Computer Wont Start Up - Reset WINSOCK Entries To Installation

I'm running a Dell Inspiron E1505. My wireless was having a problem. I followed the steps outlined in this post. ://forums.techguy.org/networking...-internet.html Mainly I went into command prompt and did the following: Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log When I went to restart my computer wouldn't turn on! The power light is illuminated, the CD drive clicks once, but other than that nothing happens.

i have a dell desktop windows xp sp2 and i had gotten a virus and cleaned it out after i got it out of the system i ended up with no internet connection i keep going to the command prop and typing in the command line to reset winsock and it dosent seem to work i also used a couple programs to try to fix the problem i know its winsock because in the command prob when trying to renew my ip address it says error connecting to rps server or something like that i also talked to road runner tech support and got it narrowed down to being a winsock problem i don't know what to do there is no subnet mask address or ip address and the computer doesnt seem to want to co-operate with me for anything ive tryed safe mode and just normal startup mode the only thing i can think to do is fdisc and reformat the HDD and i cant even do that because i lost my windows xp disc and there is no recovery partition on the hdd any ideas on what happened or how to fix this?

i had Nero 6 ultra edition and removed it but have still got entries in the registry causing problems with the reinstalling of it. i made a mess the license key entry and it won't reinstall. is there a way of removing all traces of the prog so that i can do a clean reinstall?

Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT). 1)Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer RunMRU. 2)Delete all of the values that you dont want in this key (everything in the right pane, except for (Default)). 3)Close the Registry Editor when finished. You'll probably have to refresh the Desktop or restart Windows for this change to take effect.

I lost the Internet Explorer and Outlook express entries from START, ALL PROGRAMS. Don't know why. System Restore from yesterday could not restore anything.
I also lost these 2 entries from the quick launch bar on the left, beside the START button. Obviously IE is still on the system because I'm here.

I was having problems due to SP3 but I didn't know it. I haven't seen any posts on it here but there's a big hubub over at the microsoft technet forum.) Ran a dell diagnostic and had many system memory failures come up. So, I decided to reseat my memory cards for a start. It was the first time I opened up my Dell Dimension 8400 (which I purchased about 4 years ago...I hope that gives some help as to what is in it because I really don't know besides that it has an intel pentium 4 inside). It was VERY dusty so we bought some canned air and went about cleaning it. I did use a vacuum on the inside cover but I was careful not to touch any of the componenets inside. I followed all of the instructions. We did blow air into the fan (something I didn't know wasn't good, per another site I went to later that said you shouldn't)! When we plugged everything back in it worked it's way up to a very loud whirring noise (I thought the fan was going to just break off and fly around the room!). Could be I just had never heard it run outside of the cupboard on my desk (which I now know I shouldn't have had it in)! But, the worst part is, my monitor does not come up with the computer (doesn't matter how many times I press the on/off on the monitor) and not even the lights on the keyboard light up

Have got some registry entries in HKCU root folder that I have never seen before I have recently installed Net Framework 3.5 and Visual Basic 2008 Express, these entries may have something to do with one or both of these installs.

I just recently had to get rid of a virus, and even though multiple virus check software says that I'm clean, I'm still having trouble in that I can't connect to the internet through dialup anymore. Looking through avasts log shows that kernel32.dll, winsock.dll, and wsock32.dll were all infected, so I believe that there is residual corruption on these files. Because I can't just replace kernel32.dll, I was wondering if there was a way I could fix both winsock.dll and winsock32.dll. I have my xp reinstall disk and was thinking maybe I could extract it from there, but have no idea how to do this.

I have the monitor turned on. I hit the power button on my pc, it powers on. However, the monitor still flashes with the "testing screen" or whatever with the color bars floating around. Also, my reset button light is constantly lit. And finally , the lights on my keyboard flash rapidly and never stop until I turn my pc off.

My computer showed it had a virus and I hit F-11 at startup to put the computer into Safe Mode, but during the process I ended up resetting my computer to the factory settings. The reset said that it would save all my current files into My Backup but I can not find them. I need to reverse the reset and bring my computer hard drive back to the current settings. How can I do this? I heard that the information is still on the hard drive, but I don't know how to retrieve it.

I lost power this morning. I rebooted and everything was fine all day. Then after being off the computer for an hour or so (but my brother was on), it went nuts! Many things went back to the way they were 3 or 4 weeks ago: I've lost several away messages on AIM and some old ones are suddenly back. My little drop-down history bar thing on IE has URLS i haven't gone to in a few weeks and doesn't have ones I was at today. I'm missing a few programs I recently downloaded. (Like AdAware and yahtzee.) But my wallpaper, favorites, emails and most other files are as they should be.

I formatted my hd and reinstalled windows. However, after I finished installing all the drivers the system was running pretty sluggish. Also I have no been able to get an anti-virus program running. Everytime I try to install one, after I reset the comp, it freezes after the welcome screen. Actually I can move the mouse around but it won't finish loading up. I ended up reformating again, I installed all the drivers, it ran fine for a little bit, I created a restore point, I installed a virus scan, and same happened again. Also, the system restore kept turning off after every restart. Now i'm in safe mode and can't even undo the virus scan installation. I don't get any kind of errors, it just won't work. Previously the computer ran in this exact setup for about 6 months w/ no problems.

I am getting the following error message:"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: Isapnp.sys" error message at startup"
I have tried to repair it by booting off the original XP setup CD but when the computer starts up the CD is not read and the error message pops up again. Any suugetstion?

I believe its a problem with the actual start up button instead of the computer itself, ive pried the thing open, seeing the generator is on, everythings in place and there are lights on, showing there is power. any ideas?

earlier today I was installing Perfect Disk and right at the end of the installation, my computer restarted. After that each time Windows started up it would only get as far as the "Loading Personal Settings" part and it would restart again before I even get a chance to see my desktop.Figuring it was something to do with the failed installation of Perfect-disk, I entered Windows in safe mode (Without any restarts) and I disabled the loading of anything related to Perfect Disk.This didn't fix the problem and I tried disabling every single program on start up and that didn't fix anything either.I've attached the dump files from the Mini dump folder if that helps with the problem.

My computer locked up during an installation upgrade and when i try to revert back to windows 2000 i changed the bios settings, then i have the following error: Resource Conflict-PCI mass Storage Controller Bus: 00, Device 10, Function: 00 After wards it says to press delete/Esc to continue and it says the operating system is not found.

It looks I lost my booklet with the instalation code for my computer system. I bought my HP Pavilion a1012x 2 years ago. I created emergency, recovery dvd as instructed at that time. It looks I missplaced the code for the installation of it(can't find it anywhere). I wanted to clean my hard disc due to the fact that my comp has become very slow. I think reinstallation of the system would be the best solution as I tried for virus search, registry reparation, creating new recovery points, removing some programs but all without result. Is there any chance and way to recover my installation code from my computer now in order to reinstall my operating system from my emergency dvd? I bought all required computer parts and I'm assembling these together to build my brand new desktop system. I assembled all the parts and I'm trying to install the XP Home OS. Every time I try to do this, my system is behaving strangely. After the partitioning and formatting is completed, it threw an error saying C drive is corrupted. I restarted my system and started installing OS again. This time also I went thru' paritioning and formatting and it didn't complain the previous error. Now it failed while doing the setup saying it couldn't copy so and so file. I repeated the process again and now it complained it couldn't copy some other file. I tried this 5 to 6 times and each time, it complained a new different file that it couldn't copy and one of those I remember is appender.exe. Sometimes, it's not even recognizing the hard drive. It's saying that couldn't find hard drive on my system. I went thru' BIOS settings and everything looks cool.

I have a P3 with 256mb ram.I encountered a prob,i e the system restarted very fequently and i re installed win xp and it worked till the screen where it reads "installing devices".from there it again re starts and setup is re started.i did clean my CPU and dint work. IS it a prob of boot?

So I tried to installed Windows SP3 as well as a bunch of other things and my computer kept crashing and acting weird. I couldn't pin point it so I had to re-format my computer and lost lots of stuff. I also had to re-format about 4 times for some reason. Each time Windows wasn't installing correctly.
So after a brand new fresh install of Windows XP I updated my computer and installed SP3. As soon as I did that my computer wouldn't log into windows anymore and once again I lost a few things. Now I know that SP3 is a bunch of crap.

I decided to make the move and give SP3 a try,I shouldn't have bothered!All went well, and the system rebooted, well into the boot sequence I was greeted by a blue screen:STOP: C0000139 {Entry Point Not Found}The procedure entry point GdiGetBitmapBitSize could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll.
Naturally, I fired up Acronis True Image and restored this morning's image, but I figure at some point they'll try to push this update down on patch Tuesday

I recently reformatted my computer and installed windows xp home and keep running into a problem when starting the computer. It tells me that two operating systems are installed and that I need to select which one I want to run. Both are windows xp home. If I choose the first one it runs fine if I choose the second one I get a message that says: Windows could not start because of a computer dis hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

I have recently purchased and installed a Seagate external Hard Drive. When I turn my computer on the screen remains blank. I have to turn everything off, unplug the External hard Drive and then everything operates normally. Once the computer is booted up I can reconnect the external hard Drive and all works fine. The othe rnoticeable difference ids that the computer has become very very slow to respond to commands.
