to be booting fine. It's just when you get to the login screen it won't accept the password.

When I put in a DVD it automatically opened Power DVD. When I plugged in my MP3 player it automatically opened its associated software. Now, nothing seems to auto start.

For some info that may help u, I dont have a headset mic. Just one that sits on your desktop. Its definatly plugged in, I have SP2 for XP Pro.I previously had Windos ME where my mic worked fine. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure exactly what brought this on since this is a nearly fresh install of windows, but I have had a problem accessing any web content with internet explorer except for the web itself (thanks to firefox). This means, Help files, Windows update, web forms, and many other features are completely unusable. Whenever I acess any kind of content through IE or it's engine embedded in windows, instead of displaying the HTML I am prompted to download it (open/save dialogged) this is a serious problem and I dont want to re-install windows yet again but it looks like I might have to if things keep going this way.. any help? I havnt been able to find a single mention of this problem on google

When i go in services.msc in start>run i try to start the process for automatic updates and it won't let me. I go to manual, click start, and it says 'could not start automatic update service on local computer. Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it'. Now when I go to auto updates in control panel, it is set on automatic, however it doesn't do it.
View 11 Replies View RelatedAbout 5 hours ago my pc crashed, since rebooting my usb keyboard no longer works when it reaches windows login. I'm completely lost with this and it's infuriating me.
- I'm running windows xp
- Never had this issue before with keyboard, it's always worked until 5 hours ago
- There is no fault with the keyboard, I've tried in on 2 other systems and it works fine
- There's no problems with the USB ports all other usb devices work and work on all the ports.
- The mouse as well as all other usb devices work fine
- I've uninstalled the keyboard several times and reinstalled with no luck
The keyboard is a generic dell one using a dell system.
- The device manager doesn't report any issues. The keyboard is listed as installed and working properly.
- The keyboard does work in BIOS just not in windows
The only way i can get into windows is to use remote desktop from another pc so i can use another systems keyboard to control this pc which is what im doing now.Having endlessly searched for a solution, nothing has worked. There was a registry fix but it hasn't worked. One thing I thought may have caused it was before I had made a registry change to IRPStackSize to try to resolve a network issue. I reverted this change back and still no response from keyboard.
