All Programs Missing
Jan 20, 2005I booted on this morning ready to update a driver. Before doing that I wanted to set a system restore point. I clicked Start, All Programs then noticed that all but a few programs were not listed.

Installed Programs Are Missing In Add Remove Programs
Sep 8, 2006Just did an upgrade install of Win2k on a Win98SE system. I've had this computer for ages and did not want to do a clean install.The upgrade went fine except for one problem.In my add/remove program section all of my previously installed programs are missing.They were not deleted, just missing from add/remove.How do I restore these programs back into the add/remove program section?

Aug 3, 2008I've reinstalled XP and some icons are missing from the "Start"/"all programs" menu. Both Outlook Express and Internet Explorer are missing. I was able to locate them using "search" then open and pin to start menu. (The search function displays i.e. shortcuts for "administrator", "guest" and the other user, but not for me. The icons do display on the "all programs" list for the other user). Any suggestions as to how to get them back on the "all programs" menu?

I checked and made sure I was logged onto my account and not the guest one. I restarted the computer hoping that everything would just be normal again but instead after watching a black screen for 5 minutes got this message:"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:<Windows root>system32hal.dll Please re-install a copy of the above file."

Nov 27, 2006usually whenever i run programs the shortcuts would be left on my start menu. so say after running several programs, like for example, adobe audition, divx player and ccleaner, on the start menu would appear the programs which had just been recently run.if i right click the start menu and go to customize, i can select the number or programs to be displayed on my start menu.so yup, usually the recently run programs would display but then it disappears like it emptied itself from the menu.so my question being is, whats up with my start menu and why does the recently run programs list keep disappearing.

Mar 26, 2008There was recently a problem with my internet connection in my community as it was out for a day. When I was able to get back online, there are all sorts of problems with my McAfee (i.e. I all of a sudden have no virus protection and I can't reinstall it). Also, when I go to add/remove programs, there is nothing there. Other programs are still installed in my computer and the only one I seem to be having a problem with is the McAfee, but I can't even view a list of programs that are installed on my computer. What could be causing this problem? and How can I get my computer back to normal? Is this some sort of virus?I've tried restoring my computer to different dates, and it hasn't seemed to change anything. I'm running Windows XP operating system.

There is no Change/Remove button in Add/Remove Programs but the program is there, 150 MB, and the file suggested on the HP website for uninstalling older printers from XP produces a message that it's "unsupported" can't remember exact verbiage, been a while since last tried. Even reinstalled in the hopes that a message would come up to the effect "this program is already installed, do you want install to remove it prior to completing this install," but it just installs the printer again with a number after it ... I'm up to "hp officejet g series - 3."

My registry is somehow holding onto this old program even though it does not really exist on my C-drive. I am trying to reinstall the program properly but when I finish the installation, Windows XP will not let me open it! It says my file path is invalid, apparently a reference to the "ghost version" of the program that I cannot get rid of! Feb 18, 2010I just stumbled on this website while looking for a solution to my problem with Norton Ghost. Another problem that I am having is: When I go to add/remove programs, there are NO programs. The message says to wait while the list is being populated but nothing ever shows up. From what I have read, it sounds like a registry problem but I don't have a clue how to fix it. Microsoft's answer is way over my head. I tried registry mechanic but that didn't help.
