Security :: AVAST Antivirus Icon Not Showing In Notification Area?
Feb 15, 2014
Windows 8.1 upgraded from windows 8
So far I have Clicked the arrow to view Hidden icons (it is not visible)Click on Customize to Show icons and notifications (AVAST is not even on the list)Opened Action Center to see that AVAST is turned on and up to date
It was there and then it's gone. I have uninstalled it and then installed a new copy from a fresh download. Maybe this is something new but I feel a lot more secure with the icons showing.
Lenovo laptop with Win 8.1. I uninstalled the pre-installed McAfee anti-virus with:
- Uninstall McAfee in Programs and features - Reboot - Run the MCPR McAfee uninstall utility - Reboot (many times)
With that Windows Defender shows it is running, but there is no Icon in the notification area.Should there be an Icon in the Win 8 notification area, like Security Essentials in Win 7?
when I started my laptop this morning it told me that both my antivirus programs (windows defender and avast free) were both turned off and so I opened the action center to turn them on and than it does nothing. i'll tell it to turn them on but all it does is think for a moment than still says they are off. I don't know what I should do.
I just installed mouse software on my 8.1 Pro laptop. The software starts every time I start my computer and shows an icon in the taskbar. There is one very annoying thing that it does, when I first login to my computer the notification icon for the mouse software pops up a window saying that it's running:
I opened Customize Notification Area to see if I could turn off notifications BUT keep the icon there (so I can right-click it and open the software).
I noticed there is no option to "Show Icon And Hide Notifications".
So the only way i can keep that annoying popup message from appearing every time I login is to hide everything. But then, as I said above, I won't be able to right click the icon and start the software.
Is there a way I can show icons but hide notifications?
I noticed when I was looking at the custom notification area window that there were entries for programs that I no longer have on my machine:
I have installed a new program (Soundswitch) that I want to keep and I need it running in the background. What I don't need is the icon in the notification area. I only use the program's keyboard shortcut and have no need for the GUI. I keep my notification area very clean and only have icons for the three things I actually use in it. Most programs offer a way to disable their own notification icon, but this one does not. And, unfortunately, hiding the icon through the Windows 8 options created another icon (arrow), which I don't want either.
Is there a way that I can keep the program running but have the icon removed from the notification area?
I have so many in there that are listed from software i tried out and no longer use but the name is still listed there that i do not want listed. Is there a way to delete them for good?
I am running Windows 8.1 Pro X64. Recently I have noticed that Notification Area Icons for some apps have disappeared.
A reinstall or a repair install sometimes brings them back but then they disappear after a while, and usually after the next reboot.
Have checked forums for the affected products and the only solution offered there is reinstall or repair install. I very much doubt that this issue is down to the products. It is almost certainly a Windows problem but of course Windows Tech Support offers nothing other than the usual banal references to largely irrelevant "how to" articles.
Is there a way to change what temp is being displayed in the notification area? In mine, it showing 31 degrees which is associated to Temp1 and HD1...being both are the same. I would like it to display my CPU temp.
I have already installed kaspersky internet security latest version but my Friend gave me eset smart security so i want to check it in my pc without removing kaspersky. because i may not have internet connection all the time and i have updated kaspersky today after the long time waiting.
#I will install eset and disable the kaspesky or i will not run kaspersky #will resister eset and check its feature without opening or making active # after comparing the features and performance i will uninstall one of the antivirus and keep another one there...
now my question is ...does it harm pc or effects the performance of kaspesky even after eset is uninstalled?
note that i will not run any scan of both antivirus at the same time.....more over i will not perform from....
i googled but every one say about conflicting of antivirus but i repeat i will not run both scan at one, finally after the removal of one anti virus ..remaining one will be perfect as earlier?
After weeks of stable computer use, I tried using Avast once again, but I noticed when I restarted, my USB mouse no longer worked. I moved it to another USB slot and it worked, so I didn't worry about it.
Then today, I noticed that the two front USB slots on my computer weren't reading anything. I remembered this problem started when I started using Avast, so I uninstalled Avast and presto, I regained usage of my USB ports upon reboot.
How to keep AVAST from turning off the ports? I couldn't see anything on google offhand. If not, I may just go back to Windows Defender.
why i carn't install AVG anti virus 2013 on windows 8.think i had this discussion only 12 months ago but had to go back to windows 7 but someone shown me how to install AVG 2013 on windows 8..
My full version of Avast has expired, but I will just keep the limited free version.I am reminded every hour with a pop upbox(bottom right) to renew Avast(for a price). How can I stop this Avast popup boxfrom reoccurring without uninstalling Avast.
We're having an issue on Dell Latitude 10 tablet which seems to be hard to resolve. I've configured Windows reader as default program for all PDF files. When opening PDF files in a Powerpoint presentation the following Microsoft Office notification pops up:
Opening XXX Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a thrustworthy source. Would you like to open this file? OK/CANCEL
When clicking OK, the file opens. It is asked every time when opening a PDF link in the presentation. Same issue when you configure Adobe reader touch as default. When setting Adobe Reader XI as default, you don't get the message. But then, we don't want the files to open in that last one.
We've been searching to resolve this in the powerpoint options e.g., but without success.
So, it used to be okay on Windows 7, but now the iPhone icon is not showing up in Windows Explorer or in "Devices and Printers".
[URL] ..... Picture of my computer with no iPhone image. [URL] ..... Devices and Printers (See the Kodak icon? That's how I want my iPhone 4S' icon to be)
OS is Windows 8.1 Pro with all the latest updates.
Changing the win defender icon I got 4 available options:just wondering if that means there's some way too see all of them in the taskbar changing in real time depending on the pc status or the program running
Okay. basically I think I tried everything, this is so stupid but it's a real problem look at the picture down below, how do you remove the shield? so it's back to normal it's quite annoying.
I cannot connect to internet after uninstalling my Avast 8 (Exact version 8.0.1487). I even tried uninstalling it from their uninstallation tool in Windows 8 Safe Mode, still had the same problem.
On troubleshooting, this is what I was shown "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I also tried flushing DNS, etc but with no luck. However when I reinstall Avast, internet starts working again.
I am using a DSL connection with internet cable which goes directly to the back of my CPU and I don't have any modem device in my house.
How do I completely remove Avast 8 and get my internet back?
I notice a short flicker from desktop icons when you press the "win+d" short cut. Sometimes some application windows also flicker when you use this short cut.
I guess the reason is some kind of refresh for the icons, actually it seems to be the same behaviour when you use the context menu on the desktop (right mouse click) and use the command "refresh".
It can easily be seen when you are on the desktop with all it's icons and have a small window open and then press win+d a couple of times. The Icons refresh and therefore flicker. That should be smoothed out.I notice this behaviour in Windows 8, Win7, XP.
This is no problem with a similar command in OSX or Ubuntu.
Windows 8. In windows 7 when I switched from dual display to single display all windows stayed exactly where they were so when I switched back to dual display everything was were it supposed to be (i.e. chat windows + music player on side display)
In windows 8 each time I do that (switch from double display) all windows from second display are moved to the main/only one and upon switching back they are not moved back which is...
Can I somehow make windows 8 to behave like win 7?!
My "Notification Area Icons" was not working right, so I opened it and checked the box "show all icons and notifications on the task bar" and it did.... Now my task-bar is crowded with all these icons and so I must put them back. The problem is, I have tried clicking all over the task bar but can't find the tool/option to do it.
I've had this problem for a few days now and I've been trying to figure out how to fix it, but I'm beat. Here's my SF_Diagnosis logs!
Anyways, I get the BSOD whenever I shutdown or restart my computer, which it'll then restart my computer. In order to turn it off, I have to hold the power button.
