Problem is browser hanging and having to reboot. Task manager won't even end it half the time. Not sure of all the running processes in task manager either. Have CWShredder, Ad-Aware, Spybot, SpySubtract, PestPatrol. Run everything I can to keep up, but still browser hangs. Also, browser temp files and history and so on I keep clean.
View 2 RepliesI bought a new Dell 1720 laptop with XP on it. When I restart or shut down, the computer hangs on the desktop wallpaper for about 5-7 minutes. Sometimes I just have to manually shut it down by holding in the start button.
View 2 Replies View Relatedcomputer is set to go into standby mode when I shut the lid, but lately when I reopen it (usually 10-15 minutes later) I just get a black screen and have to reboot. The only thing I can think of that may have caused this is changing my hardware acceleration. I was having problems with Microsoft Streets and Trips and their GPS and they told me to turn HA down. Not sure if this is the direct cause.
View 2 Replies View Related1st I use internet explorer for my web browser. At work when I click on it it pops right up with out even thinking about it Page loads with in 10 seconds every time. At home. Some times it will take 30 seconds to a minute to start after I click on it.2nd issue is this Occasionally I will come into my computer after not using it for 8-10 hours or so and I will have a ton (sometimes 40+) Error messages that say "unable to launch restart.exe".I can close all of them but then the computer runs like a tank. I always have to do a hard shut down after this too.It will NOT restart using the proper methods just hangs up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been suffering through a weird phenomenon lately. Whenever I go to IE the first time of any boot or reboot, it "hangs" after filling up the status bar for several minutes, then releases and all is well. (NOTE: I don't think this is IE-specific. It has happened booting apps, but I notice it most with IE as I use it extensively.) When things seem to lock up, EVERYTHING is locked up. I can't even bring up Task Manager, none of the icons in the Task Bar are active, etc. Sometimes I can Tab through other apps that are open, sometimes not, but when I can, the app is "frozen" until whatever is going on finishes. During this time, I can watch the process light (I have a Dell D600 laptop) going nuts. Before and after this event, I have run the system through the latest updates of utilities such as Ad-Aware Plus, Ad-Watch, PestPatrol, Symantec Antivirus, Ace Utilities, RegSeeker, etc., and none of them sends up a flag that anything is wrong.
My machine is always up-to-date via Windows Update feature, so I don't know what is causing this. I had the bright idea to reinstall XP SP2, but can't. Every time I try, it quits, giving me nothing more than a smal window with a red X in it and the notification that the install has been cancelled. I ordered the free XPSP2 CD just to see if that would make any difference, but I get the same error. I suspect I could attempt a slipstream install, but I don't want to go through all that if anyone out there recognizes this problem and knows what the solution is outside of doing a slipstream reinstall of SP2. Finally, I have several times done System Restores going back as far as I can, but while they have been successful (although I usually have to do the restore in Safe Mode as they will often fail otherwise), it has made no difference related to this problem.
computer was in blue screen. Unplugged and rebooted. Hung at Starting Windows. Unplugged again and rebooted. Selected user and continued on. Hung after desktop image was downloaded and normal desktop was presented. If I moved the cursor to the task bar, got hour glass. Could not get task manager to appear and could not start any program.Booted in safe mode with networking.

When I open Internet Explorer, my home page (www.google.com) opens.When it is finished loading, it automatically redirets to yahoo mail login page. The catch is, all my browsers windows that are open will be changed too. If I hit "stop" before the page is loaded, then hit "refresh", this action does not occur. I have Microsoft updates automatically downloade do my computer. I have the latest MacAfee anti-virus on my computer and have run the latest scan. I have run Microsoft beta spy-ware, ad aware and yahoo's version. I am not seeing anything.

Browsing seemed to go quicker and smoother. This morning, however, I got a MS Windows message concerning "possible" trouble with my browser. It recommended examining my add-ons in IE. I don't have sufficient knowledge to recognize what I should and shouldn't have or, more appropriately, what may be harmful here. I know that those "RealPlayer" programs are invasive so when I saw that listed, I disabled it.
View 23 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted and installed Windows XP Home fresh on both my desktop and laptop. All worked fine even after getting updated until the last update on each. On the desktop it included Service pack 2 update but not on the laptop, it was a new update but still has only service pack 1. On each computer the browsers both IE6 and foxfire started running very slow. IT would take many seconds to get new pages open. On the laptop I restored and IE6 works fine but I am still having a problem with Foxfire and it also received a Foxfire update. Any idea how to fix this problem without restoring and losing the needed update? I have run XP on both systems for a good while and never had this problem.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi use both mozilla firefox and internet explorer when i have to and when i log into anything form hotmail to ebay on either of these and then click on any icon requiring you to be logged in i am returned to a page telling me to sign in, could this be a virus or even spyware? i have done scans; (ad-aware, AVG, Spybot, Windows Defender, Registry Mechanic, CCleaner, Zone labs antispyware and trend micro pc-cillin interent security) could it be that maybe on of these has removed a file that allows me to log in?

I have attempted everything i can think of deleting the cookies, cache, and adjusting settings to "check for new versions of pages

for some reason every time I start up my computer I get a Bad Image message saying that the file mshtml.dll is not a valid image. Because of this I can't use the internet! I take it out of the folder and put it back in and my internet starts to work. Now when I go to Internet Explorer I go to the browser and when I type in a site it just crashes and says IE has encountered a problem it has to shutdown. Luckly I have AOL also! but when I try to download with either browsers, it just shows a bar in the left corner loading as it does when you go to any other site and then it just stops and goes away.

Some sites , like this one, I can log on but it won't remember me & I have to log in again. I am constantly getting the Security Alert banner on the screen. The one about the certificates. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had XP 64 installed for a about 10 days now and everything is working fine. I didn't have any issues with drivers or applications. The default install and updates seem to use two versions of IE (64 and 32). I've swapped all my icons to choose the 32 bit version since there is no flash support for 64 bit browsers at this time. My problem is that I get a lot of links inside emails and when I click on those it always uses the 64 bit version. I've tried to change the default browser option through control panel but it only offers the option of IE and won't let me select which IE. I also have IE 32 set to check to make sure it's the default browser. I've done some Google searches but I must not be asking the right question because I can's find much on IE 64.
