View 5 RepliesMy windows apps dont want to open, the store opens shows the brief case logo for a 2-3 seconds and it minimises when i click on it on it to open it again the same thing happens and all other apps dont even respond just their icon move a little on the sides to indicate they are clicked but they don't open at all.
I use windows 8 enterprise and it is activated, it happened before, one way to fix it but its annoying is to create new account and on it they work just fine, but the old one don't.
I can delete and it and recreate it but then i have to register some of my programs again. I read on the internet about that issue so my resolution is not the problem UAC is still on. I use windows defender for antivirus.
Version: 8.1, 8.1.1 ... When updates from windows-updated are installed (which requires reboot), the "Restart now" button appears after installation. However, I decided not to restart at that time. After completing my job I shutdown by right click on start icon -> Shutdown or sign out -> Shutdown. I started my laptop the next day and checked for updates, I still see the same page where "Restart now" option is shown. With this, you cannot further check for updates.
The shutdown from start-icon is not recognized as "restart". I also checked the update history. The updates installed the other day were shown as "Pending restart".
This is happening for quite sometime. Technically shutdown and start is to be considered as restart. When shutdown from start-icon is selected, what exactly happens? Is it not shutting the PC completely?
After updating windows 8 when I try to launch system properties, explorer hangs and restarts itself but I noticed that it gives me activation section Product ID:Not Available.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am tired of having to repair Windows updates then get to install one or two then have to go through the whole process again.
Is there a site where updates can be downloaded according to their KB numbers then installed manually?
Windows Update says it's Downloading Updates. It has said that more than 30 minutes ago. And it's still 0 KB total, 0% complete.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy update history does not show any updates after 1/22/14. I know for sure that I have successfully installed at least a few dozen updates since then (almost all of them involving Windows Defender).

Getting to Windows Update is more round about in Windows 8 than is was in 7, which had a button on the start menu.
Today I created a link and put it on my taskbar.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 8.1 RTM installed on my computer. Some days ago, Microsoft released the GA updates for the system. Windows update downloaded them, but they failed to install... I've downloaded the updates manually and applied them in the correct order... But no luck, the updates fail to install...
Here's a photo of the updates... (in Spanish)
I was wondering if I can update my windows 8 which came pre-installed to 8.1 without going to the store and waiting for it to be downloaded.
Is there any ISO online where I can readily download the image and update it? Its a HP laptop.
My son has an MSI Laptop running Windows 8.1. Following a recent Windows update (he cannot be more specific) he is no longer able to use his Admin (the only one) account. He sees the mouse pointer but the rest of the screen is black. Ctrl-Alt-Del does bring up a panel offering the usual options to shut down, reboot, Task Manager, etc. - but when I select Task Manager with the intention of seeing what processes are running, the dialogue does appear, but before it is properly displayed it vanishes.
Meanwhile the HDD light is burning constantly. If I simply leave the machine for 30 minutes or so, then the HDD activity subsides but there is still a blank screen. Moving the mouse pointer to the top or bottom right hand side of the screen has no effect.
Unfortunately we did not have the wits to set restore points Interestingly the other account (not administrator) is working without problem.
I'm trying to install the new update
It says
Downloading 1 update (0kb), 0% complete
What do I do?

I am using windows 8 pro and i am facing one problem. windows updates never show its icon in taskbar. in windows 7 it shows the icon in taskbar so that user can download and install updates if he has set windows updates to let him know about updates before downloading or installing them.
But windows 8 never shows any icon in taskbar. That's why I never get any notification of new updates available. i can only know about updates if i lock the computer or log off or restart the computer because windows 8 shows notification about updates at welcome screen.
Is it only me who is facing this problem or is it default behavior of windows 8? Is there any way to make it similar to previous windows versions?
I have an HP that I cannot get to activate. I did a clean install and my login is an admin. I deselected installing Norton's during the reset but it was there when I booted up so I removed it with the Norton's removal tool. I tried activating by using the "Windows activation" from the search button and then tried by using an elevated command prompt of "slui.exe 4" but both ways gave me a 0xc0000022 error.

The past week or so I have had a problem with updates for windows defender in win 8.1 failing to work. Is it from any of the last updates on patch Tuesday? or another problem. I can get the update from a windows site and install it from that but not from defender its self or windows update.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA niggle that's potentially quite a problem is that my 8.1 laptop Taskbar is not notifying me that "New Updates are Available."
I never set to install them automatically, I like to know what's going on and choose how to use my connection and processing power, but the notification from the Log In screen is easily missed and not satisfactory in my opinion. I think there's a third party piece of software to correct this, but I was wondering if there's a better way to restore the function?
During update, Windows 8.1 restarts, and goes to the boot screen. Then gives this error: We couldn't complete the updates, Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.
All updates that were installed get undone. And if you install updates again, it will do the same thing. The reason is because of one update: IE 11 Windows 8.1 - KB2962872
I am new to Windows 8 with a new Asus X550E series computer. When I try to do an update to 8.1 it says and I quote "Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes Do not turn off you computer."
View 1 Replies View Relatedso about a month ago I needed to do a refresh on my Asus Laptop which had Windows 8.1 (64bit). I bought this computer back in September of 2013. It was a simple refresh that saved my files and such. The reason I had to refresh was for some odd unknown reason, League of Legends would not go to the login screen, as it would fail. I tried everything to fix that problem, and nothing worked. So, I did a refresh.
Now, I have Windows 8, and my updates wont install at all. I have tried to do a windows update repair and it doesn't fix all the problems, tried to do a clean boot install. Nothing works as of right now. My computer restarts every 2 days and fails.
"Failed Configuring Windows Updates - Reverting Changes" < something of that sort. Every time. I checked if any of the windows updates have gone through, and almost all of them have not.
For about a month now I have been getting extremely slow internet and task manager says that "Windows Update" is using all of it. I ran the windows update troubleshooter and it came up with "Windows Update components must be repaired. Fixed." This fixes it for about half an hour and then I have to run the troubleshooter again and every time I do it says the same thing. I have tried googleing for answers and have tried a few things but so far nothing has worked.
Since this morning I have also been getting "Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x80070490. Fixed" but it still comes up every time I run the troubleshooter.
Our effort to build great software never stops. That's why we periodically release updates for Windows Phone 8 to add new features that maximize your phone's performance. Below is a summary of what we've included in each update so far. The most recent update is listed first. The longer number refers to the Windows Phone operating system (OS) version.
Updates to Windows Phone 8 are cumulative, so when you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates (if your phone doesn't have them already). Only updates that apply to your phone will be downloaded and installed.
When it's available, we'll also pass along software from phone manufacturers that improves the performance of specific phone models. If you have questions about what's included in a phone manufacturer update, contact your phone manufacturer.

Tip How to Check for and Install Windows Phone Software Updates
I have a little problem: I've just recently installed Windows 8.1, all the updates, and, from time to time (1 hour or even faster), action center tells me that windows update is disabled, and when I've gone to the settings, it was off. Ok, no problem, it's not hard to enable it. But, as I said, something, I don't know which program or the operating system or anything else stops it.

I have purchased a new Windows 8 laptop and I'm looking to get the latest Windows updates in order to be able to upgrade to Windows 8.1. Every time I attempt to access windows update, either via the computer information or the start menu, it freezes. After a while it will eventually get to the actual update screen where I can choose to check for updates. Upon pressing this it freezes again, and will eventually resume checking. After a while I get the error code 80072EE2. I have tried using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool and it does notify me that there are problems and corrupted files, but says it hasn't fixed them! Screenshot below:
If the Troubleshooter can't fix this, what should I do to be able to update? I have previously performed a system refresh to attempt to fix this but it has not worked.
I format my PC like a every 6 months. The most annoying part is the updates of Windows 8 which is like more than a gigabyte. I want to backup the updates and reinstall them without downloading them again. Is it possible?
