Is it better to disinfect files that are infected by viruses,or to delete the infected files?I've set my virus program to automatically delete virus infected files.I don't know if that's the right thing to do.

NeonFx, worked me through getting rid of a really nasty bug and now my machine has been proclaimed CLEAN! However, one of the really annoying side issues was that my printer was totally bogged down. I figured that getting rid of the virus would get my printer back. It spools up, starts to print, and then nothing....takes over 15 minutes to print a half page of word doc. I reinstalled the printer software and updated the drivers. It's still the same...no change. I spent HOURS on the phone today with an HP tech from the Philippines. He basically redid what I did, and said I was running out of RAM. Not true...I've got nearly 50% of RAM available....

2 days ago my computer was infected with a virus (virus.win32.virut.ce) that has ripped it to shreads! Anyway, I got a windows XP disc hoping that I could erase everything and start new but I've noticed that when I start up and I press "CTRL S" to get into my bios, I can't change my boot options. It says:
Network Boot Protocol --- PXE
Boot Order --- Use BIOS boot order
And when I try to change either of those settings it says: "There are no other choices for this option"
My computer is a bit old now, bought it around 2003. It has an MSI GNB Max-SR (motherboard) Serial ATA RAID (Whatever that is) Pentium 4
I am getting an error message from AOL safety. It reads "We found and were not able to clean or block a virus infected file. (C:windowssystem32winlogon.exe) My operating system is Windows XP.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to reformat my HD but can't get past the "Loading Setup files".I have a Win XP SP1 CD from which I am trying to reinstall by reformatting my HD. Current OS on the computer is XP SP2. After booting from the CD, it goes through the Loading of Setup files and then I get the STOP ERROR. It says that "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to protect your .....". I have tried restoring my computer to two different previous checkpoints but I can not get past that screen. I have never encountered this problem before because I have clean installed several times but this time I am having this problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a virus, McAfee cleaned them and now today I cannot open task manager. It opens then closes that fast. McAfee still finds no viruses. I've ran ewido 2 days ago and spybot. IE sometimes doesn't load and I cannot access the resistry from RunRegedit.exe, it also opens then closes.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWell I downloaded a program and my Bitdefender picked it up as a virus I knew it wasn't because my friend had downloaded it from the same place and it worked. So I closed Bitdefender and unzipped it again used the program and when I turned my Pc on the next day Bitdefender came back on and saw the 'Viruses' So I'm now stuck with 5 files on my Desktop that I cannot delete (two files are from the program and .exe and a .dll) the other one file is a text document which I was scripting for a game I am making and when I went to save it Bitdefender said it was a highly dangerous virus.

I was running AVG anti virus. Now I removed AVG and installed Microsoft supplied security essential software. It detected following virus ware and removed subsequently I want to recover deleted .pst and thunderbird mails.

This applies to programs, icons, photos, documents , folders etc - I cannot get to any of my work to back it up. I have tried Stinger -F-Force and W32.Blackmal@mm Removal Tools. Ran a full AVG scan with uptodate anti virus and Adaware Spyware. Sorry forgot to mention other things tried. The Pop up message does not appear in the Task Manger either as applications or processes. Each time you respongd NO to negate the delete it pops up again. There is no way I can get to any of my folders or files to burn to a CD as backup without the Confirm Delete message.

The files and folders that I am addressing are: C:WINDOWSTEMP*.* *.OLD *.CHK *.BAK ~*.* _*.* and MSCREATE.DIRI have managed to clean all but one, which is _*.* When I run the search, I get the result of 144 files. I click on edit, select all, then file, delete. I receive the following error "cannot delete file: Cannot read the source file or disk" (please view screen shot). When I right click, I have no delete option, just "open containing folder, copy, and extract. (please view screen shot). I have run AdAware, Spybot, Ewido, and Avg Free. I also have CCleaner, Easy Clean which I have run. I have also used "Move On Boot" by putting the file path in the MOB window and try to have MOB delete the file. MOB says the file will be removed on the next boot.

I then put computer in safe mode and ran Norton, but virus didn't show. Cleaned out registry, still to no avail. What can I do to get rid of this virus?? Filename: oeiuxr.dll and it located in windowssystem32. Also had over 60 of the trojan.elitebar, but was able to clear all of them. This trojan horse is the only remaining. HELP!

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy comp recently just caught an virus and I have tired many anti-virus programs to remove it and so far, no luck.Avast reported the file that is infected, but is unable to delete it. So I decided to check it myself, it's a file in my systems/drivers and when I tired to delete it. It saids the following "Cannot delete uwvwibuv: Cannot read from the source file or disk.". I have tired using "Unlock" to delete it, doesn't work.Note, this virus is also causing all my anti-virus programs not to connect online, so I cannot update them. I have tried using Malwarebytes-antiware, doesn't detect it. I can't use system restore because it's being blocked by group policy after "I caught the virus" (Worked before).I had tired running in safe mode, checking task for unknown programs, and I can't delete it.

i downloaded "Demo Version" Jv16 Power tools 2005 from a link to find duplicate files and clean my registry, I thought that programs I had uninstalled and reinstalled for varius reasons were all duplicated with missing files. The download didn't have the handbook which i found out later i needed so now after running dup. file finder, reg cleaner. I have a very unstable system nothing stays stable and there is a mass of backups I don,t know where to start. The forum there won,t help. supposedly I got a old Beta version. My backups don,t look anything like there's. I would like to go back to before i installed with system restore point but i dont know if it can retrieve files from Jv16 backup or what.
View 3 Replies View RelatedGot new parts for PC upgrade. All parts new (including cables) but recycled HDD and DVD/CD-ROM.All bits connected and powered up last night in about 10 mins. Put Windows XP CD in, went into setup/ reformat process then PC needed rebooting to continue with Windows setup. Fine. or so I thought. rebooted, went into "Please press any key to boot from CD". IF pressed any key, went through the whole reformat, copy setup files etc. ELSE, just hangs on that screenie. No error messages or anything!Seems to me like it's gone into a loop, and not running the Windows set-up files copied into the HDD.

i have an external/portable hard disk. i connect it to my laptop by usb.everything used to be okay, i mean with all the contents inside it. but now recently i have this problem with this particular folder. all folders could be clicked, highlighted, right clicked, accessed; but this one folder, whenever i attempt to highlight it/select it, or when i single/double or right click it, the window would just freeze.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThere are many files listed in this folder. I am unable to delete them. When I go to this directory in safe mode command prompt there are no files. I even used dir /A:H to included hidden files and there are none. But I can still see them in Windows XP PRO. I have Norton 360 and it did not find any viruses. Went I try to delete them windows gives no errors. Some of the files even have the same name and extension. Is there a cache or a temp file I need to delete first?
