Network / Sharing :: Windows 8.1 Deleting Wireless Adapters?
Jul 1, 2014
I'm using a relatively new HP Split X2 (bought new in Dec.), and almost every day I lose internet connection due to wireless adapters being missing. I have only been using the computer to watch Netflix and listen to music. Usually the internet disconnects in the middle of an episode on Netflix, and after being on hold with HP for over an hour tonight

I have suddenly had a strange problem occur. Everytime I restart my Windows 8.1 desktop my internet connection speed drops from it's normal 50Meg to around 3Meg when running any speedtest programme. The only way to cure this is to uninstall & re-install my network adapters through device manager. All is ok then until my next reboot & then it all happens again. It is the same on both the Ethernet connection & the wireless adapter. I have tried re-installing drivers etc to no avail. Something strange about my network setup. I have also ran various virus scans but nothing showed up.
This suddenly started last Saturday & I cannot see what could of caused it, haven't installed any new programmes or anything.
All my other devices are ok including a Windows 8.1 laptop.

Using Windows 8.0 all up to date. I am trying to set up a DD-wrt router with a default IP Address of 192.168.1.1 which is also the default Gateway.
The previous router had 192.168.0.1 as the Gateway and I had given the laptop I am using a static IP of 192.168.0.10
When I try to access the DD-wrt it starts to work OK, but then hangs. I checked the "Properties" for the Network card and it keeps putting the old Static IP back. I go to Advance and Remove the old IP address, but it stuffs the old one back in again.
I tried using ipconfig /release but it says it can't do anything without the device connected. I feel like I am in a Hamster wheel from the Twilight Zone.
This is what "Properties" looks like after I make the changes.
192.168.1.11
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
As soon as I click OK for that dialog and the next one, it goes back to
192.168.0.10
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
If I go to "Advanced" both IP addresses are shown. I click "Remove" for the 0.10 and it removes it. Click OK twice and go back and the damned thing is back 0.10 and two IPs in the Advanced list again.
If I clear all adapters and set them all to "Auto IP address" I still cannot access the DD-wrt.
Is there some way to forcefully remove all stored IP addresses for the selected-Network adapters?

I am trying to delete some network connections that I have never used, how they came into being. They are NGSKM, TRENDnet and G4257
They don't appear in net show: netsh wlan show profiles
The only one that appears is ZFHL2, our local network.
Of course, they are not found if I try to delete them with: netsh wlan delete profile name="TRENDnet"
How do I delete them ?

This morning I installed an optional update from Windows Update. It was Ralink Technology WLAN 802.11 wireless LAN card.
Since then, when I try to print to my wireless network printer, the network would disconnect then come back on after a while. The update shows up in Update History as successfully installed but not in the installed updates. System restore is of no support here. The network configuration page shows normal. The web does not appear to be affected. I made a new network connection for the printer but it did not work.
Is there a way to reverse this update or should I uninstall the 802.11 LAN card and let windows re-install anew.
The printer is a HP Officejet Pro 8600e

I have a Gateway NV52L15U amd a8-based 15" laptop with win 8.it works pretty well except for a few things that I suspect are related, and I suspect all three are due to how 8 is managing the drivers of the devices
- Network performance, in terms of starting up, latching the WIFI AP successfully, and getting online, is unreliable. oddly, it seems that it does not like disabling the Ethernet [CAT5] device, leaving the WIFI enabled. If I leave both enabled, wifi performance seems more stable [gaining and holding the connection]
- When I disable the CAT5 connection using the windows 8 adapter settings pane, the utility will hang, but not consistently. sometimes it hangs until it is forced to stop via taskmanager or restart, but not always. sometimes it merely takes a VERY long time - showing the hated hourglass while it takes as long as 7-8 minutes.
- Shutdowns and/or restarts can take an extremely long time. However, it seems again that if both network adapters are enabled [builtin wifi and builtin Ethernet] the reboot or shutdown seems to go a bit more normally.
- Sometimes the WIFI will not actually connect, as evidenced by IE and/or Chrome being unable to access the network. if I check windows using the taskbar widget, it will show the system "Connected to .." the AP and having "Internet Access". That little utility is mis-reporting. When I DISABLE the WIFI adapter via control panel util, the little taskbar widget may, or may not, still show the WIFI Device as "Connected".... I assume that the adjustment of that feedback mechanism is caught waiting for something, so slow to respond to the disabling of the device
Yes, I have uninstalled via windows both devices AND their drivers, and reinstalled each using fresh, checked driver files from Gateway/Acer. all the issues were there before and after.

Since a few weeks, I have a problem with my laptop running Windows 8.1 (Toshiba Satellite P50-A-12PBE). Sometimes, after bringing Windows back from sleep mode, I seem to have no connection to the internet. Windows says the connection is 'limited', wether I'm connected with a wire or wireless. Resetting the router doesn't solve anything, but rebooting my pc does. Since both the wired and wireless network are always simultaneously affected, I think this hasn't anything to do with drivers (I already have the latest versions by the way). I have made screenshots with ipconfig-results when I'm connected with a wire.

I have a PC and a tablet, both of which have Windows 8.1 installed, and are regularly updated. I prefer using the wireless connection on my PC, although I do have an active wired connection. Is there a setting somewhere that disables the wired connection automatically when the wireless is active, and also switches back to wired if the wireless disconnects? I have looked into Group Policy Editor at the wireless and wired LAN settings under Network Connections, but don't see any setting to do this automatically.

I have a neighbor who has an OPEN network called @HOMED689 . For some reason my Windows 8 machines keep trying to connect to this SSID automatically.
I've never tried to connect to it. Once it's connected however, with limited connectivity, I don't have the ability to right click on it and say "Forget this network" or do anything to it such as when I connect to another wireless it says:
Show Estimated Data Usage
Set as Metered Connect
Forget this Network
View Connection Properties
Nothing.

I just got a computer that comes with Windows 8 and I'm trying to get on the internet with the wireless adapter I was using on the old computer but I keep getting an error message. I am able to install it from the disc but when I go to run the program it says "Can't load ProcNICs.dll" This is the adapter I am using (version 4). The most recent driver the website lists for this adapter is for Vista. Is there a way to get this to work?

In prior versions of Windows before Windows 8, it was very easy to refresh your network list. This would allow you to see ALL of wireless networks in your area that your WiFi card could detect.
My Windows 8 only allows me to see the wireless networks that it wants me to see.
How do I see all Windows 8 networks within range? I have searched but I cannot find anything.

This is a 6 month Old Gateway Laptop, Windows 8 preinstalled. Broadcom Network Adapter.
I have a Buffalo WZR-300GB Router (2.4mHz, with 802.1/ 11g/b/n) all working. There are 4 wired and 3 wireless computers on the network. Wife's Gateway (Windows 8) is the ONLY one with [wireless]dropped connections. No MOVE has been made with Her Laptop or the Router.
This is the troubleshooting I've have done so far.
Uninstalled/reinstalled network adapters.Reset the adapters. Scanned Hardware changes (before/after) in the Device ManagerTurned off Power Management.Disabled the Lan (wired) connection-adapter.Removed (Forget this Connection) 2 other wireless connections from outside the home.Wireless Adapters are set to "Maximum Performance" under (edit power plan).Moved to Laptop (actually the 1st thing I did) to 2 different locations with same results, dropped connection.Under settings the Topology is all Checked, Except 2 I have never seen before. Multi-Layer Protocol, and Kernel 64 something. Anyway, when I insert a check mark next to both. I'm Prompted "Do you really want to disable this connections?" I have done both (checked/unchecked) nothing changes.Under Device Manager: Restore all Hidden Adapters, About Five More adapter showed up I had never seen before. So then I Scanned for Hardware Changes. No effect!

I had a previous thread with my Windows 8.1 OS (8.1 - Wireless Adapter shuts off). I thought it was solved, but after a couple of days, it happened again.
I reformated my System Partition, installed a clean Windows 8 Pro version (Because i didn't had the problem before i upgraded to Win 8.1) and now i have the same issues.
Installed the latest drivers from Intel (Didn't fix it)
Installed the drivers that came with my laptop for windows 8 (Didn't fix it)
Disabled the Power Management setting to turn of the adapter
Changed my DNS (Because i was also getting the 'Default Getaway' problem (Didn't fix it)
Did the DISM thing, nothing
I'm starting to think that this is a problem on the Hardware Level? I could try to go back to Windows 7, but i'm afraid i'll have the same problem...

I've once again encountered this problem with my Canon PIXMA MP620 printer/scanner: when using it wirelessly, it can't print. According to 'Devices And Printers', it's offline and therefore most programs I use in Windows 8.1 claim it can't print.
However, using Canon's program 'MP Navigator', it can scan from the printer without any problems. I can scan from the computer to the printer and the other way around. Therefore I'm suspecting that the problems lies with Windows 8.1 and not the printer. The connection is obviously there but Windows doesn't seem to think so.
I can't find a solution in the printer's manual, Windows doesn't give me anything when I try to troubleshoot the printer in question, and Canon's own 'Network IJ Tool' can find the printer but says it's doesn't work without clarifying why.

It's a Sony Vaio touchscreen laptop i5 that came with Windows 8, upgraded to 8.1 about a year ago. Yesterday, the buttons in the available wireless connections stopped working. When you click on an available connection, they no longer provide the drop down that offers connect or disconnect.
Everything is up to date...connecting to LAN works fine.

Every time I sign into my windows 8 account at home it never automatically connects to it. I tried following the tutorial at [URL]......
However when I get up to the part where you are support to right click on the wifi connection to access view connection properties I am unable to. Right clicking on the wireless connection does absolutely nothing. I even tried clicking on it and holding and still nothing.
When I go to the network and sharing center and click on the wireless connection it pops up a dialogue called wi-fi status. However there is no button for wireless properties. I remember in windows 7 there use to be a tab where you change the key encryption type and there was a check box where you can save the password. Essentially I can't access the dialog box in page 10 of the above link.

I cannot connect to my wireless anymore (all other devices in my home do) since windows has automatically installed the drivers for my canon printer.
In PC setting i do not have the button wireless anymore (i am pretty sure that i had it last week). Wi-Fi (Qualcomm Atheros AR964x) is in my network connections, but cannot connect. Diagnoses says problem with wireess adapter or access point.
So what did i do until now : I have restarted the whole interne installation ( rounter, and all other devices) many times Atheros driver is up to date and device status is "working properly"
i dont know anymore what to do more (except switching to linux and not being able to use some commerical software i rely on for my work) :-(

I have problem wit limited wireless connectivity on my laptop (Samsung) but also on my iPhone 4 and my wife`s LG optimus 5 duo all at the same time. I changed yesterday my router speedport which performed wireless connectivity problems, with a same one- and the problem is actually the same. For every 30 minutes I have limited access on my laptop, iPhone 4 and LG 5. If i restart the router it is OK for a while, and then again the same story. Someone told me to switch off wireless option on both phones, which made connectivity normal on my Samsung laptop.
I repeated, I changed two routers and the problem persists.

After a while when i'm browsing the web etc, my wireless connection goes to Limited and there are no other wireless networks available (when there should be 10+ networks).
When i disconnect that limited connection, there are suddenly no networks found and my wireless adapter disables itself and i can't re-enable it anymore. The only thing to restart my computer.
This occures after a couple of minutes. I had this problem before, but then it fixed itself for a couple of weeks and now i have the same problem again.
I've tried reinstalling my drivers, but doesn't do the trick..
I have an Asus N76VM laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit with a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 adapter.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y500 laptop running Windows 8.1. i7, 8BG ram, 2GB Nvidia card--all that stuff. It ran perfectly for nearly a year. But now, the local area network is broken. I haven't done anything different or changed anything that would affect it, as far as I know. But now that it's summer, I have lots of free time but I can not lan any games with people, which sucks. So I googled and googled, tried the netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt (or whatever it is), tried ipconfig resets and stuff, and none of that works. The wireless lan adapter Media State is still "Media disconnected."
I took this screenshot AFTER I did OneKey Recovery (which is a factory reset). It set my computer back to the original settings: Windows 8, full of bloatware, etc. I did this reset last night, updated it, updated it to Windows 8.1, updated Windows 8.1, and finally, before I went to bed, tested the LAN. It worked, I was able to connect to my Dad's Minecraft world. So I set my laptop to start re-downloading my games (reset deleted all my data), and when I opened it up this morning to play Minecraft with my family, the LAN was not working again. I couldn't connect (or even find) the lan games.
