Boot Checkdisk Error?

Jan 13, 2005

He turned on his computer today and it just froze at the windows loading screen. When my father came home from work he tried to boot it into safe mode to try and do a rollback to a safe point, but instead it would give him a screen with some lines on it which will follow in a moment. He then tried to run chkdsk in safe mode but it just hung there so he restarted it and it went straight into safe mode with no indication it was running chkdsk except the HD light is going so perhaps it is in the background. Either way we went ahead with the Windows Xp disk to try and do a repair and ran a chkdisk from there and it finished said it found 1 or more errors then went into safe mode again with the hd light running. He is unable to do anything at all in safe mode atm but is letting it sit there jic the hd is doing chkdisk again.
Anyway here are the lines it keeps giving.

Checkdisk Error Cannot Open Volume For Direct Access

Feb 21, 2006

This problem started happening randomly and now I cannot run checkdisk at all on reboot. Basically I cannot run Checkdisk at all on my OS drive because it always says in Windows that it is in use and needs to run the scan on next reboot. After I reboot, the above error message displays (see thread title).I've ran a virus scan and spyware/adware scans and I'm now pretty sure that it isn't the issue. I've tried disabling all non-essential services in services.msc and disabling all startup items under msconfig.exe, neither of which made any difference.I'm really beating my head against the wall on this one, I have no idea what the cause is?

Hdd Slow During Checkdisk

Sep 28, 2008

. Everything is going pretty well, but I have tried to perform a chkdsk. My internal hard disk is partioned as C and D; they "accepted" perfectly chkdsk in "normal times", but the 80 G external, that as a matter of fact, behaves perfectly, has taken more than three hours (until I stopped it) in the last revewing: the "files" = it practically stops in "2%"; other previous three ones's reviews took normal time. Is it just for the hard disk's size, or is it the sign that something is going wrong? Many thanks and greetings

Wants To Run A Checkdisk On My External USB Drive

Aug 28, 2005

I am running XP sp1 Recently windows wants to run a checkdisk on my external USB drive.
This is done every time I start windows.Even though the checkdisk result shows no errors it wants do do it every time on boot up.I did a manual checkdisk ( full check) and it seemed to clear it up for a couple of days but now it had returned to the same situation. The disk is fairly new so I do not think there are any problems with it and
it runs fine.

Scheduled Checkdisk Freezes At 83%

Oct 29, 2007

I setup a full scan of my hard drive. Upon restart the checkdisk program starts and that is where my problem begins. It checks ok through steps 1,2,3,4 but freezes at 83% on step 5. PC is locked cannot do anything. Power off and on again, checkdisk starts again, try hitting any key to cancel but it does not recognize the keys and starts the scan over again and with same results. How can I cancel the scan and restart my windows os?

I scheduled a checkdisk on my drive c: checking both automatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors options. it does the scanning completely but when i restart the pc, windows does not load and it goes back to the checkdisk menu again. Even if i let it complete another scan, it keeps coming back to the checkdisk menu, unless i interrupt it and choose starting the pc at last known good configuration option. what do u think can i do with this? Also, i cannot create a restore point with system restore, and most of my restore points are lost.*Im using a new hard drive, the windows files are copied from my old hard disk using DiskWizard.

Setup Duel Boot Configuration - Slow Boot Up - Occurred Error Operating System

Oct 27, 2007

I"m running WinXP SP2 Home. Hardware is 2.0 Celeron, 1 gig Ram, 64MB Nvidia Video Card, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, HD's are 250GIG Western Digital with 4 partitions and 27% free on the XP Boot and 200GIG Western Digital with 2 Partitions. I have a Lite-On DVD +-R/RW drive and a 3.5 floppy. I am setup with a Duel-Boot configuration Win 98/XP. I do not have a paging file.

My problem occures after I hit enter for the Select Operating System page. I Hit enter, Win XP proceeds to load. After I hit enter and Windows loads the blue welcome screen 1 minute has passed. I hear the Welcome Audio music, however blue welcome screen is still there for 30 more seconds. Next is my picture that I have as my background that is shown without icons for 1minute 21seconds. Windows now displays my icons on my desktop. the icons blink at minute 4. after 4 minutes and 51 seconds I am able to use my computer. At bootup I only have 43 programs running and 357MB of the 1 gig ram taken.

What I have done:
1) I have started in safe mode and defraged my PC, 0% frag on all partitions except a drive that isn't currently plugged in and it was 1% because it's my backup drive (not worried about that 1%)
2)Removing all connected Componets and rebooted, same problem.
3) I have tried using msconfig.exe and setting the startup selection as Normal- it's defaulted to Selective. Tried reducing my startup programs. ....

I could boot both xp and media center but the vista boot screen always shows up and would have to go into "ealier versions of windows" and choose my OS from there. I read somewhere to get rid of the vista boot screen I should delete "bootmgr" file and "boot" folder from the root of C: I did this and now nothing works. It tries to boot into vista boot screen but it says files are missing and resets

I am having probllems installing Windows XP, first of all the installation is unusually slow, it has more than 5 hours installing. Then i have a boot error from Windows NOT from the BIOS, i have tried getting into the Repair Console an using FIXMBR and FIXBOOT, unsuccesfully; removed every suspecious setting on my BIOS..... The installator copies small parts, copy 1% or 2% and stops for a while (I think it is decompressing the files, but that slow!?). After that i get a booting error (I dont remember what does it says; i will post it later, when my 4th attemp ends).

Won't Boot (error On Boot) / Can't See SATA Drive

Mar 31, 2010

I had voltage fluctuations last night due a snowstorm and the voltage dropped crashing my PC.It now won't boot and gives the error that a file is corrupted.Windows/system32/config..The PC runs an OEM XP home edition on a SATA drive, the PC also has an IDE drive (D) but the OSes are on the C drive.Inside the XP installation I have Linux Mint installed. When I boot I get the 2 options I always used to , XP (default) and Linux Mint.XP won't boot when selected and gives the error above. The Linux Mint, also on C and in fact installed as a program within XP, will boot, hence I believe the SATA drive to be undamaged.I can see the C drive and all the XP files from the Linux installation.I've tried using the original full CD and the recovery console but when the recovery console opens all it can see is the IDE drive which it labels D (and of course doesn't contain the original XP install.I can't remember how I got XP on the SATA drive in the first place, I don't appear to have any Hard drive drivers in the case I keep all software CDs in and I'm a bit flummoxed. I can only imagine I just fitted it and loaded the XP install disc but that's at odds with what seems to be happening now.Spent a large part of today Googling but can't find anything that will fix this. so far.I don't want to have to wipe and re-install everything unless there's no option, it's a fast way to kill a couple of days over the holidays.

HD Boot Up Error - Can't Boot Cd

Nov 29, 2006

Home Brew Computer .. Windows XP SP2 (with all the updates .. except IE7) Ive installed a new ATA 250 gig Seagate Cloned a good OS .. Making the C: partition 50 gig. The second Data Partition is recognized as the remaining 184 gig and the Drive seems to be working great. Every boot up .. Windows says the software for the HD is not found and the ST3250824A may not work properly .. etc .. etc. Once past these messages .. all seems OK.

. With one exception. When trying to make an Acroins backup of the C: Partition to an external HD . It has many reports of Sectors being used or faulty .. and can not continue. If I use the Acronis Boot CD .. Acronis is AOK If I run Sea tools .. It results in a blacked out (result screen) upon completion. Windows Check and Fix disc seems OK. The device manager reports the Monitor with a yellow .. but the VIAS3G UniChrome Pro IGP device is working properly. Right now .. Im not using the owners Monitor..

The Raid Controller PCI bus 0, device 15 says the Drivers are not installed (code 28) But Im not using the Raid Mobo SATA connections (ATA drives only) This drive was Cloned from an 80 gig that was freshly restored from the Windows CD. When this 80 gig is re-installed it does not have the boot up error .. and Acronis runs internally OK. The device manger still has the same two yellow Questions which are understandable .. IMO. A new ATA Seagate 320gig is on order for an external enclosure application.

Boot From CD Error

Aug 30, 2005

I just upgraded my computer with a new mobo and vid card . I have WinXP BTW. Everthing was working fine until last night. I recorded a performance into Sound Forge and was about to save it when the computer shut down. It automatically tried to reboot but gave me an error like "Boot From CD. Insert disk and press enter". (btw, both of my harddrives were recognized) Well, I had no disk so I just pressed enter. It then proceeded to do a scan disk check. The message I received was "Your computer has just recovered from a serious error" . It suggested I send a report to Microsoft. I however have no internet connection at home. The details of the error included to file addresses. One was something like C:\Documents and Settingsminidump.......

I tried turning the PC on this morning and it turned on fine. The only thing I noticed was a mechanical sound like when the floppy drive is searching for a disk and there is none present. What could possibly be wrong?

I figured this was normal for the error-checking program, but I left it for a couple of hours and came back. It still hadn't started, so I shut it down and booted to safe mode and did a system restore back to the beginning of yesterday. Right now I have it booting again and it stopped at the same spot.

Boot Up Error / 2000 Professional

Jan 1, 2008

SystemRoot/System32/Drivers/asc3550f Erro status was oxc000012f Windows 2000 Professional system I recently purchased this computer system ($50) for my Mother who simply does e-mail and games (not on line games). I had to remove malware at first (can't remember the name) and had to install msconfig as 2000 did not have this feature. Now upon booting up, a window pops up with the above message, however upon clicking on the small x to close the window, then computer boots up and she uses it. Nothing else happens. I decided to go into the WINN file and found a folder (drivers) and actually saw the little driver file "asc3559f" and was going to simply remove it by copying it to another folder, shutting down and trying to reboot but must admit, I chickendd out. She lives about 100 miles from me so I didn't want to cause trouble and left it alone and I am now beginning to think since it boots after closing the pop up window; leave well enough alone.
