I'm constantly annoyed by the windows log-in (welcome) screen. I am the sole user, and there are no other accounts, yet i always need to click 'owner'. I know you can disable this somehow, because i have on my other computer (i forget though).I would like to remove this screen all together.

I even tried disabling the welcome screen, and I still get asked to login first.
I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
And no, I do not have a password enabled on the account.

I did some changes unintentionally and now my PC won't display anything after windows logo.After that the system asked me to reboot so I clicked OK.From that on my PC can boot and display windows logo but after that everything turn black.My PC is a DELL desktop run on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1, how to set that back?I tried safe mode, Last Know Good, and the like but it just end up in black screen.

Getting the blue screen occasionally when I start NetZero's free dial-up program. The blue screen will appear right as the PC is trying to open up a Internet Explorer window, after the dial-up connection has been made successfully. The blue screen states to disable BIOS, but I don't have a clue how to do that
I want to get rid of whatever is causing my computer to act like it's firewalled.I'm currently studying in Japan and have ADSL in the dorms. It seemed to be firewalled, but no one else I asked really knew much about it, so I just kind of accepted it and moved on. But recently one of my friends in Tokyo has gotten a new internet connection, which her computer works perfectly on and gets amazing speed. But when I connect, it still seems I am firewalled. At that point, I do not even have to enter a password, I just click "ok" and it starts up. But the extra steps are a pain. My computer just recently started doing this. How can I turn off or disable this "log on" stuff? I've tried dinking around at Control Panel>User Accounts, but I do not seem to be able to resolve the problem.
Every time when I turn off my computer, the machine shows "Now is safe to turn or your computer" message. I know there is a way to disable this but just don't know how. I do some search on this website, and found out we can have this fix by enabling the Advanced Power Management Support at Control Panel. However, my computer doesn't have the APM option under the Power Option. I have W2K install on this machine. I did fix this problem before by editing the registry but just forget how to do it.

It gets to the windows logo and crashes, a quick flash of a bluescreen which i can't see the error, and restarts. I also do not have the option to disable the restart so i can see this code too.I booted the windows recovery and at the DOS prompt i tried doing chckdsk, fixboot, fixmbr.

I was playing a game and I rebooted my computer. When i went to start it it went to the a blank blue screen before the account screen in the beginning of XP. I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system. View 2 Replies View Relatedmy computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect.So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
I woke up to a pastel colors on my screen. My hubby was the last on it last night and I don't think anything happened.I am not for sure if my screen is going bad or what..Any help is appreciated..I have a screen shot

It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.

It appears to install and the Fax even appears in Printers and Faxes for about 1 second, then vanishes.Has anyone else experienced this?More info:There is an Epson Stylus DX9400F all-in-one installed. I have found the dialogue box where additional events can be added to the sounds but I cannot see how to turn off the ones already there. I do not want to use "mute all" on the volume control as I frequently listen to music.
Any suggestions welcome.
While in that area of the screen, I want to remove some of the icons. The dialogue box is set to "always hide" the offending Icons but they are still showing.

When I log into the laptop itself, the wireless connection icon in the bottom right shows "acquireing network address" for a second, finds it, and then the laptop is on the network again. I'm assuming that when I do RDC into the laptop and the desktop takes over, the network adapter on the laptop thinks it's time to sleep or disable, and drops off the lan. I confirmed this by doing a ping fromthe desktop to the laptop. Before RDC, no problem. After the RDC connection hands, I can't ping the laptop anymore. Once I log into the laptop itself, I can ping the laptop from the desktop
Lots of schools need to run one desktop for all users. Not a standard default user template. But to actually disable user profiles like you could in windows 98. With 2600 users xp takes to long to login when it has to create a profile each time because we use a security program that freezes the desktop and dismisses any changes to the c: once rebooted.Does anyone know of a way to disable user profiles or assign a profile where

Running XP on a HP/Compaq NC6000. Had a page from HP site bookmarked that told what registry key to modify. HP has removed the thread, can't find the answer elsewhere. Ideas appreciated. I've seen posts for other models directing user to enter BIOS to change but unable to get into it. The registry key modification worked earlier.
