Increase Size Of Buffer For Downloading Streaming Movies
Apr 5, 2009
how do i do it without upgrading my broadband subscription bandwidth/speed currently at 256k download? i watch streaming movies from netflix which currently re-buffers about every 15 minutes and takes about 8 minutes to buffer the next segment before resuming movie play.
I'm running windows XP Pro 64 I have good specs on this machine, an i7 quad, 12 gig of ram and an edirol UA 101 (usb) sound card. But whenever I open and close an app (well most apps) with any other audio devices running (Windows media player or my Daw FL studio for example) I get severe buffer underruns and my whole system stutters very badly until the apps have finnished their startup, during their startup process any audio playing becomes extremly distorted.
I'd like to find a permanent solution to this problem, a few things that have worked so far were, 1 using a pci sound card an e-mu 0404 (That helped) but I no longer have this card, the second solution was to raise my buffer size way up to arround 30 ms or over, obviously this is not a desirable workaround as this card can run quite happily at latancies between 3-6 ms which I need it to do during normal audio processing tasks such as running my Daw. So, it occured to me that isolating all the audio processes to a single CPU core might stop the distortion/interuption of the audio signal that I'm expieriencing, but from here on I'm a little stumped, I can't find any trace of any processes that are linked to my sound card, or any audio devices at all infact, none of them show up in my task manager. Isolating the apps themselves didn't work, isolating the sound card seems impossible, am I perhaps barking up the wrong tree here?
I have 160GB hard disk in which I have Windows XP installed in C drive(25GB). My E: drive is another primary partition(35GB). Rest of the partitions are made extended, in which F: (40GB), I40GB) are logical drives. The balance 20GB is a free space under the extended partition in which no logical drive is made. My system has become slow, because the system drive C: has very low amount free space available. So I thought of getting above 20GB free space to C: so that it would be 45GB overall. How can I expand C: drive? I have partition magic installed on my PC.
I have two partitions, Drive C and Drive D. My drive C is full but I have alot of memory on D. Can I increase the size of C by allocating the memory from D without formating my computer?

I tried to increase the size of my C drive by deleting the D drive partition. The D drive was deleted but the C drive size appears the same. How can I now increase the size of the C drive to fully occupy the space that the D drive previously took up. I would like to end up with one large C drive and no partition.

This is a sudden development - although I haven't installed anything new or made any changes recently.I can increase the font size on the screen OK, but whatever I print is still the same tiny sized printout on paper. Appreciate some help and advice as to how to make my printout readable

Last night I reformatted my laptop with my XP disk. it was just that time to clean out the hard drive something that I've done many times. But some weird things happened.1- It never asked me to type in my XP Key 2- when it finally installed some things seemed to be overlooked. Like the drivers. When windows restarted and came up normally the screen was set to 640x480 at 16 bit and wont let me make it larger. I went into the adv tab to see if i could update the driver but the properties button under the monitor type was grayed out. This along with other hardwares on my computer never installed. I tried the recovery cd after that to install the drivers but nothing helped. It seems like the plug-play never was activated.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I was told to increase my pagefile size to 1.5GB because I was having problems with the game Sacred locking up whenever I exported a character from bronze to silver mode. How do I do this???? I have never changed this before and if I do change it what effect will it have on my computer????
How do I increase the size of the minimize, resize and close icons without also increasing the size of the icons on the task bar? I can go into Advanced Settings Properties in the Screen Settings and increase the size of the Active Title Bar, but that also increases the size of the icons in the task bar. Take a look at the pics below. The first shows the Active Title Bar smaller and then increased in size in the second
After i ran some programs in safe mode to get rid of viruses, this message came up when rebooting into normal mode."Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Buffer overrun detected program:C:WindowExplorer.Exe A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated. After clicking ok, the desktop icons disappear, then return, and the message occurs again. Does anyone know what this means.

Sorry to start a new thread but my old one will not come up on my computer. I have HP Media and I am running XP. My drive will not read the movies and every disc I put in there reads blank. If I right click on the drive, it shows that there is nothing on the disc twhen in fact there is. I did a restore to an earlier date before the problem as recommended and that did not fix the problem. Also, when I push the button to open the drive door, it opens and closes and doesn't stay open as it should. Everything was fine one day and then the next day for no reason, the drive is malfunctioning. I hope it is something simple and will not require a new drive.
I'm stumped. About a month ago I came into possession of a home-built P4 3.0Ghz box. Only thing is, it lags playing movies (DivX, I definatley have the codecs installed), and is useless for Photoshop (even zooming in and out lags horrifically). It feels like a problem dealing with graphics (but I'm no expert)System (as from Belarc

Ok. So I am streaming video and just doing my usual when suddenly my screen does a quick flicker and the video stops running,I try reloading the page and then I get a BSOD. I was guessing it was a video card issue but everything else runs just fine,my drivers are updated to the newest version all I can do is scratch my head and ponder. Like I said this only happens when I am streaming video. Never had this problem before. Had this box for over a year and this is the first issue I had with it.
