I was happily using file history, it was backing up to my G partition, which is located on my second hard drive (both drives are internal)but now I get error message:
I think the problem is that this partition got added to my user, that's what the network path shows:
How do I get it out of my user, and back on a normal path?
I need configuring file history. I want to have it store files on a shared folder in a local hard rive but I want that folder to be inaccessible to other computers on my home network.
Now its fairly easy to set up a shared folder on a local drive and store file history there but the problem is that other computers can see all my files. I tweaked the sharing permissions on my folder so I removed the 'Everyone' user and put in my user name (which is an admin) and set the permissions to full control. Despite setting the permissions to only my user account, other computers are still able to open the shared file history folder and view and edit its contents.
I can't disable file sharing all together because then it would defeat the purpose of what I am trying to do and also I have another computer on my network store its files on my computer through file history.
In my network 4 Desktop running windows XP all are connected LAN cable and my modem is tplink and 1 laptop running windows 8.1 pro accessing network through wireless in my laptop network place all the pcs are visible but I am not able to ping them and when I click I am getting message that Network path not found Error code 0x80070035

When I go to explorer, there is a delay before the other PC shows up and yet another delay when I select to browse that PC. If I close and go back I'll often get this error code and then there are time when I get the code on the first try. These PCs are running Windows 8.1 Pro and powered on 100% of the time. I noticed this nonsense while on Windows 7 as well.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am getting the errors Could Not Enable File History: The System Cannot Find the File Specified and File History Doesn't Recognize This Drive. I tried deleting the File History folders on the external drive and in the AppData folder (although the File History folders never contain any files, they are always empty). I tried sharing the File History folder on the external drive with Everyone. Nothing has worked.
I've also tried to select another drive or reselect the external drive; I get the message "We found some files you previously copied using File History" and asks if I would like to move them. It won't let me choose No, i.e. choosing No has the same effect as choosing Cancel. If I choose yes, I get an error message saying it can't complete the migration. It seems like I need to reset File History somehow and maybe get rid of these leftover files (although I don't know where they would have come from, because I don't think I've ever turned on File History in the past, but I could be wrong there.) At any rate I don't know where these leftover files would be located because I've already deleted every File History folder I could find (in AppData and on external drive).
I have to computers connect to a network. On one computer, I can access the other, but can't do the same on the other. I used to be able to but now I get the error that the path could not be found. how to get this to start working?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI re-installed Windows 8 yesterday evening (thought it would be quicker than to cleanup and fix my old install) and then directly upgraded it to Windows 8.1. The problem I am experiencing is quite weird: The Operating System doesn't detect the network cable.
With that being said, do not jump straight to the "Did you turn it on and off again" questions. Here is what I have done so far:
Hardware-Side: Cross-check the cable with another computer --> Working fineCross-check the wall plug with another computer --> Working fineTest the connection with the BIOS's connection diagnostic utility --> Link detected
Software-Side: Checking if Windows was up to date --> Nothing to updateUpdating the motherboard's BIOS --> Not betterUpdating the LAN's drivers with the ones I found on the manufacturer's website --> Not better
I am wondering what is wrong with my installation. It was working A1 a few days ago, except for the issues I re-installed the operating system for.
my network connection on my laptop. I recently moved up to my college and am now on their network. However, I didn't have this problem at first. But recently if I go to my network connections, there is always a wired connection listed named "Unidentified Network" which has "Limited" access. The problem here is that I am not connected to any wired networks. There is no cable plugged into my computer so I don't understand how this is possible. The only thing I have installed recently is Virtualbox, just in case that could affect it.

However, after running that script and restarting, it is unable to set the IP address (See screenshot).
Also, there are many logs in Event Viewer which says this: The DHCP allocator has disabled itself on IP address 169.254.212.34, since the IP address is outside the 192.168.137.0/255.255.255.0 scope from which addresses are being allocated to DHCP clients. To enable the DHCP allocator on this IP address, change the scope to include the IP address, or change the IP address to fall within the scope.
I need to get this hosted network up and running!
I really like the way Skydrive synchronises my folders between my work and home laptops and I have my Skydrive docs available offline. But why is Skydrive excluded from the list of libraries that are backed up by File History. I want to be able to back my docs up onto an external hard drive. Is there no way of doing this? Same with Backup on Windows 7, Skydrive seems to be excluded.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 PC's. Both are now running Windows 8. The main PC was running Windows 7 and I there mapped a network drive (z to the Windows 8 PC. It worked very nice. The second PC was also shown in "networks" in "my Computer" right after boot of Main PC. So network for sharing is set up properly on second PC.
After installing Windows 8 on main PC, it is still working, but the time spend waiting for the network drive is waaaaay longer now. The name of second PC "Photo-PC", is shown right after boot, but when I first click on the name, and get this error:
Networkpath not found. Errorcode 0x80070035
If I then wait about 20-30 seconds and then click again on "Photo-PC" then I have access to all shared drives, included my mapped network drive Z:
How can I eliminate this 20-30 seconds delay after boot?
I have given up setting up a homegroup, never had it to work, but "oldfashioned" network drives used to work
I upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and I can no longer see the files inside the folders on my networked drive. Before I upgraded I could see them, after the upgrade - not so much. The folders are fine, I can see them, just no files visible. There's no network issues as the files are visible from my Win7 machines and my wife's Windows 8 machine. All the standard default sharing and viewing settings are correct. Even if I put the direct path in File Explorer is tells me there's nothing there. I'm absolutely baffled. I have never seen this particular type of sharing issue before. I'm a pretty savvy Network Admin so the basic troubleshooting (and standard sharing settings) has been covered.

I found the "Map Network Drive" button at the top of my folder. I click on "Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures". I follow through "Choose a custom network location"
At "Internet or network address" I type the url where I would log into box through the internet: [URL] .....
At next I get the login prompt, so I login, clicking "Remember my credentials" , when it returns, indicating that my login is incorrect the number of letters in my password has doubled, so of course my password is incorrect if the "network drive" is adding a bunch of extra characters.
So I go back and click on "connect using different credentials" and get the same result ....
I was wondering if it was possible to share an internal hard drive over the homegroup network or any other possible way that I can view video files on it on my tv?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find a solution to transferring large files (100+GB) between myself and a client of mine at a different location through the internet. The easiest one I have found was through a Private Network through Logmein's Hamachi, as you can browse other connected computers' files through this network.
Of course, to show the shared drives by the host computer, you need to input a username and password through the UAC. Obviously, if I insert my own username and password, I can see the folders I've shared. However, how do I configure a username/password for my client? Are these users the same as local users? I would like to avoid having to make a local user for him on my own computer.
Just for reference, I have no control over my network I am connected to, so no FTP, no port forwarding etc.

I have two computers on a large desk side by side. Both are running Windows 8.1
I have a drive on computer A which I want to be able to access on computer B.
I have gone into advanced sharing for the drive and enabled sharing. However, when I go to map the drive on computer B, I get an error that I don't have permission to access that drive.
What am i missing here? Neither computers are using logins/passwords for the admin user account.
Been having trouble this morning with my network drive in my Home Server. It normally connects fine at startup and it all of a sudden wont work.
I have isolated it to my Desktop as i can connect off of my Laptop fine.
The name of my server is Homeserver(192.168.1.77) and I have shared a folder inside the drive rather than the drive its self. This image shows how I'm trying to connect to the folder. And this is the error I'm getting
I have tried:
Resetting ip / dns flushing etc.
sfc /scannow (Says everything is fine.)

I can add and use files from a laptop I have on windows 7. However on my desktop running windows 8, I cannot add files to the hard drives attached to my network.
I currently have the Western Digital N700 router, with 1 3 tb backup drive attached.
I can get videos from it or other files, however I cannot add. When I go to drag and drop I am getting the circle with a / through it.
Its difficult to have to use a different computer to upload files.
I use a network hard drive connected to my router for media storage, and it never had any problems when I ran Windows 7. I recently upgraded one PC to Windows 8, and now that PC cannot connect to the network drive. The drive does not show up under "Network" in the explorer sidebar.
It still shows up as a mapped drive under "Network Locations," (which was set up before the upgrade) but Windows 8 sees it as Offline. The drive still works perfectly with the other PCs in the house (all of which still run Windows 7), so it definitely seems to be a problem with 8. What might have changed between 7 and 8 that is preventing the PC from seeing the network drive?
Edit: It may add that all of the PCs and the network drive are connected to the router via ethernet cable (in other words, it's not a wifi issue), and the Windows 8 PC can see the other PCs on the network with no problem.
I moved File History from one drive (E) to another (F) and although FH shows in F drive, it isn't recognized in "select a drive" in FH. The only option shown is a new drive (G) I installed for Media Recording only and the FH folder isn't there at all. How do I get FH the F drive to be recognized to enable for backup?

Most noticeable are Nitro PDF Professional which doesn't always start when I click on a PDF file, sometimes it does, some times it doesn't. Quicken is often slow to start, some times the window opens then it waits for the display, sometimes the there is a wait until the window even opens. Same for xplorer2 opening and even selecting another folder. Going back to Windows 7 with almost the identical installed programs/utilities (about 40) the "problem" goes away.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter much thought I recently did a fresh install of my OS everything was working before just wanted a fresh start.
Since I did the fresh install I'm getting wifi doesn't have a valid up configuration.
This is on a desktop and I can't use a wired connection also I have tried resetting the router. And refreshing windows 8 again.
Recently I have been intermittently getting disconnected from the internet while gaming / streaming. If I ran the troubleshooter, the error that I got was "Default gateway not available". Resetting my router/modem and restarting the PC every time it happened seemed to resolve this for a while. and is now accompanied by another error saying that "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. This is much more frequent now, every 10-20 minutes or so. I am on wired internet coming from the combo router/modem from my ISP/Cable co.
Attached is my ipconfig /all while working and after the error.
I know I have the password right and I am definitely in range. Other devices work on the network also. I have the network diagnostics report and a screenshot of my IP configuration included.

I have a NAS on my network and I can easely access it in my typing in a password and an username. So far so good. What bothers me is that every time I reboot I have to retype user and password like the first time! How can I make Windows remember this kind of password?

This opens a dialog box where I select a Drive letter of my choice. After clicking Finish I'm prompted with a Windows Security dialog box with Username / Password fields. I enter them using my MS Account credentials but I get an 'Access is denied' error. Screen shot attached.

My PC rig has a 240GB SSD (C drive) and a 1TB HDD (D drive) - both internal obviously - but I don't quite understand why there's no way to use the D drive to make a complete backup copy of both the system and the Documents folder, etc. that are on the C drive. I clicked here and there and somehow ended up creating a backup copy (a folder called "WindowsImageBackup") on the D drive but that seems to be a copy of the Windows system only and excludes the Documents folder. how to make the file history work so as to make the complete backup on the D drive?
