View 7 RepliesHaving recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.

View 7 Replies View Related3 months ago I installed Service Pak2. Prior to the installation Windows Media Player9 had been running flawlessly on my system. After Installation, however I have been totally unable to get Windows Media Player to open. I downloaded Version 10 of Windows Media Player and installed it but again I was unable to get it to open. I cleared all traces of WMP from registry and turned off system restore and then re installed WMP10. Still would not open and the system will not permit me to use version 9 anymore.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using winXP and have been for a while without problems. In an instant, while online, doing a file transfer my PC manfested the following problems:
1. Booting up takes alot longer now and once im at the login screen it takes an even greater amount of time to load my profile. it sticks at the loading personal settings message for a while, then once it gets past there it takes a few minutes to load my desktop.
2. I can not open some programs like Media Player. The Error ' can not perform operation-memory too low' appears. In addition i can not access any system tools or programs eg. Help and Support
My data files seem to be fine along with all the other non-system related content on my computer.
3. I can not open my internet connection. It seems to be stuck in connected state even after restarting my computer.(I use a dial-up)
To try and solve ths i tried to get into my network places and modems in the control panel but when i tried i got error messages -something to do with 'network places and telephony services may not be activated, activate them and try again.'Another intersesting issue is that my taskbar has changed and looks like a windows 2000 taskbar now and functions slightly differntly than before. In fact my whole OS looks a bit differnt now.
I cannot seem to find any codec other than 3vix to play these m4a files. That was fine until the demo ran out. Is there a free codec or am I forced to buy a codec (just seems principly wrong). Or maybe some kind of converter?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the past I have had no problem playing video files on my Windows Media player 10. Now, all of a sudden I cannot see the video but I can hear the sound. This is also the case with the two other players I use - Real and VLC. Having discovered the problem, I have downloaded some codecs from http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Co...k_download.htm in case the codecs are corrupt but it makes no difference.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn my Dell Inspiron 700 laptop, (with intel integrated graphics) wmp crashes when playing wmv files. The laptop is running windows xp home with sp2. I have no problems using winamp playing .wmv files. I have tried upgrading to IE7 and installing Windows Media Player 11 and it does not resolve it. I even tried uninstalling wmp 11, and then uninstalling/re-installing windows media player 10 and it still doesn't fix the problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running windows XPSP3 with windows media player 11. For some reason I cannot play wmv or avi files. I get the audio but no video. This is true for any media player that I have tried. I have re installed both the media player and windows to no avail. I have checked the codecs and seem to have the most common ones (see below) I ran GSpot on one of the files and it said that I had the proper codec, yet it still won't play. I am sure it is a setting problem of some sort , but don't know where. Can you give me any help?

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive recently got corrupted and I had to install WP XP Home, instead of XP Professional that I had previously. After installation and downloading WMP, I was unable to play any MPEG files that previously worked. WMP gives me the following error - C00D11B1. Even the files thumbnails dont look the same (currently look like generic files). However, the MPEGs work fine when I play them in Quicktime and even iTunes. I downloaded/bought a plug-in from the WMP website which I think gives me MPEG-2 decoder/DVD software etc. However, I think that relates to DVD play etc, while I am more concerned about the videos from my Sony Digital Camera which still dont work. Am I missing any drivers etc that I need to download? Btw music files work fine, and this only relates to videos.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having some major issues with multimedia files, namely if I try to play any mpg files on either my WMP or an ATI Multimedia player, my player crashes immediately and I get the standard windows XP error and report it but the windows explorer window also closes with the same type of windows error and reports the problem.
I can only assume this is a result from a "phantom" jpg file I found in a folder this week. The file was "anchored" in a folder in my documents, I say anchored because I was unable to delete/rename/copy/cut/drag and drop/etc. the jpg. Again, I'm only calling it a jpg as it showed a jpg icon although no image was displayed in the preview window and when I selected properties under the file menu, it showed no information, no description, nothing, it even showed 0 kb, although I seem to recall it showed perhaps 82kb when listed in the folder. I was able to finally delete the file by deleting the file folder it was stored in, but it did not undo the damage I mentioned above. Prior to figuring out how to delete the file I ran Adaware, Spybot S&D, Norton, and Ewido and they found nothing out of the ordinary. I also posted an HJT log here and was told it appeared to be clean.
So, when I saw the "debugger" link, I found PCRescue and installed and ran it. Of course I knew it would find lots of errors over 700 but would only delete about 22 in only two registries "windows startup" and "file extensions" Is it worth paying for the full version or is this problem something much more alarming. Lastly, I occassionally see a window informing me DrWatson Debugger needs to be closed, I never installed DrWatson and when I tried to Uninstall it using the control panel, I find no listing there.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAt some point, in the last week, or so, I started to download this program. Within seconds, my computer froze. I could not back out of the download or even shut down from the START menu. I had to do so manually.Ever since, I see two boxes on Start-up: one says "TrayApp" and asks me to insert a CD-rom disk to access the program. Another says "Error 1706" and that no valid source can be found for TrayApp product. Every so often, I see a screen asking me to insert a disk for Viewpoint Media Player. My CD-rom drive is not functioning, so I couldn't do that, in any case, even if I had the disk.
