No Identity Found About Prompted Program
May 5, 2014
when I booted my computer this message box came up I've never seen this before so I said no, and am running Malwarebytes. The disturbing thing about this is that there is no identity as to what program is prompting this to display. Looking at View Certificate wan't any more useful, a bunch of data but no ID as to what it relates to.

I was forced to sign on with my MS account when installing 8.1.
Now I want to return to my local <username> account and not be prompted to log-in at boot up.
How can that be accomplished? It's set for NO password.

I think this is more a BIOS issue ... My packard bell PC stucked during a reboot, this happens when i leave a toshiba usb drive attached during the reboot circle, so I ctr-alt-canc without the usb drive attached and the OS wont boot because the internal drive boot order is messed up...
I restored the correct order and the OS starts up. BUT the boot process now display an ACER logo instead of packar-bell
the bios time is ok so i don't think is a battery problem. What is this? some sor of BIOS virus?, the machine became self-conscious and display a dissociative disorder? can i trust this PC?

I have two monitors and when I boot up my computer the UEFI splash screen appears on my smaller second monitor, rather than on the main monitor where I want it, but the login screen appears on the main monitor. As I normally only switch the second monitor on when I want to put something on it to avoid obscuring what is on my main monitor this is rather irritating.
I am assuming that the reason for this problem is that my main monitor has an identity number 2 and the secondary monitor is numbered 1.
My setup is :-
Windows 8.1, 64 bit;
Asus RAIDR Express PCIe SSD;
Asus GT630-SL-2GD3-L GPU;
Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 Motherboard, BIOS version 0602;
Processor Intel i7-4770S @3.1 GHz;
Kingston Technology XMP Beast Series 32GB 2400MHz DDR3 Memory.
Monitors :-
iiyama Prolite XB2776QS, (27 inch);
Dell u2412m, (24 inch).
I have tried uninstalling the drivers for the Dell monitor and rebooting the computer but it still comes back with an identity number of 1. There is nothing in the Nvidia control centre to enable me to swap the numbers. Is there any way of swapping the identity numbers over?
The iiyama is connected from the DVI port to the DVI port on the graphics card, the Dell connects from a DVI port to the HDMI port on the graphics card.

I am having problems deleting a folder. I'm getting the message 'Could not find this item'. The error message gives the location as C:Users.......My Music
(I had a similar problem (but different location) before in Windows 7 and was able to delete it going to the 'Run' window, entering 'cmd', which brings up the 'Command Prompt' window).
I'm attempting to follow this procedure in Windows 8.
But in the command window after C:Users|.....> when I try to change to that folder using the command 'cd My Music' I get the reply 'path not found'.

Friend of mine had a dual boot of windows 7&8 then, he tried to remove windows 8( it's partition was active but windows 7 wasn't active), he first deleted Windows 8 from msconfig then tried to delete the partition of windows 8( but Disk management didnt allow him neither easeus partition manager did, so he tried to keep windows 7 partition as active using easeus manager, then after completing the action, the PC failed to start, he tried automatic repair,but that bore no fruit... the PC says " Couldn't find any operating system, press ctrl+alt+del to restart...
edit: my idiotic friend after removing windows 8 from msconfig,upgraded win7 to Windows 8... suspect that MBR software has been corrupted... so is there any way to make his PC , boot again and remove the windows 8's( previously clean installed) partition ...

After the Windows 8 Update, I get the following message when I log in;
dwm.exe - Entry Point Not Found
[red circle with white x in it]
The procedure entry point CheckDesktopByThreadId could not be
located in the dynamic link library C:WINDOWSsystem32dwm.exe.
A few days before update I installed Office 2013 Preview.
I use Windows8 since the consumer preview without problems on my Lenovo S10-3 with the following specs;
Intel Atom dual core processor @ ~1,7GHz
1GB RAM
Much more isn't in it XD.
I had also made some small changes in the Registry to change the max resolution, but I did that in June.

Details are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log.
For example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log.
Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios. I don't want to do another clean install. Here is my CBS log as well ...

I've recently replaced my secondary HDD in HP Pavillion dv7 (primary is SSD@W8.1) and as soon as I booted up computer, I got error "no bootable devices found". The first thing that I tried out was bootable USB with Windows 8.1 whereas I ran "automatic repair" several times, without any luck.
Then I opened up command prompt under advanced menu and ran:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd
None worked, probably because of "element not found" error. I also tried with diskpart where I manually selected (see screenshot) SSD system partition for active one, but still without any luck.
I also created bootable Minitool Parition Magic USB and ran Rebuild BCD from there and it still didn't work.

I'm trying to register the .ocx's mentioned above.I first put the .ocx's in the windows/system32, and thereafter ran the regsvr32 command in cmd (as an administrator). I also tried to register them from the windows/SYSwow64. (I run x86).
However, I get the following error for both of the attempts:
The module ".ocx" failed to load Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.

It seems Windows 8.1 hates me, and my search indexing service is not running. I have checked services and it shows stopped. When I try to run the service, it says "Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
I have not removed this file, so I don't know what would cause this? I've attached a picture for a visual reference.
As a side note, this also affects my searching ability in Outlook 2013 64 bit. I cannot search for anything, as I do not get any results. I can search my PC for items by using the top right hand search box. I began looking into this because I could not search in outlook.

I am sure I have recovery images. Factory, and refresh. Asus shipped no recovery media. I obtained a copy of windows 8. I found out what my product key is. I have attempted every which way i can think of to get my system to recognize my recovery images exist. If i try to use "reset your pc" option it tells me unable to reset your pc. A required drive partition is missing.
If i choose system image recovery, hit cancel because it thinks the partition that definitely exists, doesn't, choose select a system image. Gives me a blank list. Choose Advanced...install a driver (you don't need to install sata driver as it recognizes my hard drive and Is listing it to choose a driver from should need be) i get an error installation had failed.
Internal error occurred (0x8007054F). No matter which driver IM trying to install. Usb, sata, dvd etc... So can't get my system image from my 32 gig stick, or my hdd.Image won't fit on dvd's. Worried i won't be able to do a clean install, as Asus's backups seem do reliable in mysituation(sarcasm) that i will lose all functionality like DVD playback, smart gesture touchpad, and some driver related setbacks.
I have checked and rechecked, and i have three system images to choose from. Total of six partitions.

I just got a FM2-A75MA-E35 motherboard and a installing Windows 8 on a freshly formatted SATA HDD. My BIOS see's the drive and has it second in the boot order, just after the DVD-ROM drive. It has a label with the drive serial number and everything, along with the drive being 'enabled' in BIOS. When I get up to the spot to choose what drive to install Windows to, its says 'No drives were found, please select a storage driver'. I found that it shows C: when I browse for drivers. Why this isn't working?

I bought a new computer in April, and Windows 8 lasted for about 8 weeks before refusing to start. I managed to get into a dos enviornment and copy my data (about 7700 photos). Who knew that I still remembered xcopy!
Anyway that whole sad story is here:
FILEBCD ERROR CODE: 0xc0000034
I'd prefer to not have to reformat everything and start from scratch (though now that I've ignored Costo and Dell's advice to write off my pictures and do that at the start it is at least an option I am willing to consider).
So I've been playing with bootrec to try and fix my
FILEBCD
ERROR CODE: 0xc0000034
Problems. Not that I know a anything about this process. So what I did was:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd
And get a response:
"Successfully scanned windows installations.
Total identified Windows installations: 1
Add installation to boot list? Yes<Y>/No<N>/All<A>:
No matter which choice I make I get:
The requested system device cannot be found.
Am I missing some sort of parameter?

My laptop took a bit of a fall about a week ago - but grabbed it by the screen before it fell directly on the floor (near miss). Now yesterday, when the mouse pad on the laptop froze up, I drummed on it a bit to get it working and the laptop suddenly shut off and this message appears when trying to start up: BootDevice Not Found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. I am not sure if it is relevant to the physical damage or if it is software related?

First my computer when bought came pre installed with Windows 7. As soon as Windows 8 came out I upgraded to Windows 8. My system is BIOS not UEFI. I have about 3gb ram and 500gb hdd drive 2.20 ghz processor. Windows 8 runs really smoothly. So recently 2-3 days ago I decided to dual boot Ubuntu with Windows 8. Before when I had Windows 7 I dual booted it with Windows 8. So now I thought about dual booting with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The Installation process was fine until I take out the installation usb with Ubuntu and whenever I try to restart it the PC would hang on the oem screen for a while which is ridiculously long.
Then when I would boot into Windows 8 and sign in I would get a notification message saying the last storage device you plugged in isn't found. I went to the device manager in Windows and it would say an unknown device has been found and even if I tried to Uninstall it would come back again. I tried searching for updates but nothing came up. I googled it and got no results. What annoys me the most is the PC hanging on the oem screen. Right now I fresh installed Windows 8 so it's the only OS running at the moment. But I want Ubuntu 12.04 LTS because of git, ssh and all the server side stuff. I have also posted the error screenshot for more info.

The only way to fix it is to plug it in and after 30 seconds it happens again...I'm only getting this on my computer, And it's gotten really bad recently, I've tried replacing the reciever, But that fixed it for maybe an hour....

I got 3 'file not found' entries in my Autoruns report (see below).
Having removed filters from the report, it looks like the files are there, but not where they are expected to be (am I correct with this interpretation?).
So should I be doing something like moving them to where they should be, or deleting the 'file not found' entries, or should I just leave well alone.

I bought my Sony VAIO flip on 12 Feb this year. At the beginning of April it started frequently crashing (a few times a day when using it on my commute and in the evening). It (almost) always crashes with a BSOD, but no error code, and no crash dump generated. About a quarter of the time, upon restarting from the crash, its says "Couldn't start Windows. Internal SSD not found". I'd keep restarting it and it would fail to start with the same error. If I leave it for a while (30 mins+), it restarts fine, until the next crash.
Given the 'SSD not found' errors, I had assumed it was a hardware fault with the drive failing intermittently. This would also explain the lack of crash dumps if the drive had issues and Windows couldn't write to it. However, I've read around and found some SSDs displaying this behaviour after a crash due to unexpected power loss to the drive, so I'm now wondering if this is a symptom not a cause.
Furthermore, windows restore does show windows updated some drivers at the beginning of April when the crashes started.
I did have one crash with and error code and a dump (24th April) but this is the exception. From the event log (occurrences of id 41 "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first") I can see crashes a few times a day every day I've used the computer in April:

It seems my windows ran into a problem. I am using Sony VAIO with OS windows 8, ram 8 GB with Nvidia gt780m graphic card 1 GB. It all started when i restored my pc (without recovery disks) as i was getting some problem in installation of Game (assassin Creed 4) and after restoration it worked fine and well. Then after a week or so my windows crashed and I rushed to service centre as I was not having my recovery disks to restore it. back I got my windows again and so I tried to install the same game but it was not installing showing error (screenshot is attached). I looked to other software like NFS MW 2 again I had same problem.
To ensure that installation files were not corrupt i copied the same files on my friends PC and installed it and it worked well and fine on it. Then I got to know it has something to do with my windows system file so I Google it and found the solution to run SFC/scannow command I did the same and there it was the corrupted files of windows(SFC details are attached). I found one particular solution (though it didn't work) Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command and tried to repair those files but it alwayz get stuck. How to get on to this issue cuz neither it's allowing me to play games nor letting me run a application properly it alwayz interrupt the application and say that certain .exe need to be closed.

I have an HP Pavilion TouchSmart with windows 8. Model number 14-b109wm. Yesterday my laptop was working perfectly. This morning when I tried to turn it on I got a message saying, "Boot device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk." I clicked F2 for system diagnostics and ran two tests for the hard drive. The "quick test" said "passed." So I ran the "extensive" test and it said "not installed." I dont know what any of this means or how to fix it. I called HP and the lady barely spoke english. She said the hard drive needs to be re-seated. Again, dont know what that means. The F8 and F12 keys dont work either.
