tryed to stop processes and the following errors came in a blue screen 0X00000050 (0XE4191000, 0X3600000000, 0X804F2BR0, 0X00000001)
Does WinXP Home CD have the repair option as Pro does?
View 3 Replies View RelatedRequire help on my windows xp SP2 Harddrive in question : 1 system and 1 boot Installed a game(test drive unlimited) but had a problem and on Securom support page i was told to delete everything in outDevices(Registry Editor) and was told it will be recreated upon reboot.
However,when i rebooted my computer,i was able to pass the POST,but i did not get into the windows boot screen.
I started up the computer, watched the BIOS detect the RAM, hard drive, etc, and then was greeted by a blank screen instead of the Windows boot screen. It proceeded though, and after a few seconds flashed to another black screen, this time displaying the cursor. I'm guessing this is the logon screen, but nothing displays but the cursor. (Note that the video card and monitor are both fine...I tried swapping them out just in case.)

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy sister in law called me for help she has a E Machine T1120 with XP Home its 3 or 4 years old.She was trying to clean out unused and old programs and made the mistake of trying to uninstall MS Money and now she's getting error messages.I told her that XP has a repair function but her recovery cd from emachines dosn't seem to give the repair option it has a choice of reinstall with wipe of hard drive or command line.

Instead, choose to continue the installation When you see the license agreement, press F8 to agree On the next screen make sure your current XP installation is selected and then press "R" to repair XP At this point XP will begin to install on top of itself, replacing damaged, missing or altered system files. Follow the instructions on the remaining screens to complete the Repair Install. It will look very much like a normal (new) OS installation. If all goes well your repaired XP installation will remain iintact, keeping your personalized settings and installed programs as they originally were. Remember, choose the second repair option, not the first.

I tried updating some drivers from Genius Driver Professional 2007 and ran a few setups for the chipset, NVidia driver, and monitor. Well all was well until I rebooted. When I did so the resolution was at 800x600 and 8-bit color. Went around looking for a way to change back to the plug-and-play monitor, but it just faulted with a BSOD.Well I booted up to only read "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM." It directed me to use the Repair CD and use the recovery option, but when I use that I get a BSOD* after I enter "1" for the recovery process so I can't use any commands. I tryed to repair it, but get the same result.I've googled this similar problem and couldn't find a solution. I saw possibilities of taking out my SATA HDD and putting it into a 2nd computer to fix the problem, but my second computer has Vista. Is it possible to fix it this way?
View 14 Replies View RelatedOn yahoo home page was holding mouse over an ad. The computer suddenly crashed and restarted. My husband then got a sudden error message on his computer.
"One of the files containing the System's registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful" You could not get it to go away if you clicked ok. We restarted in manually because you were not able to get into start or any programs at all. I did get it to go away at one point but still could not get into any programs or start menu. I was trying to run an anti virus and also a clean up and fix of registry, but could not.
I purchased the Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop about 2 years ago. It shipped with Vista at the time, but I installed XP on the partition Vista was installed on and have been using it happily ever since. There is a common problem as it turns out, after having read through other forums, that used to exist with Dell laptops, including mine and that is that they would come shipped with the Mediadirect button. When pressed, it supposedly boots the laptop to another partition, which would start up a multimedia software that can playback CDs, DVDs and/or other media files on the accessible storage. The critical and serious issue is that once this button is pressed and you try to turn on the laptop normally again (boot into Windows), it would not boot up, producing the Invalid partition table error at boot-up, suggesting that the former process messes up the boot record somehow.
The same thing happened to me before. A quick suggested fix was to press the button again. While it didn't solve the issue, it at least booted in the right partition, but complained about an ntfs sys file not being there. I solved this myself by repairing the existing Win XP Pro SP3 installation via an XP SP2 CD, which reverted back SP3 to SP2 without much hassle, surprisingly, and Windows booted up normally. I just had to manually update the system to SP3 again using Windows update and that was all. Other software like IE and WMP were also reverted, but reinstalled to the latest version manually.
Everything was running fine with my desktop PC till I turned it on this morning. It booted fine, Windows XP started and I entered my password. My desktop background appeared as standard but i had no taskbar, no start button and i was geting no response from either my right or left mouse buttons from clicking on the screen. I tried to get into task manager by using CTRL+ALT+DEL hoping I could get my explorer processes running again, but nothing happened other than a brief appearance of an egg timer. I powered down and started again hoping it was just a glitch. I was too optimistic. So I tried again, again and again achieving the same results. I had no luck getting into task manager or accessing any functions at all. I assumed that if explorer wasnt providing me with rudimentary functionality and if task manager was refusing to work either my only option was to attempt a repair installation of XP using my Windows setup disk to fix the problems.

Does it only replace the whole hive? Does it do more than replacing damaged hives through recovery console? What system files are affected? I ask because I did a repair installation last week and to my surprise it didn't even touch a windows application data folder which held a .pst file. Which led me to wonder what folders are "repaired", and to what extent. Links are okay. Just so you know I am not looking how to do it. Only what it does.

Towards the end of the installation, the computer rebooted due to a bad battery and the AC was accidently unplugged. Now right when I get into Windows before the login screen, the computer just reboots and I can barely see a flash of a STOP BSOD error but don't have any time to read it. I can get into safe mode and do stuff. I tried reinstalling the software and drivers but it gives me an error. I can't uninstall anything because it doesn't see anything installed. What can I do? Its a USB printer BTW.

Here's the problem. When I open Network Connections icon in the Control Panel and click the New Connection Wizard, the "Connect using a dial-up modem" option is grayed out and can't be clicked. More specifically, during the repair installation process I am presented with this error message:"Files Needed The file 'asms' on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK. Copy files from: D: . . . " Note that the Windows XP DVD includes Service Pack 2. Also note that when the error message presents, the CD-ROM essentially goes dead.

Well I go through the usual steps until I get to registering components where it goes for about a minute and then restarts. I thought thats what its suppose to do so I wait and wait and it goes through the whole process over so I go through it about 10 times before I realize something is wrong. So I go on my brother's laptop and look up whats wrong and I try opening the comand prompt by pressing shift+F10 and then typing "control sysdm.cpl" to get to the system in the control panel

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn response to this I attempted to use System Restore. This failed, for some reason after selecting the restore date, clicking next did nothing. I then decided to go on a deleting spree, removing all unnecessary folders, programs etc. Somewhere along the line I must not have been paying attention and deleted the i386 folder. Of course, all hell broke loose and I couldnt even log into any users be it safe mode or not (I got automatically logged out).
Now to the real problem: The setup gets to 34 minutes remaining and encounters some problems while installing devices. A number of pop up messages appear, After that last pop-up, the keyboard and mouse promptly freeze, and a final pop-up appears replacing the italics line with "Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem". Unfortunately I now cant click yes or no, and therefore cant continue with the setup.

View 14 Replies View RelatedDue to several fundamental errors in my Windows installation, today I decided to make a repair install of my Windows XP Home installation. I booted into my Windows disc, did all the normal stuff, and it seemed to go fine. At the end of the text-based stuff, it gave me the instruction to reboot, having moved the files it needed to the HDD, I believe. Anyway, the jist is that the text-based stuff seemed to go fine, I rebooted as instructed, and then did NOT click to boot from the CD (which, I believe, was the right choice). I let Windows load normally but... no GUI based stuff came up to finish off the repair installation, and consequently, what I've done seems to have had no effect whatsoever.

I was away from home for about a week and left the machine plugged into the mains but powered down. When I returned home to boot up, it kept doing things like constantly hanging on parts of the bios POST screen, eventually booting up after thirty or so complete restarts. It finally booted into windows but after the last shutting down, it will now not boot up at all. I have replaced the bios battery and reset the bios several times.

Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently.
I have used Norton Partition Magic 8 recently to resize my partitions.
I have just installed some anti virus software and during installation I got messages saying my registry had been damaged and i should log onto such-and-such site to download repair software and run it on my system. I am suspicious that if I do this I am exposing myself to total destruction. One of the messages has just popped up again and the site it directs me to is FixReg32.com.
View 2 Replies View RelatedProblems started was when i updated my Zone Alarm firewall, windows works absolutely fine no problems what so ever, then next time i reboot it does the same, this time problems are non-stop until about 10% then fine from there on in, then when it finishes repairing the drive it gets stuck at repairing unreadable security descriptions date stream.
It also said whilst recovering orphaned files insufficient disk space to recover lost files. It stopped for a while then carried on. After scan disk it restarted and wouldn't load windows, just got stuck on windows loading screen forever, eventually 15+ minutes i pressed reset as there was no disk activity.
I recently reloaded windows XP and there is no button on the Start Menu to allow me to log out and swap to another user.

But, now i have the same problem with the new hard drive. After a while, i realize that obviously, if the disk was cloned, ONLY the information that can be copied was transfered to the other one.In conclusion, how can I resolve this issue without using system repair. the problem is that once i use this tool and then IE won't work. at last I had to format the drive.

finally moving the files i want to keep back from the d: drive onto the c: drive.The problem i'm now having is on formatting i recieve the error message 'system partition is not allowed to be formatted', as it is the primary partition. Can i go about formatting this drive in partitions and proceed with the re-install without having to remove the files i have on the d: drive? How might i go about this?
