I have recently bought D-Link dual band router and installed at home. Router is working absolutely fine because I could see my other laptop and Ipad are able to detect both the bands. So that says there no problem with the router configuration. Also the router which I have bought is recently released, so there are no new updates are released yet.
As per the installation guide, 802.11a supports 5Ghz and IEEE 802 11b/g/n supports 2.4 Ghz.

Model : Sony SVF14A190X (an year old laptop)
Operating System : Windows 8.1 Pro, 64 Bit
Network Adaptor drivers: BCM43142 Wireless Network Adapter
Router Details: D-Link DIR-850L VER A.1 wireless AC1200 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router.
The network adaptor which my laptop supports IEEE 802 11b/g/n..i.e.2.4 Ghz. I tried installing the Network Adapter drivers in compatibility mode, but that doesn't fix the issue.
When I checked in Command prompt, it says : Radio Types Supported : 802.11n 802.11g 802.11b.
How should I upgarde network drivers to : 802.11n 802.11a 802.11g 802.11b
When attempting to install Creative drivers for X-Fi cards you may receive this message:
"unable to detect supported product"
and of course that's as far as you get.
To resolve this issue:
1. Uninstall the current drivers.
2. Shutdown and power off. Physically remove the audio card.
3. VERY IMPORTANT STEP: Boot at least once with the audio card removed.
4. Shutdown and power off. Re-install audio card.
5. Bootup. Re-install drivers.
At random, Windows would refuse to shut down, although it would cancel out the display. Hitting the power button it would bring the PC back to life in a state half in shutdown and half alive. Upon restart, Windows will refuse to detect my LAN driver. It wouldn't even show up on the device manager (not even as an unknown device).
I have Gigabyte G1 Assassin motherboard with BigFoot Network LAN card. To make the LAN work again, I have to delete the Big Killer Network software from my PC and re-install it again. But after two days, Windows will do the same thing all over again.

The drivers won't start at all. The built in USB3.0 hub is recognized and working flawlessly, but the USB display driver continues to report it can't be initiated as there's reg keys missing.
I've reinstalled the win7x64 drivers over the Windows 8 defaults but nothing is resolving. I'm trying to use either for extended viewing or as the primary display while at my desk.
I actually installed the Android on Intel Architecture onto my Samsung xe700t a few times over the last few months, adjusting windows 8 or android options to suit my needs, but a few days ago I decided to format my laptop and reinstall Windows 8 and reinstall Android as I have previously, I am now getting this error message at the very end of the android installation process:

After too many hours of reading and trying various things. It appears that Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) from USB 3G Modems has been broken in Windows 8.1.
On my Desktop PC, which uses Windows 2000 Server, I am able to share a Huawei E156B USB 3G Modem to 1 of the Ethernet ports to which is connected a Netgear Router with 4 LAN ports and a Wireless Antenna which broadcasts a signal that can be used by my smartphone.
On my recently acquired Lenovo B590 Laptop, I use the same SIM chip in a Huawei E3131 USB 3G Modem but have not been able to share the connection with the Ethernet port. I get the dreaded Unidentified Network and Limited connection statuses.
I tried the older modem but it doesn't appear to be compatible and I couldn't find any drivers for it for Windows 8.1.
I also tried sharing to an Ad Hoc Connection as the Laptop also has a Wireless NIC (Network Interface Card). The phone can see the signal broadcast by the Wireless NIC but is not able to communicate with the Internet.
I have tested the E3131 USB modem with the Netgear router with a friend's Dell Inspiron 1545 that has Windows Vista installed and I was able to establish the sharing of the Internet Connection to the Router and hence could also access the Internet with the smartphone.
As soon as I am able I will perform the same test on the Laptop, of another friend, which has Windows 7 installed.
Given that adding an Ad Hoc connection was removed from the GUI interface of Windows 8.1, I am wondering if Microsoft have made a huge "faux pas" in overlooking the need for, or eliminating without consultation, this functionality which has worked fine in previous versions of the Operating System. If so, what API would they be using to achieve this and could the same thing be achieved through the Command Prompt (with Administrator Privileges) using "netsh" (Network Shell) commands?
Does Virtual Router Manager is compatible with Windows 8.1 and is a viable solution to this problem?
Instead of an Ad Hoc connection being created, using the wireless NIC, can a secure Access Point be created to which the Modems connection could be shared? Can "netsh" commands be used to achieve this?
I have also seen articles about creating an Access Point but they are using the same "netsh" commands that I have seen mentioned for the creation of an Ad Hoc Network connection.
Therefore, any reliable and accurate resource for the creation of an Access Point using "netsh" commands?

Are there Routers with Wireless Output Antennas that can receive an inbound connection from a USB 3G Modem and then pass that connection to the PC/Laptop via the Ethernet port of the PC/Laptop as well as re-broadcast the signal via the output antenna?
If so, how do you manage activating the connection to the service provider of the USB Modem?
Can the connection software, that was installed when the USB Modem was connected to a USB port of the PC/Laptop, recognise that it is connected to the external router?
Even if it could, maybe the sharing of a connection would again be thwarted due to changes in the APIs of Windows 8.1.
It works fine in Win 7, but when I switched to Win 8 Release Preview bad things began to happen. First, it obviously didn't work. Then, all of the USB ports were disabled, even though they claimed they were operational. The only fix was a "Refresh" to get them back. Netzero will not except to say that Win 8 is not on the recommended software requirements.

It seems to default to Com 1 and my modem is on Com 4. So, how do I change the modem com port from Com 1 to Com 4? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 8 laptop with a 3G USB modem. I'm trying to share it's internet connection via my wifi network. The other two pc's on the network runs XP and Vista.
I've managed to get the network working, all pc's see each other and they can share files, etc, but just the damn internet won't share.
I've changed my router to use the same ip range as the wifi on the windows 8 pc, 192.168.137.x. I've ensured that the modem's network connection is shared. all the pc's belong to the same workgroup called, WORKGROUP.
In services i have ICS running, i've tried restarting this service.
What bothers me is that my wifi network on my windows 8 pc shows as "unidentified network", even though i have made sure that everything is set to shared that should be set to shared. so i don't know if that could be part of the problem?
I've also tried setting up the vista pc with a static ip and setting it's default gateway and primary dns to the same ip as the Windows 8 pc.

AT SECOND always works.
Two days ago my ISP replaced my modem-router for a new one. Ever since the replacement, my main desktop computer won't connect to the internet "immediately". I checked the connection via ethernet and WiFi with my other computers (even tested every single one of my ethernet cables) and they work perfectly fine, except for my main desktop computer.
What my desktop does:
When I turn it on I have to wait for around an hour before it connects to the internet. During that hour, it attempts to identify something (I guess the IP? - the yellow warning icon gets displayed) and after 3 seconds of attempting, the connection drops and it goes back to saying "No connection". The connection is being made via Ethernet cable and I tried the troubleshoot but it continues to say that I need to plug-in a ethernet cable to my computer, thing is it is already plugged in and like I stated above, the cable worked fine with all my other computers. My desktop used to work perfectly fine with my old modem-router.
I attempted to do do some troubleshooting refreshing my ip using the cmd with admin privileges but nothing worked as it said every time that there was no media connection. My desktop just randomly connects to the internet by itself after an hour of attempting to connect and disconnecting and once it gets connected it works perfectly fine until I restart my computer or turn it off and then the next day it'll be the same thing over again.
This has gotten extremely annoying, what can I do to fix this and further prevent it from happening? - I updated all my drivers and it's still the same. It'll just connect to the internet whenever it wants to.
So recently my windows 7's some system files got corrupt . won't start after windows logo (when the arrow shows up=>always bsod, even in safemode). so I decided to format C and install fresh windows 8.
Then I had four partitions C:windows(7) D:Softwares E:Games F:Mix Stuff.
My plan was to format C (of course for windows 8) and D (as C had only 20Gb space so I thought I would also format D 46Gb and give C 45Gb and D 20-21Gb as it was useless to me and contained only a bunch of crappy softwares ). Well, it FAILED here's how. after formatting C and D I deleted them thinking that boths unallocated space will merge. but it DID'NT.
After deleting I tried creating new partition on D but it FAILED "we cannot create create new partition" . Then I did same thing with C and it WORKED. I had to give it again 20Gb (maximum) - NO CHOICE. Then I installed Windows 8 on C. (thinking I will later format D on desktop)
Now here's the scenario : I DO NOT WANT TO FORMAT E: AND F: AS IT CONTAINS MY PRECIOUS DATA. After the startup config, 'Startup' came up I went to Desktop then Computer and then what????
WHERE THE HELL ARE OTHER PARTITIONS????????
Only C: I found there 7.67Gb free of 19.5GB.
Where are others gone .
I went to disk management and saw only (C:) other 138Gb (something) was unallocated space. Then I booted my pc from windows installation usb and on the drive screen I saw C 19.5-20Gb and Unallocated space 138Gb.
Here's the scenario...PC crashed, I get Toshiba splash screen at start up then nothing. With recovery stick I can get tools but cannot use them... I get either missing partition or hard drive locked message. I can get to command prompt though where it appears that the partition containing Windows is not being recognized at all...the size of the partition is not even showing up. This all started when I returned to my PC to find it unresponsive and had to power it off with the power button. PC was working fine for months after upgrading from Windows 7.

Having read much about the decision by Microsoft to withdraw support for dvd playback I have now installed both Windows Media Centre (via the free download/product key) and VLC player. However neither of these programmes will play nor recognise a dvd in the drive. Windows Media Centre reports
"WMC cannot detect a video dvd in the DVD-Rom drive. Insert a video DVD into the drive"
I have tried many dvds, all of which have been played by this system when Vista was the running OS. The dvd drive is recognised in Computer as "BD-RE Drive (G" and this moniker does not change when a dvd is inserted. Autoplay options never appear. When a cd is inserted to the drive the name of the dvd drive remains the same but "audio cd" appears after and the cd plays fine. In device manager the dvd drive appears as a

the drive "thinks" it's just a cd drive? Is that possible? I have uninstalled the drive and rebooted to re-install it with no effect on this problem. I've also tried the registry edit

Whenever I insert any Cd or DVD to my drive i get "Please enter a disc to H:/" ... I also tried Microsoft Troubleshooter but it didn't worked. My computer not even detect my CD.

Everything was ok with sound but now the computer doesn't detect any sound devices like amplifier, headphones, speakers, etc. The computer does find the audio card, but not devices.
View 8 Replies View RelatedEver since the latest WP update (currently on WP8.1 Update, firmware 3051.50009.1424.0003) my Windows 8.1 PC doesn't detect my Lumia. I get "The latest device malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. There is also Unknown USB device (Device descriptor request failed) listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers in Device manager. Nothing under Portable devices section.
What I have tried:
- replacing usb cable (using original one) -> no luck
- soft reset phone -> no luck
- turning the phone off and plug it in -> no go
- manually uninstalling the device from device manager, restarting the PC and try again -> nope
- plugged brother's lumia 930 -> works like a charm
I've got access to laptop, plugging my phone there and the same problem happens at first - the device can't be recognized but a few moments later somehow it gets recognized and connected. The problem seems to be on my PC, need to completely removing all the Phone drivers (including registry entries) so I can install them fresh?
Whenever I try to connect my flash drive, phone or digi cams. It can't detect anything then I saw this in device manager, is this the culprit?

I am using Windows 8.1x64 in UEFI mode. My motherboard is Gigabyte H77M-D3H. My hard disk is configured to use AHCI. A few days back I needed to use system restore from my repair disk because of a system crash. To my horror when I selected System Restore from my Windows repair disk it showed-:
"To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows Installation to restore. Restart this computer select an operating system, and then select system restore."
Now I don't have multiple Windows installations but I do have Debian Linux x64 dual booted with Windows 8.1. the Debian Linux also boots in UEFI mode. Is this problem caused by the fact that I am dual booting ? Has Linux dual booted, check if you can system restore from the windows repair disk.
I can perform a system restore from the inside of the OS fine. But I need it working from the outside also. What I have tried is running diskpart from the repair disk and selecting my partition on which Windows is installed and then running system restore but this had no effect. Can I boot up windows and then select to boot from my CD ? Like, before Windows completes booting I can have the repair disk boot up or something. Could it be that I am booting my CD in legacy rather than UEFI ?
PS-: My Windows 8 was upgraded from an installation of Windows 7. But I have already deleted the Windows.old folder in C drive.
For some reason Windows allows me to install Hotfixes that date back to August and even July! I know I installed those Hotfixes for a fact, but some recent updates reset all that. How to get the latest versions of everything at this point?

Steps I have taken: Troubleshooted connection, and received the following error: windows could not automatically detect network's proxy settings. Ran "network troubleshooter" and I think it reset the connection and said all was fine.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I'm trying to run dual OS on my new windows 8 machine. I made a bootable Ubuntu 14.04 usb stick using Rufus, disabled secure boot and proceeded in attempting to install the system. However, (settings->general->advanced startup->use a device) won't detect my bootable USB. It won't boot from it at startup either, no matter how much I fiddle with the UEFI settings.
Well, I guess that is not entirely true, as I managed to get it to boot and install ubuntu after switching the UEFI boot settings to legacy boot. But windows 8 does not work under that option, so I'm having to go and change the UEFI boot setting every time I wish to use a different OS.
