I wanted to try the new Windows 8.1 i downloaded virtualbox and downloaded the windows 8 64 bit ISO and it blue screens upon startup what i find strange is i know i can run windows 8 i had the preview iso for windows 8 when it was under development.

Sometimes Windows 8 just hangs after I look around and change some of the DVD related settings in VirtualBox. My host system is ubuntu and the guest is Windows 8.
When it hangs it is usually showing the Windows 7 desktop because I am always in that mode. I cursor to the lower left to try to the the mini-tiles but no matter what I do with the cursor, the mini-tiles do not appear. In fact, nothing works. I cannot launch any desktop applications.
In the past I solved this by simply having VirtualBox send the shutdown power-off signal. Windows is ignoring the shutdown signal. Is there a Windows-centric way to fix this problem so that I can do a Windows-centric shutdown in the normal fashion or otherwise resolve or prevent this problem?
VirtualBox running on windows 8 pro 64bit. I first installed it 2 weeks ago and I had no problems.
At the weekend I decided to set up my virtual machines from my Vista install and some of the older ones didn't work so I decided to uninstall and reinstall VirtualBox.
I checked that the version I had was still the latest version and reinstalled it.
Last night I had problems with my computer hanging at the windows 8 desktop screen for 2-5 minutes before I could open Internet explorer straight after boot up. This was with VirtualBox not running so I presume it's one of the drivers causing the problem.
It seems strange that it was ok until I reinstalled it.
I'm not sure weather to reinstall it again or wait for another update.
I was wondering if oracle virtualbox will run on windows 8 pro 64 bit i would like to use it instead of using the built in one that came with windows as i want to run Tails from [URL] .... in a VM and it is not supported by the built in Hyper-V on windows 8. but i don't want to goof up windows by installing another virtual software so i need to know if it will work before I do it.

This is using the latest VBox 4.2.14.
Re-installing VirtualBox solves it but duplicate driver entries still remain, one being the old one.
I'd like to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Pro. This will be run as a guest on VirtualBox 4.3.2 (the newest as of November 2013) on Ubuntu 12.04 (April 2012) with weekly updates.
In Windows Store, an attempt to upgrade fails because, it indicates that Windows 8.1 is "not supported by your CPU". This is a doubtful explanation because it runs Windows 8 fine. The CPU is an Intel i7 - 2670 QM that was released in Q4 2011 in a unit that retailed in June 2012. VirtualBox has WDDM and 3D acceleration since at least VirtualBox 4.1 which was released more than a year ago. I run with VirtualBox's display 2D acceleration ON, and previously with 3D acceleration OFF because I've had problems. However, 3D acceleration is presently ON. Regardless, Windows 8.1 will not install either way.
This is what Microsoft indicates under "more information" about Win 8.1.

I note that Windows 8 also requires PAE, NX, and SSE2 so that should not be the problem. I have allocated 4 GB RAM and about 500 GB disk, which are both more than adequate.
Edit: I use a 64 bit machine with 64 bit Linux and 64 bit Windows. Edit: Although I tried to install Windows 8.1 with 3D acceleration ON, I generally keep it OFF because it can result in a crash of my .NET application that uses a XAML window. It's not a bug that I care enough about to fix.
How do I fix this Windows 8.1 installation problem?
Host OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on SSD system disk. PC Specs: Intel Core i7 3770K on ASRock Z77 OC Formula with 16GB DDR3, GTX470 VirtualBox version: 4.3.12 r93733 with Extension Pack 4.3.12 r93733.
I've had a Windows 8.1 Pro x64 VM running on VBox 4.3 for a few days now with no issues at all.
However, this morning, the VM refused to boot saying VT-x was not enabled.
I checked via the VM settings but the whole "Acceleration" pane was disabled and not accessible. I was not able to resolve the issue even after rebooting my PC and explicitly enabling Intel Virtualization in the PC BIOS (it was on AUTO before - I set it to ENABLE).
I have since several times removed the VM completely and attempted to reinstall.
Every time, the VM hangs on the Windows 8 logo screen on install and then crashes with the Error 0x000000C4.
As found on VirtualBox community forums and on other sites, I have tried the SETEXTRADATA command via command prompt running as administrator, and have confirmed that the .vbox file has been changed and the string ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/CPUM/CMPXCHG16B" value="1" appended in the <ExtraData> section.
However the VM still refuses to boot or reinstall. I have Ubuntu, Fedora and ZorinOS VM's all working perfectly.
The only change to my system that took place in the interim was that I installed Comodo Free Firewall last night. Seeing the problems I have been having with the VM since this morning, I uninstalled Comodo and rebooted thinking it might have something to do with my problems, but still no joy.
I am also uploading my .VBOX files before and after to show the changes that have been made by the SETEXTRADATA command.
How to get older O/S's like Windows 95, 98 and ME running on VirtualBox on Windows 8, I used to be able to run all Operating Systems when I had my Vista set up. Strangely I can install and run DOS and Win 3.1 but not Win 95, Win 98 and Win ME. Anything from XP works fine.

I get a blue screen error of "driverirql_not_less_equal" when my laptop monitor dims.

Just had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer.When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view.There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.

I play the lord of the rings online, and when I try to launch it, as soon as it goes into full screen, the whole screen gets dark bluish (not BSOD). When thah happens the screen stays that way even if I close lotro and the only way it goes back to normal is by rebooting.

Dual booting Win 7 and Win 8. Win 7 is C: Primary installed first, Win 8 is installed to a primary partition (25GB). I get the blue recovery screen after starting Win 8 from bootloader menu. Win 7 starts fine. I have installed Win 8 on another computer using the same flash so I know the flash is good. First I defraged and cleaned out C: then created the partition. I have installed it on the computer before (preview edition) then removed it(formated D: partition), this is the RTM 9200 build. Did I mention that on the other computer when installed it asked for Key which I temporarily skipped, on this computer however when installed it did not ask for the key. Before the install I ran bootrec /fixmbr, /fixboot and also /rebuildbcd from Win 7 install disk.
I don't think it's a problem with the Win 7 boot loader. My guess is some registry value or other setting or file in Win 7 is preventing normal startup of Win 8. I do believe it's not hardware related. Any thoughts on what could cause this? Could it be the Win 8 bootloader now causing problems and if so how would I fix this issue? Do I need to fix bootloader in Win 8 and should I run the bootrec cmd's from the Win 8 flash this time? Not sure which has taking over now! I have searched in these forums and online for a couple of day's to no avail though references have been made that the Win 8 bootloader has now taken over, if so were does the now functioning bootloader reside - C: or D: (partition) and which one is it Win 7 or Win 8 loader?
Recently I'm getting the blue screen on death 100% every time I boot up than it restarts and it doesn't give the screen. Also When the computer is on and I restart it doesn't give the screen Either.

I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 from windows 7. Installation went fine and first time I loaded into windows perfectly. View 4 Replies View RelatedSince Yesterday I've gotten the Window's 8 Blue screen saying the Error "MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE REQUESTS" now i got this multiple times yesterday, even got the "BAD_POOL_HEADER" Searched around and found out this was probably a Driver Error and updated my Drivers. Only my Video Card needed an update and after Installing the latest driver and restarting my Computer everything seemed fixed. But today i got the same IRP Error again.
I have an Busted up USB port and thought that maybe the Driver was confused about it and made the error so i Deactivated the specific driver to that Port, But after getting the same IRP error and restarted the comp again i got the "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" error at startup
Now my I comp started normally and I'm waiting for the next Error so I don't know what do to. I found out that there's some error Logs (C:/windows/minidump) but I don't know a program that'll make them readable.

Computer is giving me a blue screen every 5 minutes or so.
Cant install windows 8, it gets halfway through then I get the blue screen and message irql not less or equal, was wondering how to solve this? I am trying to install the 64-bit version and have an acer aspire with a 1.3ghz processor, 4gb of ram and 181gb free on my hard drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Samsung EVO 840 120 gb SSD and did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro on it. Also formatted my other HDD's. And after that I started to experience at random times the complete freeze of windows and sometimes blue screen of death with "clock watchdog timeout" message. They usually happens when I unpacking an archive, during file copy, downloading big files, installing mods in nexus mod manager for skyrim or sometimes just in very random events. I noticed that usually when this happens hdd activity led on my pc case blinks continuously. When this freeze or BSOD happens I need to manually reset my computer.
(Also most of the archives I download from the internet I get crc errors for most when I try to unpack them, so I have redownload it again :/)

Since the laptop was sold just with the installed windows but without the CD with windows8, I'm not able to reinstall it.
I'm experiencing a problem after installing Windows 8 on Dell Inspiron N7110.
When I leave my laptop on for a while, it restarts because of a blue screen with the error: 0x00000050; PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
It only happens when the laptop isn't used but is still on. When I'm working on it this error doesn't occur.
I checked RAM and HDD with Dell Support Center PC Checkup (even RAM stress test) and it shows no errors. Besides the HDD is new, as my old one broke and Dell replaced it.
I updated all my drivers from Dell's Website, so they all supported by windows 8.

Okay, so this started appearing and I got a little worried. Each time it happens, I go through a restart and am just fine. So, I started to think about why it appeared. Then it happened more often. I'd say it pops up for no apparent reason every couple days, sometimes more frequent.
Every day, I do the following:
- Run Disk Cleanup
- Run Defrag
- Do a Manual Full System Scan with Norton Antivirus
I do all of these things and try to never download shady files, but it happens all the time. Sometimes it will be when I'm talking to someone on Skype (Text, not Video), or in an app like One Note or OK Cupid Touch.
It happens so frequently that I feel like there is something I'm missing.

I let it do it's thing and it referenced -- kernal_data _inpage_error and since then it has been good for a few minutes but as soon as I attempt to multitask everything freezes for 3-5 mins and I can't do a thing.
