View 6 Replies View RelatedChecking computer for a friend. It is a Pentium 4 2.80GHz running windows xp, bios ver. A01, 512MB memory. They called Dell and were told to take it to a technician, which I am not, and they cannot afford it.When turned on it showed the Dell logo and then asked for a password which they had no idea what it was. It would not do anything at all. After doing a lot of reading on this forum and others I decided to remove the password by changing the jumper on the motherboard that said ctr password for,30 seconds, and then putting it back in place and start the computer again. It then booted to a screen that said " We appologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. After some more explaining of possible causes it had the options of starting in, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode with Networking, Last known good configeration, Start Windows normally. Use the up and down arrows to highlight your choice. When I do highlight any one of the choices and hit enter the computer stops responding at all.
I can now get in and check the system info etc. It showed no password. It also shows no cdrom installed and it has a cdrom and dvd. It only shows the hard drive and floppy drive. The hard drive is a Segate Barracuda 7200.7 80 Gbytes.I ran the diagnostics that are on the computer and everything checked out except the Read Test on the hard drive. It said IDE Disk Error Code 0F00.0244 Msg Block 77765935. Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.I then tried to run a virus check from Fix-It Utilities on floppy. After the second disc it stopped and said it was unable to read drive c to restore boot area.Did I do something to the hard drive by removing the password and is there any way to check the hard drive for a virus? I don't understand why Dell told them to take it to a tech.
Very similar to the following problem but i do not have a raid, and it seems that this PC has a raid and i don't, plus it was never really determined what the actual solution was.

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
When i turn on,first Windows screen appears, then a blue screen blinks, then hp screen, then a blank page with cursor on the top left, then a screen with the message"we apologise for the inconvinience but Windows did not start successfully.there was a hardware or software problem.I tried to run it in Safe mode, Windows normally, last known configuration but no luck......Then someone suggested to Get into the Recovery Console by making a Recovery CD with ISO image but the machine is not responding to any of it.Is it with CD/DVD ROM drive or any major hardware problem???...I ran a self hard drive test and it seemed fine

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...o-startup.html
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...p-problem.html
but recommended solutions didn't help so far.
symptoms just before issue - was not able to run use some system features - utility to turn off the display, utility to bring up battery info - everything was working fine before this

View 8 Replies View RelatedA few of our DNS servers are reporting Event ID 3000 periodically. Full logging is on. There are no failure entries prior to the event. I can not find much on TechNet either. I see that this is a problem for others in other forums, but I could not find a resolution on any site. Anyone have a cause and resolution? Details of the error entry:
Event Type:Warning
Event Source:DNS
Event Category:None
Event ID:3000
Date:3/13/2006
Time:6:21:05 AM
User:N/A
Computer:domain controller (changed name)
Description:
The DNS server has encountered numerous run-time events. To determine the initial cause of these run-time events, examine the DNS server event log entries that precede this event. To prevent the DNS server from filling the event log too quickly, subsequent events with Event IDs higher than 3000 will be suppressed until events are no longer being generated at a high rate.
I have a Dell Latitude D400 laptop. After reloading windows I get the Windows startup screen and then I just get a black screen...Windows will not come up. Anyone know what I can do?? I get the mouse and can move it around but no windows screen. I have done the diagnoics test and found a DST Short Test failed with code 1000-0146 is this why Windows will not load? Is my harddrive bad you think? It reloads Windows fine but Windows will not come up after install? Again all I get is a black screen with the mouse to move around.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSearched the web on this one - most people seem to have encountered similar issues - tried their resolutions but to no avail. Problem is: when installing XP pro it comes to 34min device installing mark and then reboots. (WIN2k installs ok)
1/ disabaling all non-essential internal/external devices (ie switch off BIOS in BIOS / unplug).
2/ slipstream SP1a
3/ slipstram SP2
4/ Upgrade from Windows 9x
5/ Upgraqde from Win2k.
6/ Changing video card
The only thing I havent tried and am doing now is checking BIOS upgrade.
MS Wireless mouse 5000 with MS Bluetooth dongle. I bought the set to install on my desktop eMachine, XP w/SP3. The idiotic instructions only showed inserting the batteries into the KB and mouse and then inserting the BT transceiver into a USB port. Nothing. And the KB and mouse don't have buttons on the bottom. The worst thing is that all the MS articles I've read reference the "Bluetooth Devices" icon in the control panel.
When I bring up the CP, there is no BT icon there. I've done the command line "btprops.cpl" and nothing happens. I've turned the PC off, booted back again, and no plug and play detection of the BT dongle. When I go into the Device Manager, and check the properties of both the KB and mouse, both say they are installed and working properly! The KB and mouse set came with an installation CD and that was it. No freaking user manual and I can't find one on the CD.
I just want to start over. I burned all my pics and saved what I needed. I would like to give this to my hubby for him to use for his digital camera. How do I make it back to orignal. I have the OS cd and the app recovery cd. When I try to reformat it asks for a earlier date of which I dont have!

View 2 Replies View RelatedThere are 2 accounts in my XP Pro SP2 machine, one has admin rights, the other is limited. When I log into the limited account then log off, Windows does not return me to the welcome/login screen, instead it gives me a blank screen (my monitor, which uses DVI, gives me "No signal"). Pressing any key will not wake the computer. The only resort is to press the Reset button. I expect this to be either software or hardware incompatibility.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRandomly I will get a blank white screen, or a white screen with vertical lines. When this happens the only thing I can do is turn the computer off. It has always rebooted successfully and no data has been lost, however it is a great annoyance. I have looked in the event viewer and don't find anything unusual.

But when I click to empty the recylce bin I get the delete confirmation "are you sure you want to delete these 83 items?" If I click yes, the little empty sound plays, but if I empty the bin again I get the exact same delete message. Why can't I see these files and why can't I delete them? Running windows xp with sp2.

This happens whether I am or not logged onto the internet.I am using NVIDEA (whatever that is) and it says it is working properly. I also have a registry cleaner so clear the caches and temp internet files regularly and defray monthly.I have been logged on for 15 mins now and it hasn't (so far) happened but some hours ago it was happening every couple of mins. Could it be some other cache that fills up and causes this?

Very minimal system); I've tried setup by booting from the CD, booting from floppies, xcopying I386 to the harddrive; I've tried loading an old version of Windows 98! and then doing an "upgrade" (actually a new install is the only option- it is an OEM version of XP Home, not an upgrade).
I've searched MS but nothing comes close to solving this issue.I've built systems before with XP pro (and older) and have never had anything close to the problems with this one.
Computer boots up normally and everything runs fine until I try to right click on a file or folder, anywhere on the drive. The first time I do it I get the context menu like I am supposed to get. the next time I click on a file or folder the screen goes blank for a half a second and then comes back on and has to reload the programs in my systray. I have already run my nortons AV and it finds nothing. Can't complete a scan from trend micro but it doesn't say it found anything (hangs prior to summary page). pandas active scan finds nothing. Adware finds nothing. Also if I highlight a folder or file and push the delete key, have the same results. Only deletes every other time the key is pushed.
