Computer Crashes And Restarts Without Warning
Feb 6, 2006
I am using Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and every updated that is required and available for this operating system. I am experiencing crashes which then restarts the computer, at restart the error report box opens up, and I send an error report, which Microsoft send a statement with regards to a driver error which as an I.D. Q322205, my problem is where or how do I reinstall this driver.

my PC has started rebooting without any seeming rhyme or reason -- and each time it restarts the disc check finds unhappy things.at first i thought the crashes were because of system overload -- too many programs running and/or tasks i was having it do all at once. with no applications running - and it'll blip out and reboot all on its own. more than once.i know there isn't a virus; i run norton and i also went digging, just to be sure. i also finally had it checked out; they couldn't find anything specific. i've stripped about all i can think of from my start-up and have removed software i like but don't have to have, trying to make it easier on the computer.the 'crash' doesn't give any warnings or errors. my computer simply does a restart.

I first noticed that explorer would crash a few weeks ago after I stumbled across an infected .wmf file while surfing the net. I was logged in under my limited account and my anti-virus detected the .wmf but it could not take action, I believe due to the fact I use system restore. I finally was able to delete the .wmf after which I ran several different scans and could not detect anything except Microsoft (R) HTML Application host had been altered (24,576 bytes to 24,064 bytes), so I replaced the file (note: explorer was already crashing before this point). The only time it seems to crash is once in a while when I click on My Document, Control Panel, My Pictures etc.

I'm running Windows xp professional, and I recently upgraded the hardware in my computer. After this upgrade my computer would infrequently just restart, about once a week or so, but I left for a trip to vancouver for a week and when I got back and turned my computer on the problem started getting much worse. Now it happens about ten times a day, and I can't just leave it off because I don't have another computer and I need this one for classes. Also, when I try to play games it shuts down, or freezes about ten minutes after I start. I have run AVG, Spybot, and ad-aware, and the problem remains. This problem seems to be completely random, sometimes it happens while I'm doing something, and sometimes it happens when the computer is doing nothing.

Explorer.exe will load when my machine starts up. About every 5-10 seconds, it will close, meaning my desktop blinks off. Another 10 seconds later (or around that) explorer.exe will start again and my desktop will come back. Eventually, it stops trying to load and the desktop stays off. I can go to task manager and run explorer.exe to repeat the process of having explorer.exe run, stop, run, etc. I don't receive any error messages when this happens. This machine has the latest Microsoft updates incl service pack 2.

I installed a USB media card reader in my system, soon thereafter, I began experiencing some problems with programs acting strangely and crashing, etc. I unplugged the card reader since I rarely use it anyway. The problems seemed to stop for about a week or so. Then the computer would just randomly restart in the middle of a game or when left running idle for a long time, such as overnight or while I'm at work. I thought that maybe my 420w psu was reaching its limits with 3 HDDs and 2 optical drives plugged in. I unplugged a single HDD and now the crashes happen less often, but still happen. The crashes are more likely to happen when playing a game, but the programs include the game itself, or winamp, trillian, skype, firefox, or "truevector service". Those are usually about the only programs I have running at all. Twice so far I have encountered the blue screen of death, which I hadn't seen I think since SP1 was released. So far I have tried updating my BIOS (all 3 available versions), updating my video card drivers, even reformatting my system drive, all to no avail.

it is not the hardware's issue, as this is a dual-boot windows ME and new installation of XP (w/SP2) home and this never happens when it is running ME, only XP (they are on different drives). What can this be due to, and how can I tweak my XP software to not crash (and create a need for system restore due to errors!) everytime I want to install software from a CD?

On a new computer I installed windows XP pro, updates and installed basic software, such as Office XP, McAfee, Firefox, etc. Whenever I open My Computer or windows explorer and browse through folders, after a little while explorer crashes and then restarts. This also sometimes happens when I open the start menu. Occasionally, Dr Watson postmortem debugger is triggered and the computer freezes until I end the process from the task manager.

At the beginning I thought I have it only whne I am using a special program. Now I saw I may have it even when I am not doing anything special - like reading a webpage. However, the main problem is when I am running Adobe Encore DVD - that program runs for a long while. Everytime it crashes (I mean win XP crashes with a blue screen). I have checked the event logger that what it says: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0x86764ec0, 0x86764f60, 0x0a140014) but most of the time I get the following: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0x804c6c2f, 0xf3e1cb30, 0x00000000).
I have searched web and found that I should try to do the following: to change DisablePagingExecutive value from 0 to 1. I have done it, and tried to run Encore. At the same point I got the following reason for OS failure: 0x1000000a (0x000005c4, 0x000000ff, 0x00000001, 0x804db8ca). I really don't know what to do. I have to finish the DVD REALLY SOON and I can't create the image. Please please please help me (to reinstall windows is not an option - I can't ensure that the DVD project will not be deleted and I can't backup 55GB).

My computer boots up and runs fine for several minutes to a few hours then all of a sudden the monitor screen goes black and (if it is on the screen) the mouse pointer gets big. I have to reboot and then sometimes it will work fine for as long as I am using it. Sometimes it does the same things several hours later or several minutes later. In other words I have not been able to establish a pattern for when it happens. Anybody have any ideas what may be going on? I use Windows 2000 Pro, Amd processor(sempron), 512 Megs of RAM, Computer motherboard about a year old.I got windows 2000 installed because I could not get XP registered with MS after old MB died. I kinda like Win 2K better anyway.I have cleaned out my case and tried to make sure processor is not overheating.Just am stumped as to what may be the problem.

The other day I using my computer (Compaq Presario), and the all of a sudden it rebooted without any warning. While it was starting when it showed the windows XP boot screen it jammed. So I turned it off and when I tried to boot it wouldn't. I have some ideas as to what the problem can be:1. Its overheating.2. The CPU is fried.3. There's something wrong with the video card.I have 2 fans inside the computer and about 1 week ago I bought a new CPU cooling fan. I believe the video card is a NVIDIA TNT2.

my computer just out of the blue will turn off, almost as if all power is cut off to the computer, it doesnt safely shut down it blacks out and cuts off BOOM, off. once it turns off, if i try and turn it on again, it will power up for about 3 seconds before it turns off again...? if i wait a little longer, it powers up for longer before it turns off again until if i wait about 10 minutes it will fully power up until the next time it will randomly turn off without warning, any signs or notice.

My computer keeps rebooting itself, no warning just closes down and reboots. It only does this when it is first switched on for the day and usually within a couple of minutes of starting up, then upon reboot it will last a similar sort of time before shutting down again. Afterwards it will be fine for the rest of the time it is on. Sometimes it doesnt even do it at all.

Yesterday I had 560 MB's of free space on Drive C, today I suddenly received a low disk warning. I had 163 MB's remaining, then a few minutes later I had 90 MB's. I searched Drive C for files/folders over 1 MB that had been modified in the last week and there were a half dozen huge files that were part of a Windows XP update it was trying to install. I turned off the automatic updates so I can do them manually from now on, but can I do anything about those files that were modified today to free up space? One of them is marked a temporary file - can I delete it?

I've been using Adobe Photoshop for awhile now and I seem to have a serious problem. Sometimes, when I'm using it, the computer just restarts without any error. This happened to me a few times. I tried Norton Virus Scanner, Adaware, Defragment, and System Restore. But sadly... it still doesn't work...It happened again when I was using spy bot and listening to music... what is the problem??

I have been unable to use Norton Virus scan because before the scan completes, the computer shuts off and the indicator light turns orange like it is in hibernate mode. I have to physically disconnect the power for five seconds to reboot. Is there a way to scan the computer for viruses or remove a particular virus that may be causing this?

I have been looking into this computer restarting. I have downloaded recent drivers and updates. I looked at Microsofts suggestions. After the bsod if comes back up and the error reports says they are not sure what it is but it has something to do with antivirus.
Here is the event. It seems to happen whenever they are playing games or online. sometimes they will just go back to the desktop and the program will close.

Ok so I just fixed a computer and reinstalled the Operating System. I booted it once an installed all the drivers again then restart it. Upon doing so it failed to boot the operating system. I rebooted it again and said start Windows in safe mode. This results in the Windows XP loading screen appearing but when it goes away the whole system restarts. The same thing happens no matter what I select on the "Windows did not start up last time" screen.

I was having some Adware and virus issues so I got help with those here, but in the process, it looks like I did something pretty screwy. If I shut down from the start button it only restarts the computer. If I try to open it up in safe mode via msconfig from run, it just restarts the computer in normal mode. If I try F8, same thing.I get a "your system has recovered from a seriour error" every time the computer restarts. When I dig for details on the error, this is what it says.
