How To Change Email Address Associated With Windows 8 Computer

Sep 25, 2013

How do I change the email address associated with my Windows 8 computer?

I got a new laptop with Windows 8 for Christmas. It was my first exposure to Windows 8 and I sailed through the installation/setup pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I've forgotten most of what I did and now I have a problem.

When I sign in to Windows 8, it shows me my main email address. But I've just moved and cancelled my account with that ISP. In another couple of days or weeks, the account will die and what will happen with regards to signing on to Windows 8. I assume I need to go to a website somewhere and re-register my laptop in some way to use a different email address.

Network / Sharing :: Hosted Network Doesn't Set IP Address

Jun 29, 2013

I generally create a hosted network with this command:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=foo key=foo
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

However, after running that script and restarting, it is unable to set the IP address (See screenshot).

Also, there are many logs in Event Viewer which says this: The DHCP allocator has disabled itself on IP address 169.254.212.34, since the IP address is outside the 192.168.137.0/255.255.255.0 scope from which addresses are being allocated to DHCP clients. To enable the DHCP allocator on this IP address, change the scope to include the IP address, or change the IP address to fall within the scope.

I need to get this hosted network up and running!

Network / Sharing :: Different IP Address On Devices On Same Network

Apr 26, 2014

I own a Wifi connectivity from an ISP whose login method is to 1st connect to the wifi network and then login to its own website, after which only it allows to surf the net..

A couple days ago, there was a big storm outside my plcae and the connectivity was down for 1 day.. When the connectivity was restored, i found that the IP address generally used by my laptop was changed somehow..

To test it, i used another laptop in my house and tried to connect to the internet while already logged on from my own laptop to the ISP's website...

Since the spare laptop was connected to an IP address different than the one my laptop was using, It again threw me back to the ISP's homepage where i have to login again to surf the web...

However, when i try to login there, it gives out the error that the user id is same but the ip is different and hence i am not allowed to login in... All this while i can use net on my own laptop...

Similar is the case when i try to connect it to my iPhone... Same thing as here also, the ip address is different than the one used in my own laptop...

I tried to renew the lease by using command prompt and it gave me a message "No operation can be performed on Local area network/bluetooth device/ethernet while it has media connected!

My wifi router is of Linksys! Also, I reseted my router using the reset button.. Didnt work.. And when i say that the ip addresses are different on 2 laptops, i mean that the 1st two are same, but the 3rd and 4th are different1. And I am unable to login to my router's website of 192.168.1.1 ....

Network / Sharing :: How To Bypass / Remove Windows 8 MAC Address Restrictions

Jun 25, 2014

I use a wireless network which utilizes MAC address filtering for security purposes and WEP encryption. I have a MAC address which is white listed on the network and am successfully able to access it by spoofing in my windows XP PC.

However, windows 8 has been giving me headaches since the last week because it simply refuses to alter the mac address to anything with the first octet being '00'.

I am using Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 and TP Link WN7200ND devices. looking for a way in order to alter the MAC in my windows 8 or some way to scan the network with my windows XP PC and find out some other white listed MAC addresses from the router by LINUX or whatever means possible

Can I use airodump -ng on windows somehow (I don't know linux much) to sniff the whitelisted macs?

Permissions For Windows 8 Users Assigned From Server

Mar 23, 2014

Is it may orientates how to add permissions for users who log on using the server?

In Windows 7, they were more stricter for example when user want install programs.

Is there a program that such causes can block the installation of programs, or hide the drives on your computer? It can be installed on a server or locally - with indifference.

I heard something about a Microsoft program, which was in the name of "policy", but unfortunately I can not find it.

Another matter. How a computer (model) duplicate to the other 20? For a backup? By the server? I mean, I do not have to install the 19 remaining, but install programs, just as soon as cloned together with all the settings.

Hardware Drivers :: Data Partitions Had No Drive Letter Assigned

A little work with Diskpart fixed that but left me wondering what would have caused them to disappear.

Dell :: Change Drive Letter Assigned To (winretools) Partition On Windows 8 Laptop?

Apr 7, 2013

I'm just going through the process of personalizing a new Inspiron 14z with Windows 8. The one thing that has me stumped are all the partitions that ship installed on the drive, due to a combination of everything being different on Win8, Dell doing things their own way, and GPT formatting.  Generally I would like to know what the heck all those partitions are for, but it's fine if that will be a slow learning process.  Specifically and immediately, I need to change the drive letter assigned to the "WINRETOOLS" partition.  Currently it's D:, and the problem is that for 10 years I've been using D: as my data partition, and quite a  number of applications, configurations, settings, etc. assume that all my files are on D:.  For instance, by having all my music on D:, I can sync iTunes library and preference files between machines, and all ratings and playlists match from one machine to the next.  Same thing for my photos.  Same thing for a bunch of utilities like FTP consoles, sync utilities...

In a prior version of Windows, I would just go into Disk Management, right click the partition in question, assign a different drive letter, and job done.  On my machine, the 2GB WINRETOOL partition doesn't even show as having a drive letter in Disk Management, despite the fact that it's D: in Win Explorer.  Additionally, the only right click option is "help".  I've taken that option, and, despite its aspirations, it's not useful.

How can I change that drive letter to something else?  Should WINRETOOLS even have a drive letter in Explorer (some posts I've seen indicate that it should be hidden)?  If I do manage to change the drive letter, will that break its function, whatever that is?

My machine has a 500GB spinning disk, which has all the aforementioned partitions.  I've shrunk the C: partition to 80GB, in preparation for creating a data partition.  I have not yet formatted the unassigned space as I would like to solve this WINRETOOLS thing first.  Finally, there is a 32GB SSD that I've set up as an Intel Smart Response cache, and it's no longer visible to the OS.

Network / Sharing :: Computer Disappears From Local Network After Few Hours

Dec 9, 2013

I have a local network at home with 1 router, 5-6 computers and a few gadgets connected through WiFi.

I have a problem with one of the computers with Windows 8.1, let's call it Computer A. When I boot it, it is connectable from the other computers using its local IP address. But after a few hours it usually disappears from the network, and I'm only able to connect to it using the router's external IP and port forwarding.

By "disappears from the network", I mean that it's still connected to the router and to the internet, but none of the other units on the network is able to connect to it in any way.

Computer A can always connect to the the other computers on the network and to the internet.

The problem is solved if I reboot Computer A, so at the moment I have a scheduled task to reboot it every night. Unfortunately, sometimes it disappears from the local network after only a few hours after boot.

Turning the firewall off on Computer A doesn't work.

Below is the result of ipconfig /all on Computer A:

Code:

Network / Sharing :: Cannot Disconnect Shared Computer On Network

Dec 30, 2013

Windows 8.1x64 clean install from dvd. I have a private network configured as a Workgroup consisting of a W2000 photocopy machine,XP desktop, W7 desktop and laptop and now a Windows 8.1 desktop. During the initial installation I have files on the Windows 7 desktop I need so from Windows Explorer I clicked on the Windows 7 computer to gain access to the password shared folders and their files. I entered the User and Password info and clicked the "stay connnected" as I expected to reboot several times during this computers installation.

Everything worked just great UNTIL I no longer wanted the connection to the Windows 7 computer. On XP and even Windows 7 it was trivial to Disconnect a computer that I had established a share with.

However, on Windows 8.1 I cannot figure out how to do it. How do I disconnect the share with the Windows 7 computer?

This may seem trivial but I cannot figure it out. Obviously I can disconnect from the W7 computer but that computer is shared with others as well. And then the other computers would have to re-establish their shares. And, that would just be a work around.

Network / Sharing :: How To Access Computer Remotely

Jan 29, 2014

I have an aunt who runs a business who wants to be able to let the computer run over night at her business and let me access it remotely to do the usual disk cleanup, defrag, virus scans and backups. Currently I have to go on Sundays to do all this and it is just a pain to sit there and wait for the task to complete. I did have some of these automated but some how under the computer illiterate they always get messed up.

Is there a piece of software (preferably free) that will let me access her machine to do all this? It doesn't matter if I need her on the other end to grant me permission to access the machine but I would rather do this from home during the night then do all this on a Sunday.

Unable To Enter Numbers In Address Bar?

I tried all three browsers, Firefox, IE 10, and chrome. I tried a second keyboard with the same results. I verified that the system worked correctly at the OS level by entering numbers and special characters into notepad. There are several other places that the problem is present.

When I enter my password to get into Comcast webmail and when I enter a password containing either a number or special character in a prompt for accessing one of my network devices. Any problems with keyboard control after upgrading to win 8?
