View 3 RepliesAs I'm used to having the address bar @ the top of the page, (like it is in the desktop version)..it looks like MS would have offered an option to do so in the 'metro' version. I hope that some user can come up with a 'hack' to get that done.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there an app or a way to move/create shortcut tiles on Start screen for Wireless section for Modern UI settings. I just bought TF810 (YUPI!!!) and would love to have quick access to those parts of the system (sort of as in WP 7.x/8).
Battery level shown on tile/start screen (it is only shown in detail on task bar) would also be useful. I keep searching for it but no luck so far ....
Assume Is started a new Win8 system. Then at first the tile/frames overview appear.
When I click now on one of the tiles/frames (e.g. fin, news,...) then I jump to the corresponding section. Fine.
But how do I return to the tiles/frames overview?
I tried ESC key but this didn't work.
I found no "RETURN to overview" link/button neither.
Whats the magic key press?
I was wondering if it is possible to use a URL instead of an IP address for a HTTP proxy? All HTTP proxies I have seen have all been IP addresses and I want to set one up on my Desktop at home and use one of my URL's as the proxy address. Isthis possible or does it have to be an IP?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have searched all the keywords I can think of & I can't seem to find this problem addressed anywhere. The type on my address toolbar in the taskbar is very faded. Almost like it's grayed out, but not quite. I had it do this when I first installed Win 8.1, messed with some settings, but none that seemed to make any sense & it went away. Now it's back & I haven't done any setting changes!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 pro. The install went well. During the post install I found that I could not use the numeric keys to enter numbers into my browser address bar. I tried all three browsers, Firefox, IE 10, and chrome. I tried a second keyboard with the same results. I verified that the system worked correctly at the OS level by entering numbers and special characters into notepad. There are several other places that the problem is present.
When I enter my password to get into Comcast webmail and when I enter a password containing either a number or special character in a prompt for accessing one of my network devices. Any problems with keyboard control after upgrading to win 8?
So it just seemed to happen the other day but when I go to search for something in the address bar it would normally search bing, however I noticed today it searches my ISP which is charter.
I tried going tools>manage add-ons>search providers but bing is the only one listed. Is their another way to get my address bar in IE11 to search bing every time?

Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (from the DHCP server) for the network card. The following error occurred 0x79. Your computer will continue to try to obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 8 which I have been using for 4 months now with little problem.
Last night I noticed the internet address bar does not have previously typed urls there no more, all it has is the start page url. So, when you click on the down arrow at the far right of the screen to select your previously entered address like say google.com, it shows nothing. So now every time I wish to visit a previously viewed page, I have to type in the url.
How can I correct this?

I got a new laptop with Windows 8 for Christmas. It was my first exposure to Windows 8 and I sailed through the installation/setup pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I've forgotten most of what I did and now I have a problem.
When I sign in to Windows 8, it shows me my main email address. But I've just moved and cancelled my account with that ISP. In another couple of days or weeks, the account will die and what will happen with regards to signing on to Windows 8. I assume I need to go to a website somewhere and re-register my laptop in some way to use a different email address.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with my Windows 8.1 Desktop (win 8.1 Pro with Media Center 64 bit) in that it is losing the IP address several times a day, which stops any browser from working. I fix this by entering "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" at the cmd prompt & restarting, but this is only temporary. For the past couple of days this has been occurring at 9am and 9pm. but for the prior week or so it was 12am or 6am. I can't work out what is causing this. This behavior began on 2/2 but no updates were done on that date. In the event log I find 4 event corresponding to the times I mention:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a wireless network which utilizes MAC address filtering for security purposes and WEP encryption. I have a MAC address which is white listed on the network and am successfully able to access it by spoofing in my windows XP PC.
However, windows 8 has been giving me headaches since the last week because it simply refuses to alter the mac address to anything with the first octet being '00'.
I am using Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 and TP Link WN7200ND devices. looking for a way in order to alter the MAC in my windows 8 or some way to scan the network with my windows XP PC and find out some other white listed MAC addresses from the router by LINUX or whatever means possible

It' say's that I can use my dashase@... gmail account then a Password - it has to be a EMail adress not a username? They want me to open a Outlook express or Hot mail account, or I can only have half a bummed out OS system thats the only thing it can be! They asked for all my personal details as well, which I gave and still no account? I believe I have tried at least 30 times to open a MS Account and I cant if I don't then Windows 8.1 is useless to me ???
