I have the monitor turned on. I hit the power button on my pc, it powers on. However, the monitor still flashes with the "testing screen" or whatever with the color bars floating around. Also, my reset button light is constantly lit. And finally , the lights on my keyboard flash rapidly and never stop until I turn my pc off.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis past week my laptop started going nuts and I think I may have picked up a virus. Here's what is happening:The system mute check box on the master volume control toggles mute on and off constantly. Input from me has no effect whatsoever. Task manager shows no suspect operations that I can see and nothing seems to help in stopping it from happening. Symantec AV removed a trojan, but that did not stop the madness.My comp is a Toshiba U205-5002 running a fully updated version of WinXP SP2.

When turned on, it starts to show the post check on the screen, then it stops and beeps once, followed by 9 more beeps. After a minute or so, it seems to warm up and start. Sometimes I have to hit the reset button. Once running, it is fine, but it is driving me crazy to figure out the beeps. I know that once upon a time, in DOS, different numbers of beeps meant something, but I can't remember or find a reference.It is irritating to have this sequence when starting the computer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Windows XP home edition. My computer locks up every now and then, the mouse, keyboard, everything. The only way to recover it is to press the reset button. It may go for days and have no problems, then may lock up several times in one day. Than it might go for days again with no problems. It happens a lot when you are playing the windows games, but it will also do it sometimes with other programs. I have looked everywhere to try and figure it out, but I have had no luck. Do you have any ideas what might be causing this or where I can look to correct this problem?

Ran a dell diagnostic and had many system memory failures come up. So, I decided to reseat my memory cards for a start. It was the first time I opened up my Dell Dimension 8400 (which I purchased about 4 years ago...I hope that gives some help as to what is in it because I really don't know besides that it has an intel pentium 4 inside). It was VERY dusty so we bought some canned air and went about cleaning it. I did use a vacuum on the inside cover but I was careful not to touch any of the componenets inside. I followed all of the instructions. We did blow air into the fan (something I didn't know wasn't good, per another site I went to later that said you shouldn't)! When we plugged everything back in it worked it's way up to a very loud whirring noise (I thought the fan was going to just break off and fly around the room!). Could be I just had never heard it run outside of the cupboard on my desk (which I now know I shouldn't have had it in)! But, the worst part is, my monitor does not come up with the computer (doesn't matter how many times I press the on/off on the monitor) and not even the lights on the keyboard light up

The power light is illuminated, the CD drive clicks once, but other than that nothing happens.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter booting up OK, any attempt to click on the Start button leads to a box appearing labelled RUNDLL. Within this box the letter 'r' is repeatedly and continuously printed. The box can be closed but the error recurs if the Start button is clicked again. At the same time there are intermittent 'bleeps' from the speakers, and clicking on ANY icon on the desktop opens only the recycle bin! If you try making a search with Google again the letter 'r' is repeatedly generated in the seach box.
Repeated scans with (updated) Norton Antivrus 2005 and with Ad-aware have not helped. Strangely, at some times the computer behaves completely normally.

I've run a few spyware scans and deleted all (most were cookies) and also some virus scans with AVG. It picked up about 11 viruses! but I quarantined them. Anyways, the problem is there's no shutdown or run button on my start menu! I've never heard of that before. So I'm wondering what it is. I've tried to access the registry editor by pressing Windows + R, typing regedit in Command Prompt, and browsing through the Windows folder for it, but it comes up with "Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator" I don't get this, I AM the administrator! What could it be!?

The only way I can get started is Control/Alt/Delete, which raises Task Manager, then enter URL for Internet Explorer (.exe) to get into the internet, then either hit the Read Mail button to get Outlook Express, or enter the Outlook Express URL into Task Manager.Can't access C-drive at all. Haven't tried A or D drives yet
View 20 Replies View Relatedrecently I loaded up my computer, logged inunder my user profile (I'm running Windows XP SP2), Everything looked normal until the system completed loading and my wallpaper icons vanished (Wallpaper stays), My start button & Task manager bar vanished as well(including the clock).I logged out of my profile, and was able to use the profile I had set up for my mom for about a day... but then her profile did the same thing. I tried my daughter's profile and everything is gone.When I looked in my listing of what applications are running, I've noticed that my explorer.exe is gone.
My Task manager has been disabled what can I do to Keep it going? The second problem is that my turn off computer button will not stay on my start menu. I have tried a few different things that people have told me, but everytime I reset, it goes back to no button.
