Dell Dimension 3000 - Driver Settings Require?
Sep 15, 2008Im going to re-install Microsoft windows xp Home Edition Which is a Purple disc, To Re-Install drivers What Disc/s Do I Use?. The other discs i have got are:
- Dell Eurotools Which is two Green Discs.
- Dell Dimension ResourceCD Which Has Drivers And Utilities At The Top (Blue Disc).
- Dvd for installing Dell Dimension And Dell XPS Computer Software, Which Has Drivers And Utilities At The Top (Blue Disc),
After Ive Installed Windows Xp Home Edition Which One Of them Do I Need To Use And Does The driver Settings Require Me To Input Settings?
Dell Dimension 3000 Will Not Boot After Removing Password
Oct 3, 2006Checking computer for a friend. It is a Pentium 4 2.80GHz running windows xp, bios ver. A01, 512MB memory. They called Dell and were told to take it to a technician, which I am not, and they cannot afford it.When turned on it showed the Dell logo and then asked for a password which they had no idea what it was. It would not do anything at all. After doing a lot of reading on this forum and others I decided to remove the password by changing the jumper on the motherboard that said ctr password for,30 seconds, and then putting it back in place and start the computer again.It then booted to a screen that said " We appologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. After some more explaining of possible causes it had the options of starting in, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode with Networking, Last known good configeration, Start Windows normally. Use the up and down arrows to highlight your choice.When I do highlight any one of the choices and hit enter the computer stops responding at all.
I can now get in and check the system info etc. It showed no password. It also shows no cdrom installed and it has a cdrom and dvd. It only shows the hard drive and floppy drive. The hard drive is a Segate Barracuda 7200.7 80 Gbytes.I ran the diagnostics that are on the computer and everything checked out except the Read Test on the hard drive. It said IDE Disk Error Code 0F00.0244 Msg Block 77765935. Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.I then tried to run a virus check from Fix-It Utilities on floppy. After the second disc it stopped and said it was unable to read drive c to restore boot area.Did I do something to the hard drive by removing the password and is there any way to check the hard drive for a virus? I don't understand why Dell told them to take it to a tech.
Mouse And Keyboard Are Not Working
Jul 5, 2006A buddy of mine is having problems with his PC. He said when he turns it on it seems to boot up fine (lights on case work) but his screen, mouse and keyboard are not working. Now Im assuming that all those burning out at the same time is next to impossible. I think it might have to do with the PC itself. I have yet to try a different screen and such just to make sure. Also if infact trying another screen fails i obviously will not be able to look in his bios, which leaves me kinda stumped.

Mar 8, 2008I am having issues with my keyboard and mouse(hence the title). My keyboard works fine while in the bios and while booting, but once the Windows Bar stops going from side to side and I start to see my desktop load, the screen is in 640x480 resolution or something (like safe mode) and I can't use my keyboard or my mouse, even though the lights on both are lit(so they have power). Earlier, I was having problems with my hal.dll (long story, but I ended replacing it from my MCE OEM CD in the recovery console((which I have in my MBR Boot menu)), and now I am here). I think that that might be the contributing issue here, but I have no clue what to do next. The same thing happens when I enter safe mode. I would just boot from my XP DVD and do a repair, but DELL gave me a DVD-ROM OEM disk with my XPS 600 even though the only drive I can boot from is my CD-RW DRIVE as far as I know. I have checked my boot order in my bios. I can boot from USB or Onboard or Removable Hard drives and Cd Drives.

At first the boot was failing, made some hardware changes and all was good seemingly... now the keyboard and mouse no longer work, but they work when the computer just starts up. They just stop working shortly after. I plugged in a USB mouse and that works, so I was thinking it may be a problem with the PS/2 ports.

Nov 17, 2009I was in the middle of checking over my term paper and the mouse started to have a delay and if I moved the cursor slightly it would jump all over the page. Then I tried to delete a word with the keyboard and nothing happened. I turned off the computer and unplugged and plugged the mouse and keyboard back in and when the start up screen came up on windows xp to log in my mouse didn't move at all. Could any one explain what is going on? I would greatly appreciate it. I got to get my paper off that computer.

1.The mouse scroll wheel works sometimes when surfing on internet , but most of the time it does not. It works fine when typing in Word.

Jul 23, 2005My first problem is that I can't shutdown my computer. I mean I can shut down the operating system, but the fan still runs. This seems to have come up within the last several weeks after I unplugged it once by accident. It wouldn't restart so I had to hit the reset button. I'd never previously used one, but thats what people suggested in other places when it wouldn't restart, just hit the reset button. So I did. Now I'm stuck with it not turning off. My second problem may be a direct result of the first. The last few days my keyboard and sometimes my mouse stop working.

Dec 17, 2006I had a warning from kaspersky saying it had found and deleted a tojan.Ok, so it was gone, but since my keyboard and mouse just stop working when they feel like it.
the strange thing though is the mouse will still move around (just wont make any tooltips appear or click on anything) and the keyboard wont type yet the shortcuts will still work for eg ctrl+alt+del, the windows logo key and ctrl+shift+esc are the ones i tried so far and they all work, and bring the correct things up

I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot?

Oct 24, 2010MS Wireless mouse 5000 with MS Bluetooth dongle. I bought the set to install on my desktop eMachine, XP w/SP3. The idiotic instructions only showed inserting the batteries into the KB and mouse and then inserting the BT transceiver into a USB port. Nothing. And the KB and mouse don't have buttons on the bottom. The worst thing is that all the MS articles I've read reference the "Bluetooth Devices" icon in the control panel.
When I bring up the CP, there is no BT icon there. I've done the command line "btprops.cpl" and nothing happens. I've turned the PC off, booted back again, and no plug and play detection of the BT dongle. When I go into the Device Manager, and check the properties of both the KB and mouse, both say they are installed and working properly! The KB and mouse set came with an installation CD and that was it. No freaking user manual and I can't find one on the CD.
