View 8 RepliesHaving recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the past I have had no problem playing video files on my Windows Media player 10. Now, all of a sudden I cannot see the video but I can hear the sound. This is also the case with the two other players I use - Real and VLC. Having discovered the problem, I have downloaded some codecs from http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Co...k_download.htm in case the codecs are corrupt but it makes no difference.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn my Dell Inspiron 700 laptop, (with intel integrated graphics) wmp crashes when playing wmv files. The laptop is running windows xp home with sp2. I have no problems using winamp playing .wmv files. I have tried upgrading to IE7 and installing Windows Media Player 11 and it does not resolve it. I even tried uninstalling wmp 11, and then uninstalling/re-installing windows media player 10 and it still doesn't fix the problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running windows XPSP3 with windows media player 11. For some reason I cannot play wmv or avi files. I get the audio but no video. This is true for any media player that I have tried. I have re installed both the media player and windows to no avail. I have checked the codecs and seem to have the most common ones (see below) I ran GSpot on one of the files and it said that I had the proper codec, yet it still won't play. I am sure it is a setting problem of some sort , but don't know where. Can you give me any help?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive recently got corrupted and I had to install WP XP Home, instead of XP Professional that I had previously. After installation and downloading WMP, I was unable to play any MPEG files that previously worked. WMP gives me the following error - C00D11B1. Even the files thumbnails dont look the same (currently look like generic files). However, the MPEGs work fine when I play them in Quicktime and even iTunes. I downloaded/bought a plug-in from the WMP website which I think gives me MPEG-2 decoder/DVD software etc. However, I think that relates to DVD play etc, while I am more concerned about the videos from my Sony Digital Camera which still dont work. Am I missing any drivers etc that I need to download? Btw music files work fine, and this only relates to videos.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor months I had no problem ripping cd's and playing the music on WMP10. Suddenly the system will no longer do either. Clicking on any of the listed songs results in other music playing which, obviously was not affected. I might add that listed number of times previously played were all erased. Has a new policeman for copyrighted music shown up somehow?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAt some point, in the last week, or so, I started to download this program. Within seconds, my computer froze. I could not back out of the download or even shut down from the START menu. I had to do so manually.Ever since, I see two boxes on Start-up: one says "TrayApp" and asks me to insert a CD-rom disk to access the program. Another says "Error 1706" and that no valid source can be found for TrayApp product. Every so often, I see a screen asking me to insert a disk for Viewpoint Media Player. My CD-rom drive is not functioning, so I couldn't do that, in any case, even if I had the disk.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI use Windows Media Player 10 as my primary media player. But I like to keep Real Player and QuickTime quietly waiting in the wings and call upon them occasionally. Well, I got the latest version of the Real player and clipped its wings so it wouldn't take over every audio and video file i have. Then downloaded the latest QuickTime player (after uninstalling the old one.) Every time an attempt is made to install the QuickTime player after 11 or so seconds into the process it stops and gives me this little message: "1607: Unable to install Installshield Scripting Runtime."
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my machine without any problems and decided to upgrade media player to version 10. I then installed the latest updates from microsoft and restarted. Now everytime I try and use internet explorer or media player I get a window open up that states that the programs have encoutered a problem and that I can send an error report or dont send. if i click on the dont send option the program shuts down. I can pull the error message away from the explorer window and still use interent explorer but this isnt right. It only
seems to have started since the updates were installed.
I just received a pop-up without any way of closing it. This is bizarre to me. It is staying on top of all open files and is waiting for me to approve the update. It reads this way: (Blue column to the left with an eye-shaped logo and the word Viewpoint. The white section to the right says: You have been Updated. Your Viewpoint Media Player was recently updated with the latest components to enhance your web viewing. A new browser update is recommended, including advanced pop-up blocking and graphically enhanced search. Then there is a clickable button saying "Update" Below that there is a note that says: Note: There is NO Restart required. It gives another clickable button that says More Info and a line that says Who is Viewpoint? This takes you to a description which includes the "fact" that they are a NASDAQ company that provides internet graphics and delivery technology to Fortune 500 companies including AOL, GE, GM, etc. This did not make me feel better.
