My windows 8.1 laptop keeps stating that I have limited or no internet accessibility and drops the signal often.
Recently bought 3 laptops for the household (1 HP Envy TouchSmart m7 Sleekbook, and 2 Gateway NV570P10u Touchscreen Laptops)
Laptops came with Windows 8, I immediately upgraded to Windows 8.1 so I cannot say if things were working when I had Windows 8
I have all these laptops connected to the Internet via DLink-Dir655 Router. Additional devices connected to the router/internet are a wireless printer, server running Windows Server 2008, laptop running Windows XP Professional, and a laptop running Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium (along with couple cell phones running Android). All other devices have absolutely no connectivity issues ... Only the 3 laptops running Windows 8.1 keep giving us headache to a point we can hardly connect to the Internet using these (Winows 8.1) laptops
Interestingly, when I connect laptops via Ethernet cable connection is "little more stable" but I still get disconnects ("page cannot be displayed" errors) which leads me to the conclusion that it is not Wireless card always but Router or its settings are also playing a role.
We can focus on HP laptop to address this issue. It has Intel Centrino N-2230 as its built-in wireless card. Was having lots of disconnects or pages partially displayed but when I attached an old MediaLink Dongle (USB WiFi Card), internet connection became lot more stable. It is atleast 10x more stable compared to built-in wireless card but I still gets disconnected even with this dongle (and Ethernet cable as mention before)
PS: I tend to believe it is router's compatibility ... Otherwise why Ethernet Cable is giving the connectivity issue? But router is listed as compatible with Windows 8 on MS Website and Ethernet connection is 10x more stable than Wireless connection.
My laptop is a Lenovo Z580, the dropping off of internet has gotten worse over the weeks and it now d.c every minute even though it says it is connected in the side bar and i have to reconnect by disconnecting then reconnecting the wireless adapter. I have spent a long time troubleshooting this problem as soon as i come home from work, i have been on many forums and tried many different solutions from disabling power saver management, updating drivers, reseting TCP/IP and winsock as read on this forum and it only makes it worse.
Every other device in my house is connected fine and it seems only to be a windows 8 problem as other laptops/computers in my house are all windows 7 and they work fine, i even got a new router a few days ago and it has made no difference.
I don't really know what to do anymore, just patiently waiting for a windows 8 update.
I had to disconnect/reconnect to post.
I have Acer v5 touch which I only just purchase A few weeks ago. For some reason every 30 minutes the internet keeps dropping out, When the system Carn't connect I can connect to the internet with my tablet just fine so I dont know if its the router?
My family has reported that there having issues aswill but it seems to be at diffrent times. So I carn't tell if its the computer or network dropping out, I have read that acer has had previous wifi issues a few months ago. This leaves me comfused and how to fix the problem. Its A brand new machine so if it is the laptop why am I already facing issues with it??
Heres the error : [URL] .....
Could it be the computer or network?
We have a nice signal from the router until about the same time each day. Only cable tv modem is available. Evidently the country neighbors do lots of internet during the afternoon.
Is there a way to boost the signal coming down the cable line ? The cable tv company has installed new cables from the pole into the house. We have installed all new cables in the house.
All of the boosters I've seen are for after the wireless signal gets to the cable modem.
This is a 6 month Old Gateway Laptop, Windows 8 preinstalled. Broadcom Network Adapter.
I have a Buffalo WZR-300GB Router (2.4mHz, with 802.1/ 11g/b/n) all working. There are 4 wired and 3 wireless computers on the network. Wife's Gateway (Windows 8) is the ONLY one with [wireless]dropped connections. No MOVE has been made with Her Laptop or the Router.
This is the troubleshooting I've have done so far.
Uninstalled/reinstalled network adapters.Reset the adapters. Scanned Hardware changes (before/after) in the Device ManagerTurned off Power Management.Disabled the Lan (wired) connection-adapter.Removed (Forget this Connection) 2 other wireless connections from outside the home.Wireless Adapters are set to "Maximum Performance" under (edit power plan).Moved to Laptop (actually the 1st thing I did) to 2 different locations with same results, dropped connection.Under settings the Topology is all Checked, Except 2 I have never seen before. Multi-Layer Protocol, and Kernel 64 something. Anyway, when I insert a check mark next to both. I'm Prompted "Do you really want to disable this connections?" I have done both (checked/unchecked) nothing changes.Under Device Manager: Restore all Hidden Adapters, About Five More adapter showed up I had never seen before. So then I Scanned for Hardware Changes. No effect!
After I put the pc into the sleep mode and then try to open with on and off switch, I can't get in windows 8.1. I get no video signal (image), but the pc stays on. I've been using since 2 days a new video card and I installed the drivers from installation cd. With my previous video card, I'd not suchlike problems.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor last couple days I've been going through a minor computer issue. I wasn't doing anything special, I just turned the computer off. And the next day the problem occured; After bios and Windows 8 loading screen ( the little dots going round, just below the windows 8 icon ) my screen goes black and there's no signal to the display. I've already tried formatting my hdd and installing windows 8, also tried doing Reset option, from the Windows 8 troubleshot system. I can't access my Safe Mode, because it tells that Windows can't finish the installation in safe mode ( After installing the new system I format all the data and it goes just fine until the windows icon and "Preparin your devices" sign. It goes 100% and gets black again.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAm getting a few persistent problems with this OS on the laptop like dropping saved password ID's etc and changing the format of the forum window and the latest is trying to download the latest Adobe Reader update it keeps asking me to open it with something.
Whatever happened to the good old run or save why do I have to open it with something. If the problems keep happening I am going back to my old 7 system despite 8.1 being faster etc.
So I did a factory reset on my pc, came back into the room to see that my monitor (tv) said no signal and my small LG monitor was black so I just assumed it was part of the process. After about 6 to 7 hours of waiting it still remained the same, even after restarting and trying many other methods to get it to work nothing happens and also it now keeps beeping every 10 to 15 seconds trying to connect my keyboard and mouse, after the beep the mouse and keyboard turn on (the lights on them go on) then after 3 seconds or so they turn off and it does this non stop, also my graphics card is a Radeon 7700 if that has anything to do with it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop running Windows 8.1 with Update 1. I have drives mapped to my Windows Home Server 2011 and to my Windows 7 desktop PC. But each time I reboot the laptop it drops the mapped drives and I have to try and map them all over again. I say "try" because most times I have to go back to my other PCs and unshare and then reshare the drives for them to be seen again in Windows 8. Then I can map them again but only until the next reboot.
Same goes for the Windows Home Server 2011 Connector software. Windows 8.1 drops the connection after a reboot and the Connector software must be reinstalled EACH TIME to connect with my server.
I have the SAME user name and password on ALL machines. I have tried mapping the drives with just the username and password as well as with the remote PC nameusername combo but that doesn't work either. Finally I have set my shared drives/folders to have read/write access to ALL users. Again, no luck unless I unshare and reshare.
Ok I finished up my PC Build

Asus Rampage IV Black Ed mobo

Samsung 840 EVO ssd
2 TB WD HDD
My mouse or Keyboard or both suddenly without warning will stop functioning. Sometimes one or the other sometimes both. I tried running a game for a small bench test and it dropped the mouse and keyboard so I had to use the reset button to get out.
I'm going to throw my hat into the ring of people with wi-fi issues following an update to 8.1. on a brand new Alienware 17.
After the update to 8.1 last night, wi-fi will connect and then drop out after I start transferring data (browsing)
The only remedy is to either restart, or "forget" the connection and re-establish. At which point it will again only work for several minutes, or until I start "using" it.
Wireless adapter is a Broadcom BCM4352 Wireless adapter.
A friend of mine just bought a HP Envy dv6-1148ca and the LAN and WIFI keeps dropping out.
He has re-installed Windows 8 twice with the same results.

Searches showed others with HP laptops having the same issues, no one seems to find an answer to this problem.
Secure sites seem to be more stable, but do drop out.
Some sites won't start at all, others start but drop out after 1-3 hours.
We have reset the Power Management to not 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' and still the same.
Other laptops on same network are having no problems, including other HP laptops, different models.
I have a HP Pavillion Model No. p7-1423w I replaced the stock power supply with a 600B 600W Bronze Power Supply.
And installed a EVGA Geforce GTX 660 and have it powered by the new power supply. When I connect the new graphics card Via DVI-D And I got no signal.
I rebooted into the BIOS to try to disable the on board graphics but I saw no option to do so.
So iwas wondering if there is a way to check the signal strengh of your wifi by percentage.

today my PC was working totally fine until I decided to finally put risers on my motherboard (also known as standoffs).
I had to remove everything and put it back together. Everything is seated firmly as can be now though.
When I turn on my PC all of the fans spin and all seems well. No beeps, etc. however, I believe the hard drive is making some sort of click noise. I extensively pinpointed it to there.
I can't tell if the OS is booting up since I don't know how to produce a noise without seeing anything.
I took out the CMOS battery but no fix. I reseated all components, firmly pushed in cables.
I will try booting without HDD in about 10 minutes. I'm trying some things.
I tried 2 different monitors and dvi slots.
EDIT: Put everything back together and it works now. I .. don't know what went wrong. But it works now. A stressful day that was.
I am getting strong signal from the router, but does not result in connection to the net.As I am new to Windows 8
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an HP m6-k015dx and it has an intel centrino 2230 wifi card in it. I also have an old, netgear wna 1100 usb wireless adapter. The wireless usb adapter I have gets extremely better wifi connection that the internal adapter and the signal strength on the networks won't fluctuate. Are there any settings I can change on the intel adapter, or can I buy a new internal adapter to replace the intel to get better reception?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI leave my laptop on at night to capture updates etc. On my new HP Envy with win 8.1 by morning the wireless card seems to have gone to sleep and the signal strength icon is grayed out. The pci power settings are "OFF" and the power setting in Device manager are also set to NOT turn it off.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI wonder with this problems that has just started today. I have an Acer Aspire V5 which has just been updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. This laptop is used for training and is usually connected to a training monitor for students to follow along with the trainer.
This has worked perfectly until I updated to Windows 8.1. When I connect to the training monitor I get a message saying 'Input Signal Out of Range, reset to 1280 x 1080 60ghz. There isn't a setting for the above resolution. Everything works fine until I connect to the secondary monitor. Annoyingy the message remains on that screen - I can't remove it.
How can I go about improving my wifi signal through walls? My router is located in my living room beside my computer. When I'm upstairs my wifi signal diminishes. This is frustrating and I was wondering how I could go about boosting the signal strength when upstairs. By the way, I don't have a cheap router. The ASUS RT-N66U is my router of choice.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have windows 8.1 installed on my Dell Inspiron 15 7537 and use a TP-link TD-W8960N modem. Every once in a while (once or twice a day, sometimes more) the laptop would lose connection with the router. When I click on the network icon down at the bottom right hand corner of the screen to try and reconnect, my network would not be there.
This is what the network pop-up looks like when I'm connected. When the laptop drops out, then my network is not shown, only my neighbours one (westham).
When the computer (I have tested 2 different modems and continue to get drop outs so it's definitely the computer) loses connection, I then click troubleshoot and I see that it "resets network adapter" and then my wifi is somehow found again and it automatically reconnects. Sometimes this troubleshooting does not work though.
Now before you tell me to check if I have the latest driver installed, I have checked several times with the dell website and it IS up to date.
I got a new video card, namely the Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X to replace my old (broken) video card, namely the Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 Boost.
The problem is that I get no video signal when linking my new video card. The vga-led on motherboard turns on red (normally never) .
I thought my motherboard is broken, but then I tried the video card (Radeon HD 6950) from my brother and he just shows video signal. (vga-led turns not on red this time on motherboard) .
I would also say that on the box of my new video card is a 750 watt power supply recommended, but I only have a 600 watt power supply build in my pc.
I have a Asus Laptop operating with Windows 8.1. It connects to wifi but none of the desktop icons can get to the Internet. Meanwhile most window tiles in the start menu have Internet access . For example I have the application "MegaTube" and that application has access to the Internet. As well as the weather app, which updates when connected to the Internet.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi was reading about how Windows 8 must be activated using a KMS server of some kind, i was wondering is it possible to activate Windows 8 without internet or use infinite trial to avoid connecting to the internet?
Could i create a KMS server hosted on my LAN so i dont have to rely on the internet to activate Windows 8? Is there any method to activate Windows 8 offline?
Right after I installed the windows 8 I tried to make a new connection to the internet (I have a modem), but when I hit the button connect (after typing the username and password for the new connection) I get an error ("Windows run into a problem and needs to restart") and it restarts.
I re-installed Windows 8 three times so far but no success.I keep getting the same error just when it tries to connect to internet.
