Cust. jumplist with Windows 8 tools. CMD is of course one of the programs in it, but I can't get it to open in elevated mode?
Using the program "JumplistCreator" I have made my list, but it can't use shortcuts, it starts the tool/program directly, and therefore the trick by selecting "Admin" in the shortcut don't work.
I _can_ add parameters to the given program name, but I don't know the parameter to give to cmd.exe for it to run in "Admin" mode. How can I do that?
Problem. Video card keeps being disabled error code 43 - Display adapotor Nvidia GEForce 0500M GS (laptop)
I Uninstall all Nvidiva programs. Run a driver wiper, do a custom install from mfg site (Just Graphics Driver) I'm not a gamer anymore. Everything works fine for a week or two and then the card get error 43
I've blow out the dust, the computer since new has been on a fan cooled stand.
Given that the video card is part of mother board replacement isn't realistic. other options might be to reload windows
Go into dos and run "sfc /scannow" if it asks for a CD, windows is corrupted. My problem with this option is that when I enter DOS on Win 8 Pro I am told I must run SFC commands as the administrator. I am the admin, the only name registered on this computer.
How to elevate status to admin. on Win 8 pro or resolution to graophics issues
I recently got a new computer and I will be giving my computer away to a friend, but the problem is I don't know how to make her the admin. She has a live email already so I just want to switch my login information to hers. I already moved all my files and folders to my new computer.
I seem to be having a problem when command prompt needs to run anything as an admin.
This happens whenever it feels it needs to do so, like when setting a program to run as admin myself, or running an installer, like the setup for firefox (I'm in chrome right now, but I happen to prefer firefox)
Basically, whenever it needs to run anything, it'll open up to the user account controls window in this picture:
Upon clicking yes, it opens the command prompt you see in the left of the image for a split second, then closes. (it took many attempts to get a clear shot using printscreen, and I did edit it to have the UAC prompt in the same image to save space)
I'm guessing a manual regedit of some kind, as running any program is obviously blocked by the problem itself. (I cannot install any fixing programs, and anything that needs to run as admin to work is out as well).
I need to execute the command prompt as admin. When I try to do it the command prompt window doesn't open and there are no errors. If I run the command prompt without admin privs it works, but I then can't do what I need to do in the admin window.
I'm stuck. I ran Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant prior to installing Win 8. According to the report I needed to delete Intel(R) Pro Network Connection 12.1.12, which I did.
I upgraded to Win 8 but now I have no permissions. I'll looked at all the threads about opening a cmd windows, which I can, but since I logon to the O/S with just user level permissions I can't issue any admin level apps. I can't even navigate to my C: drive. I get 'Access is denied'.
I'm tried right-clicking on the Command Prompt and 'Run as Administrator', nothing. Which makes sense since I'm logon on with only User rights.
I need full admin rights. I can't update my HOSTS file which really screws up my FTP and Telnet sessions.
I cannot logon as administrator, so I can't change anything. Should I reinstall??
for some reason a lot of the servers im lately getting from leaceweb have something wrong with there OS the build in admin account is constantly getting asked to do things as an admin like this
I am the ONWER of my PC and should aloud to edit whatever files I want, but windows knows best so fine... ok... I enabled access to the hidden admin account. Because our user accounts that say admin is a way for windows to make us think we are system admins when we arnt. Every guide in the world says once the hidden admin account is enabled it will have no login password... mine does... what do I do? This PC is fresh out of the box no password was set. I need access to the hidden admin account unless this hidden admin is someone who payed for this PC and didnt tell me? Then Id assume I have the right to use my admin account on the PC.
I'm trying to set up a dual boot system with Windows 8, (already installed on a new laptop), and Win 7.
Following instructions from a forum thread I got as far as downloading oscdimg.exe into the Win7_ISO directory.
However whatever I try, full path, etc., I get this error Code: oscdimg.exe : The term 'oscdimg.exe' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operableprogram. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.
The command I am trying to run is Code: PS C:Win7 ISO> oscdimg -w4 -os -lWin_7_x64_UEFI_ISO9660 -m -o -n -pEF -e -bc:Win7 ISOefimicrosoftootefisys.bin c:Win7 ISO c:Win_7_x64_UEFI_ISO9660.iso
How can I delete admin account which I have created by accident? My main account is live account and I don't want any other accounts on my laptop. Is this possible or I have to reinstall Windows?
Also, how can I manage for my main account to have all permissions?
I can not log into my account..I am using the right password. I used the machine earlier, then came back and it would not accept the password. The pop up said..."can not log onto account at this time..see liveacount.com to fix any problems"...or something like that.
The computer turns on fine...I can log onto the other accounts.
I have my live account password....
Can I create another Admin account to take off the password to that admin account??
My son decided to give my mother his new (then) PC...She has a slow dial up and in the transition of adding her as admin and deleting him the network failed long enough to not allow her admin status to take effect but oddly enough allowing him to be deleted as admin....no big deal I thought (clueless as to the throttling grip MS has added to 8)...to date,I have tried everything to resolve this issue but foiled at every turn.
Problem is the YES button is never highlighted in every event to add an admin password.I have followed pretty much most "solutions" only to be be mocked at the finish line with no YES button.
By the by...I have since bought the Princess Bride and myself laptops each with Windows 8 and was quite happy until I upgraded to 8.1 and lost my desktop pic...???? Bizarre...goneski...and after searching forever found the pix in some obscure folder not of my making...What is this dark majic you dabble in Mister Gates?
I recently formatted my computer, installing Windows 8. And I realized one of my HDDs was acting weird. It doesn't allow Chrome to save files, it asks for UAC permissions when I try to delete, move or rename files. I looked it up, decided it was about ownership and permissions. Permissions were already set, full control. But ownership was wrong so I fixed it, rebooted my computer and problem still persists at the moment.
When I right click and go to the properties of a folder, it says "Read only". When I uncheck it and Apply, it "applies" it to the subfolders with a loading bar but it still remains "Read only".
I am trying to elevate a command given (in this case just another cmd.exe) if the user is not admin. However i get the error:
Code:
C:Usersmetul_000>runas /user:administrator cmd.exe Enter the password for administrator: Attempting to start cmd.exe as user "WINDOWS8administrator" ... RUNAS ERROR: Unable to run - cmd.exe 1326: The user name or password is incorrect. C:Usersmetul_000>
This is a personal pc, and I know i put in the password correctly as i have done it a few times slowly typing in my admin password to confirm that it is input correctly. So why am i getting this error? Initially my overall goal is to get this python script to say you are admin ...
Code: import ctypes import subprocess import sys import os
[Code] ......
if you are admin its done, but if you are not admin then it reruns itself with the so called run as command to get admin rights. However currently it just pulls up the run as usage messages. The full command this script attempts to run then is:
Code: C:Usersmetul_000>runas /user:administrator "python3 test2.py" Enter the password for administrator: Attempting to start python3 test2.py as user "WINDOWS8administrator" ... RUNAS ERROR: Unable to run - python3 test2.py 1326: The user name or password is incorrect. C:Usersmetul_000>
At present I cannot run any program installer except by right clicking and choosing 'Run as Administrator'.
This has happened twice recently and the cause is totally unknown to me. I have just recently re-installed everything afresh, and this morning I have got the same problem - I clicked on an installer and the following error message popped up:
Unable to execute file in temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied.
I've been trying a couple of times to upgrade from 8 to 8.1 but every time I try to upgrade it via the STORE, it says that I dont have admin rights even though im the admin. I checked other sites and it says that I need to uninstall a certain file but the file is not present in my laptop.
I remember that Win XP has the Default Hidden Admin Account that is created when you install the OS and also by default it's not password secured which can be a security issue. By doing a quick search, apparently Win 8 also have this Default Hidden Admin Account.
When in Windows 8 I verify the available created users I see an Admin account. Is this account the 'hidden' one, but made visible?
I also did the prompt cmd: net user administrator /active:yes, but I get a msg saying that there is 'no' user under the name 'administrator' ... maybe the admin user I'm seeing is a microsoft account, not a local account?
I have accidentally changed the admin account to a local user and now cannot make any changes to my laptop. I am using an ASUS brand and when I click on manage user accounts it pops up with a screen "connect smart card".
I was a Windows 7 user and yesterday I installed Win 8.1 Pro, which I purchased almost a month ago, just didn't have the time to install (it was better that I didn't have any time) and since then I can't figure out lot of things, one of which is really disgusting. See that my mom and I use the same laptop, she uses it on morning and I at night.
And thus I created two user accounts, for example mine is A and my mom's is B. Now when I turn on the lappy it goes straight into my account, without even asking to which I want login! Where on Windows 7 after the welcome screen always there was an option of two accounts, but story has changed. So what should I do to get it back like it was on Seven? I just want each time I reboot the machine there must be an option of both accounts, and I will choose where I wanna login.
Both accounts of my mom and mine are set as admin.
In Windows 8 Pro x64 (and now with 8.1) shortly after installing Windows I couldn't run any installer from a web browser or by just double-clicking the file. I have to right-click and "Run as administrator"
The error messages vary but they all are variations on a theme of unable to access something.
I usually have UAC off but the UAC setting doesn't matter. I am an administrator. I am using Start8 and ModernMix if it matters. I've Googled and found nothing that worked but I don't remember exactly what I've tried.
On a new Windows 8 Installation, I created a local non/domain user. The first user is the "magical" user.
Then I added the domain user and made sure it was an Administrator, both on the Metro settings and on the Desktop. At least, if I go in now and look, it claims to be an Administrator.
Then I joined the company domain and that seemed to work OK. And then I made the account a Microsoft Account type user.
Now, whenever I install a program, it wants Admin Credentials. I put in the Domain Admin credentials and that works to install the program. But this happens over and over again, as I am moving from Windows7 to Windows 8.
I read that any secondary users cannot install programs without being changed into an Administrator. Well, I did that, but it still does the same thing.
Since I am part ways through my switch to Windows 8, I would rather not start over again, if there is some way to fix this, although I don't want to disable UAC either. It just seems like I should be recognized as an Admin and yet I'm not.
Lenovo Z580 Windows 8 Pro 1 single HDD split into 2 partitions, 1 for windows / program files, the other (data) for my data / downloads etc. 1 User account (administrator)
This began happening about a week ago, i first noticed it when i tried to download a file via Google Chrome, when i tried to save the file to my HDD (a 2nd partition on my disk) chrome told me I don't have permissions to save to this folder and that i should try to save it to user/downloads/ instead.
Since then I've found I am no longer able to write to that partition without either being prompted for elevated privs or being denied totally.
For example:
Download a file from the internet with chrome/firefox/IE Extracting rar/zips files via right-click (i have to open them in winrar, and extract manually) Create a folder in explorer: "Destination folder access denied", "You need confirm this operation"
I have UAC Settings are set to "Never Notify"
I've tried taking Ownership of every file/folder on my data drive I've uninstalled all software (there where 3 applications installed since this started happening) I've removed all windows updates since this started happening
I forgot my builtin admin password and somehow my user is a standard user, i cannot do anything. Is there any way to reset admin password or to change it? I have tried some programs but no success, cannot do system restore also, everything needs administrative rights . I'm using Windows 8.1, retail version
I'll try and keep this as short and concise: I've got Windows 8 on a new Toshiba Satellite S855. I didn't create a guest acct. after I got it back in March - as I remember, it seems like I had some issues creating it because of the stupid Msoft forcing me to join/create and acct. for their new setup or something. Anyways, so I just skipped it and been using the desktop on my admin acct. to do all my net browsing, email, etc. I put my wimpy little music collection and some movies on it from my last lapT, and then last week I bought and downloaded Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Gamestop/Bethesda/Steam and installed it.
I've been playing catch up reading up on all the different things to do to make a more secure computer other than just letting MS essentials or AVG (on my last lapT) alone to do the work. I've got CCleaner and Malwarebytes on all the computers in the house and running MS essentials on my 8 & my old vista as well as my roomies running 7, but I'm not sure what all else I should install. Mainly though, I just want to know how to transfer things (For Dummies as I'm totally not very tech savvy) from an Admin acct. over to the Guest acct. on the same computer. I was thinking I'm sure there's some way to log into the guest, and then run admin in it and then transfer it over, but I haven't figured out how it's done yet.
