Auotpatcher 2000 Wont Open File Formats?
Feb 3, 2007
I used to run winXP home, but had so many problems that I reverted back to win2000 pro."Autopatcher 2k has it, along with almost every update imaginable. I'm running Win2k SP4 and I most certainly am running Windows Movie maker..just Google Autopatcher 2000 and get the August 2006 Full edition. However, the verison is 1.2.3 and does not support many formats(no FLV, MKV or OGM love)Just fire up autopatcher, deselect everything except "windows Movie maker" under "Windows Addons". "
Now, I have downloaded the autopacher 2000, but have not opened the file yet, becuase I wanted to double check with you guys and gals to see if this sounded legit. I really dont want to mess up my system, becuase its running real strong with no problems. The only thing I want out of the patcher is the movie maker. Please let me know if you have heard of this autopatcher 2000 before, and if this sollution sounds viable to what I'm trying to do.

I just upgraded my very tired old Compaq Presario 7598 from 98SE to XP home edition, somehow I lost Word 2000. Prior to the upgrade I saved all my important docs to an external Buslink hard drive. Now when I try to view my stuff it says I need Word 2000. When I put the disk in it asks for the numbers off the jewel case, I don't have these as it came as bundled software when I originally bought the computer. Compaq is being of no help!! Someone out there help me with the numbers or tell me what to do!! I need access to my stuff!--Tks--Steve tradaba@yahoo.com stevenh@skylands.net

I am at work on one of the computers on their network. This machine is used my three or four people so how the problem started is just a guess. Word, Excel, Power point all open with "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional." If I try to open any file I created in the past, the same thing happens. I thought I would run scanner but apparently that command does not work.

I have a Western Digital 250 GIG external hard drive. It is formatted to FAT 32, came that way out of the box.My brother in law suggested that I should have formatted it before I started using it and suggested that I use NTFS format. I know why it came pre-formatted as FAT 32 because that is compatible with both Apple and PC. I now have the hard disk space that I can re-format this external drive and not loose any of the files on it. My question is, what format should I use? FAT 32 or NTFS? I don't plan on hooking this drive up to an Apple, so I am leaning toward NTFS. Plus, I believe that NTFS can handle the "extra information" of all my MP3 files which is also leaning my decision towards NTFS.

For sometime now,I have been unable to get thumbnails to work for most video formats.avi is the only one that shows thumbs.mov, .mpg, .mpeg, .mpeg4,show only icons.mov shows QT icon, and the rest show WMP icon. I USED to have thumbs, but not for while.Yes, Thumbnails is selected under view. And I have already checked the ShellEx registry key under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmpegfile and it is setup correctly. I also ran a script to reset thumbnail views Quote:Restore Thumbnail Views in XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm So far, NOTHING has worked.

I am using Windows XP Pro, all updates applied. In "Regional and Language Options", in the Regional Options tab, under "Standards and formats" I have "English (United Kingdom)".In the Advanced tab under "Language for non-Unicode programs" I also have "English (United Kingdom)".I regularly use a utility that compares discs, folders and files and gives a side-by-side report of the differences. This program is called "Beyond Compare 2" (BC2). This program is non-Unicode and does not work well with file names containing Thai characters, or files containing Thai characters.I investigated the problem and have installed Microsoft's "AppLocale" program:Quote: The AppLocale utility allows users to run a legacy application without changing to the code-page/system locale needed by that particular application.

I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Seems like a simple thing, but I can't get XP to understand that's what I want.

I have recently installed this OS on the PC I'm using right now, it used to have Win ME, which is probably by far the worst Windows that has ever existed. The PC runs way better than it used to overall, but I do have one big **** of a problem: I recieve an error message that says "can't find the specified file" when I try to install a program. Programs I've tried to install:
Adobe Reader
Winzip
W2KSP4 (service pak 4)
Windows installer 3.1
And a few more.
Basically anything that has to be extracted or self-extracts. Could this be a problem with the temporary folder, or not enough RAM? (128 MB) Also: I have saved all this programs on the hard drive, I'm not running them from a network, the internet, or any other drive. Keep in mind that I can't install winzip or winrar so I can't use them to fix any problems. I've scanned the hard drive for errors (complete surface scan), ran virus and spyware checks... I have Spyware Doctor and AVG Free antivirus installed on my PC, I don't know if either could be interfering with my PC's performance.

Tonight I tried opening a chm file and it failed, with that error message. This happens for any chm file I have tried. I don't know when this broke, I know I used to be able to open chm files with no trouble but I can't pinpoint the last time it worked.I've searched around and found some references to this, but no solution -the only relevant MSKB is for Win98. I tried regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx, deleting the hh.dat files, clearing IE's file cache; nothing has helped. I haven't made any significant recent changed to the system that I can think of.

I had to put windows 2000 on my moms PC, which is part of a network, and now EVERY computer on the Network sees an "Internet Gateway". WHY???? The only computer that can see shared files is my moms with the windows 2000. theres 3 more computers all running windows xp. how do i fix this? File sharing is now available, but I myself believe the internet is being slowed down. THe Internet gateway that windows XP is picking up is reading 8.0 mbps. My connection has gotten as high as like almost 2, but it should not read that.

All of the other jpg's will not view. They will not view in thumbnails, in Firefox, in Paintshop Pro, In Windows Office Picture Manager, in Freshview or in Paint. Can somebody please help, these are cherished photos. The file sizes seem to be the same as ever. (ie some 12K some 159K etc)When I try to load them into Paint Shop Pro I get the message - "The specified file cannot be identified as a supported type".When I try to open them in Microsoft Office Picture Manager I get the view of a little square with a red X in it.When I try to open them with Firefox I get the message "cannot be displayed, because it contains errors".When I try to open them as thumbnails in Explorer I just get a square with a little red X in the middle.

Am I right in thinking that they are both pretty similar except that server has support for multiple processors and extra network related tools and facilities. The reason I ask is that if a piece of software works on Windows 2000 server, is it extremely likely that it will work on Windows 2000 professional too? As a bit of background information: I work for a small company which supplies temperature monitoring equipment which needs to be networked. I've been told that it has been tested on Windows 2000 server but not on Window 2000 professional.

I am receiving an error message which states that a file is open and that I should close all applications ect. I have nothing running that I can see. The error says that "C:windowsapppatchdrvmain.sdb is open or application is running. I have tried to delete and replace the file with another copy located in an other subdriectory. When I double click on the problem file I get message that I can't open it. However, when I click on the copy in another folder I get a different message. When I try to delete or copy it the message is sdb files can not be copied or deleted. It seems that I must have something going wrong. I do notice when my computer is idle, it isn't. The harddrive goes crazy and when I check the preformace area in the task manager it shows high usage.

For some reason now, whenever I try to RIGHT click on ANY of my file types, and do a OPEN WITH, I come up with the following message, "This file doesn't have a program associated with it, for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel". Except that when I go there, there IS a program associated with the particular file type. Example: .jpg files, I have Microsoft photo editor, Paint Shop Pro 7, and Picassa, installed. I used to be able to RIGHT click on a .jpg file, and then go to "open with" and it would give me a list of installed programs to choose from. NOW I get the above error. Now, I DO use a registry cleaner, could I have damaged something? and how do I get it back?
