The front port worked with Ubuntu and other Linux distros but it seems to be the opposite case with Windows 8.1. I installed the latest Gigabyte version of the Realtek HD Audio Manager but it still doesn't work. What should I do?

Aug 30, 2013I've had this problem ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.
I was initially a Windows Vista user, and this headset worked perfectly fine on the Vista Home Premium OS. However, ever since my upgrade to Windows 8 Pro the microphone refuses to pick up sound.
I have done everything from uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, Realtek specifically to plugging it in through the back of my tower. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is not a hardware problem, as I use this same headset with my Xbox 360.
I've gone in and changed the settings via the sound menu, I have done literally everything I can find thus far. The microphone is detected, however there is constantly one bar of sound pick up from the microphone. My voice isn't even picked up from the Microphone set up menu. I've unmuted the front mic through the sound menu as well, but I still get nothing. I've reset everything to default countless times, and I still get no results.
The headset I am using specifically is the Red Samurai Xbox 360 Stereo Headset.

Sep 15, 2014I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.

Jul 19, 2014i've been having this problem since I THINK starting to use a HDMI wire. But now, i cannot get any audio from the audio jacks, they are detected, but no sound is produced and I just cannot figure it out. I've disabled the HDMI, installed, un-installed, re-installed audio drivers and pretty much any method and i can find thus far and nothing at all has worked. I'm a huge lover of music, and the is driving me insane!
Note: The speakers are fine, they work with my iPhone.
Product Key In Control Panel?

Is this my actual product key for reinstalling or is it an identifier? I do like it that I can find it on OEM PCs but I don't want people looking through my control panel for it.

I don't now how long this has been this way because at the very first I switched, via regedit, the default to the Win 7 type of desktop. After getting all programs installed and setting made to my preferences, then I switched to Metro.

After some research I figured out how to create a shortcut that opens the control panel item (example:firewall.cpl) by using its canonical name, and its GUID. Example I created a shortcut for default items using "C:Windowsexplorer.exe shell:::{17cd9488-1228-4b2f-88ce-4298e93e0966}" as the target.
However, I really would like the control panel to work properly. I don't know how to move the shortcuts I have created for the *.cpl files that no longer work into control panel. Alternatively, I would like to know if there is a way I can automatically "refresh" my system (without having to reinstall Win 8) so the control panel items work properly.

I figured it would be a simple fix: restore to before the update, and wait for the bugs to be worked out. However, every time I attempt to access the control panel to perform a system restore, the entire OS freezes. Update: I tried to power on my computer just now to no avail. Mar 8, 2013my PC running Win 8/IE10 . At random times during the day, I lose the Hard Drive/ DVDDrive Icons in the "My Computer" and all icons in Control Panel . On both pages I just get a blank screen with "Empty Folder" message, and a blue "Search Bar" at the top. Also, when the fault occurs, I lose all the Thumbnail Icon pictures of my Photographs, leaving justa white square with the name of the photograph beneath.
If I double click on the white square, the photograph appears normally jn Windows photo viewer.
Rebooting returns the PC to normal for a couple of hours maybe, but eventually the fault will reappear.
