Network / Sharing :: No Wireless Tab - Unable To Connect
Aug 18, 2013Just setup a N router, works OK with Laptop with Win 8, but unable to connect with Win 8 Desktop. Have entered router keys OK but nothing pops up to click to connect. Been into (Settings) then (Change PC Settings), but no Wireless tab in setting. Type in wireless, PC checks (No wireless). I have Win 8 Disk, can I load wireless driver from Disk if yes how.

Jan 5, 2014This is a random issue, sometimes I can connect just fine, and usually a restart of my laptop lets me connect.
However sometimes when I try to enter the password it does not work. I get the error message 'the network security key is not correct. Please try again.'
I know for a fact that my password is correct, and sometimes it works, allowing me to choose whether I want to 'find PC's, devices and content on this network' etc.
Regardless of whether I click yes or no at this point I don't connect. And instead I am getting to this screen below. What to enter as my username and password. As nothing to do with my wireless network has this requirement.

Nov 26, 2012I bought an Asus G75vw couple days back with windows 8. Everything was working fine except that i couldn't connect to my wireless router. It had a WEP encryption. After I entered the Network Security key, I Kept on getting "Can't connect to this network", troubleshooting didn't work either. Then I updated all drivers from Asus support website and it connected after a restart. I was quite delighted but the next day again i got the "cant connect to this network" message. So I changed my encryption to WPA2-PSK (AES) and even updated the firmware of my router. Still no luck.

Dec 7, 2012I prefer to keep my home WiFi network from public view by disabling the SSID broadcast, i.e "hiding" the network.
With two modem/routers (a Belkin Play Max F7D4401 ADSL modem/router and now a Cisco EPC2325 DOCSIS modem/router) on two computers (home-built desktop and Acer TM8172T notebook), after the initial connection Windows 8 Pro would not reconnect without tediously re-entering the SSID name and password. Once it does connect, it displays the original SSID name with a new one with an incrementally increasing appended number like:
I was manually deleting them all (except the original) using netsh, until I realized you can <right-click> on an entry in the screen above and choose "Forget this network."
This is the process I go through each time to re-connect. Is there something I'm missing?
I read that if Windows 8 saves too many WiFi connections, it cannot "remember" them to automatically reconnect to them, so on the notebook, I deleted all but wpcTrue (the original), and it now automatically reconnects, although occasionally it will add a new connection with an incrementally increased number -- currently the notebook shows both wpcTrue and wpcTrue 2. I had used the notebook on the road, so had about five WiFi connections saved. On the Desktop my home network is the only WiFi connection I've ever made. However, no matter what I do on the desktop, it NEVER remembers to automatically log on when the SSID is not broadcast.
I even tried manually setting up a connection via Network and Sharing Center > Set up a new connection or network, to no avail -- the desktop computer will not automatically reconnect.
I doubt that this is relevant, but the Belkin modem/router, the Belkin USB adapter I use on my desktop computer, and the notebook's Broadcom internal modem are all b/g/n. The Cisco modem/router is b/g.
If I "unhide" the SSID, i.e. broadcast the SSID, all is well in the world. Both computers automatically reconnect to the modem/router. If I hide the SSID, and then disconnect or reboot, the desktop computer will not automatically reconnect.
I just noticed that the pop up WiFi connection column shows "WiFi-2 Off" -- what does the "Off" mean?
And, why is it "-2" ? My notebook just shows "WiFi', period. (The first image with "WiFi (Off)" was from a previous Windows 8 installation on the desktop computer. I decided to change from EFI-boot to non-EFI so reinstalled Windows 8. I simply used the old image as a quick way to show how the connection name assignment runs away.)
Network / Sharing :: Random Network Disconnect To Wireless Network Printer?
Feb 27, 2013This morning I installed an optional update from Windows Update. It was Ralink Technology WLAN 802.11 wireless LAN card.
Since then, when I try to print to my wireless network printer, the network would disconnect then come back on after a while. The update shows up in Update History as successfully installed but not in the installed updates. System restore is of no support here. The network configuration page shows normal. The web does not appear to be affected. I made a new network connection for the printer but it did not work.
Is there a way to reverse this update or should I uninstall the 802.11 LAN card and let windows re-install anew.
The printer is a HP Officejet Pro 8600e

Apr 13, 2014Since a few weeks, I have a problem with my laptop running Windows 8.1 (Toshiba Satellite P50-A-12PBE). Sometimes, after bringing Windows back from sleep mode, I seem to have no connection to the internet. Windows says the connection is 'limited', wether I'm connected with a wire or wireless. Resetting the router doesn't solve anything, but rebooting my pc does. Since both the wired and wireless network are always simultaneously affected, I think this hasn't anything to do with drivers (I already have the latest versions by the way). I have made screenshots with ipconfig-results when I'm connected with a wire.

Dec 30, 2013I have a lenovo G505 laptop - it will no longer connect to my BT home hub despite it showing as being available. I suspect it might be to do with the fact that it is has a passkey - I entered it yesterday when prompted and it connected fine, but now I'm not being given the option of entering the key.
I've also tried connected using the BT wifi (as opposed to homehub) but once again it will not connect me. I've been through all the troubleshooting options, and searched under every term I can think of, but nothing is working.

Feb 16, 2013I cannot connect to my wireless anymore (all other devices in my home do) since windows has automatically installed the drivers for my canon printer.
In PC setting i do not have the button wireless anymore (i am pretty sure that i had it last week). Wi-Fi (Qualcomm Atheros AR964x) is in my network connections, but cannot connect. Diagnoses says problem with wireess adapter or access point.
So what did i do until now : I have restarted the whole interne installation ( rounter, and all other devices) many times Atheros driver is up to date and device status is "working properly"
i dont know anymore what to do more (except switching to linux and not being able to use some commerical software i rely on for my work) :-(

Feb 4, 2014So I'm rolling along the internet and I start noticing that the wifi bars in the lower corner have gone down to 4. My internet is running slower and when I log on and play online games, the local server which gave me a 50 ping is now jumped up to about 300-800 easily...
So I run trouble shooter (and malware bytes) and this gem pops up:
"Windows cannot automatically detect this network's proxy settings."
I run google chrome as my internet browser, but as of late Norton has been blocking chrome and my wife started using Internet Explorer...but when we disable Norton, Chrome works fine.

May 28, 2014I'm using Windows 8.1 Professional. After the update to 8.1, I can't connect to my network printer which is connected to a Windows XP Home machine. Everything was working before the upgrade. I can currently see, connect, access and modify files on all the computers. I keep getting a message that I don't have permission to access the printer and I can't access the permissions on the Windows XP computer. I'm also using a Windows 7 computer which has no problem accessing the printer.

Problem:- Can't switch on wifi. The on/off switch is grayed out. While troubleshooting, it says, " wireless capability is turned off".
Solutions Tried:- Re-installed drivers provided by lenovo's website.
Re-installed drivers by windows update.
Reset settings in Bios to default values.
Yes the physical switch is on and the indicator light is glowing.
Fn+ F5 just toggles on/off airplane mode.
Disabled the option so that power management doesn't switches off wifi to save battery.
Other numerous solutions on internet.
The wifi worked flawlessly in windows 7. I even used it as a hotspot (via cmd method).

Apr 22, 2014I have problem wit limited wireless connectivity on my laptop (Samsung) but also on my iPhone 4 and my wife`s LG optimus 5 duo all at the same time. I changed yesterday my router speedport which performed wireless connectivity problems, with a same one- and the problem is actually the same.For every 30 minutes I have limited access on my laptop, iPhone 4 and LG 5. If i restart the router it is OK for a while, and then again the same story. Someone told me to switch off wireless option on both phones, which made connectivity normal on my Samsung laptop.
I repeated, I changed two routers and the problem persists.

Nov 13, 2013After a while when i'm browsing the web etc, my wireless connection goes to Limited and there are no other wireless networks available (when there should be 10+ networks).
When i disconnect that limited connection, there are suddenly no networks found and my wireless adapter disables itself and i can't re-enable it anymore. The only thing to restart my computer.
This occures after a couple of minutes. I had this problem before, but then it fixed itself for a couple of weeks and now i have the same problem again.
I've tried reinstalling my drivers, but doesn't do the trick..

Jun 20, 2014I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y500 laptop running Windows 8.1. i7, 8BG ram, 2GB Nvidia card--all that stuff. It ran perfectly for nearly a year. But now, the local area network is broken. I haven't done anything different or changed anything that would affect it, as far as I know. But now that it's summer, I have lots of free time but I can not lan any games with people, which sucks. So I googled and googled, tried the netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt (or whatever it is), tried ipconfig resets and stuff, and none of that works. The wireless lan adapter Media State is still "Media disconnected."
I took this screenshot AFTER I did OneKey Recovery (which is a factory reset). It set my computer back to the original settings: Windows 8, full of bloatware, etc. I did this reset last night, updated it, updated it to Windows 8.1, updated Windows 8.1, and finally, before I went to bed, tested the LAN. It worked, I was able to connect to my Dad's Minecraft world. So I set my laptop to start re-downloading my games (reset deleted all my data), and when I opened it up this morning to play Minecraft with my family, the LAN was not working again. I couldn't connect (or even find) the lan games.

Dec 7, 2013I am using a Windows 8 pro pc connected to the internet wireless. My modem is a 802.11g and my speed should be 8 mb down 1 mb up. However, on the PC I am only getting 1.2mb down, 0.5 mb up on speedtest. When I open a W7 HP laptop, I do get about 8 mb down as stated. Weirdly it is only affecting my pc. I have run the test continuously between the PC and the laptop and the laptop perform better. Tried IE and FF, the speed is slow. My PC specs should be good enough for a fast connection. No folding or torrent or whatever is running in the background, yet the pc is slow. The ping time is faster than the laptop at 42 ms.

I prefer using the wireless connection on my PC, although I do have an active wired connection. Is there a setting somewhere that disables the wired connection automatically when the wireless is active, and also switches back to wired if the wireless disconnects? I have looked into Group Policy Editor at the wireless and wired LAN settings under Network Connections, but don't see any setting to do this automatically.

Oct 27, 2013I have a Netgear WN111 wireless adapter on my PC. Since installing Windows 8.1 it doesn't connect automatically to the router. The PC says there are no connections available, so I can't even click on the router to try to connect. If I pull the adapter out and push it back into the USB port it connects automatically. Also, when I switch the PC off, the LED on the adapter continues to flash, so I have to pull it out and plug it in again to stop that. I've tried troubleshooting, compatibility check, reinstalling the driver and uninstalling the driver and getting Windows to install one itself.

Network / Sharing :: HP Pavilion G6 Wireless Randomly Disconnecting
Jan 19, 2013So I've had a new HP Pavilion G6 for several weeks. In the last three days, every few hours it will randomly disconnect, and won't re-connect unless I restart my computer. The other laptop in the house is not having any problems, so I don't think it's the router. I tried re-installing the WiFi driver but it's still doing it.
In my Events Log I notice that before each disconnect there's an unidentified event with the Intel Wireless as a source: "The description for Event ID 5007 from source NETwNe64 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer."
I checked previous threads on random disconnects but they all seem to deal with a connection that disconnects every few minutes, not hours.
