Network / Sharing :: Powershell Script Airplane Mode

Jun 11, 2013

I am writing a script to change my computer settings when I go to work and change them back when I get home.

I would like to know how to script turning on/off Airplane Mode. If that's not possible, how do I script turning on/off wireless and Bluetooth?

Code:

$Office = 'e40fb68e-3e3a-4942-aa68-0490b7e7a790'$Balanced = '381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e'$currHour = (get-date).hourif ($currHour -ge 7 -and $currHour -le 14) { powercfg -SetActive $Office #Disable-NetAdapter -Name "Wi-Fi" #Start-Service -displayname "Bluetooth service" } else { powercfg -SetActive $Balanced #Enable-NetAdapter -Name "Wi-Fi" #Stop-Service -displayname "Bluetooth service" }

Network / Sharing :: Missing Airplane Mode Switch

Dec 14, 2013

The problem I have, on my desktop PC, is that I'm missing the Airplane Mode switch from all the areas.

Couple of screenshots;

The reason I'd like to have this option, is that I use Reaper as a DAW, and its well known that disabling all your wireless is a good way to increase performance.

I've gone into Device Manager and simply disabled the wireless driver...but that's not very convenient.

My specs;
-running Windows 8.1
-Asus z87 Pro motherboard
-Intel Core i5-4670k

Network / Sharing :: Airplane Mode Permanently On - Unable To Directly Use WiFi

Jan 10, 2014

I am using a dell latitude e6430 laptop and just recently i encountered this problem- The airplane mode of my computer refuses to be turned off.

I tried going to the pc settings > networks but the selection is grayed out and stays at [on]. This results in my computer not being able to connect to the internet.

I have also tried doing a system restore to the date when it was working perfectly fine, but the airplane mode is still grayed out.

The only way i could access my internet on this computer is to tether my mobile phone and connect it to the wifi via USB tethering.

Is there any way to force off the airplane mode(In command prompt etc) or Remove the option?

Network / Sharing :: Why Computer Turn Off Wireless Connections And Defaults Into Airplane Mode

May 27, 2014

The computer turn off the wireless connections and defaults into airplane mode. I had this problem with Windows 8. The option to easily toggle airplane mode on and off become grayed out unchangeable. The only way I found to temporarily fix the problem was to rightclick the airplane icon and then troubleshoot the wireless connections which would then turn wireless back on. I had the option to upgrade to 8.1 and I did and it fixed the problem for a while. It did happen again which is why I'm back on the web searching for possible more permanent solution for this. Luckily it only happened once a week ago and hasn't happened again. I was wondering if this bug was known about and if you possibly know of a way to fix.

Unable To Turn On Wireless Connection In Airplane Mode

Sep 19, 2014

I have a Dell 15R Inspiron laptop running Windows 8; It has a Dell 1705 Wireless card. Suddenly after trying to check for Windows Updates my computer said it is unable to check due to an error. Tried to correct error without success. Then the computer began to go to airplane mode; I kept turning on wireless connection. Finally it went into airplane mode and prevented me from turning the wireless connection back on.

I checked and found a message the ethernet cables were unplugged. I checked my network connection and it is fine. My tablet and printer are connected wirelessly and work ok. I reset the computer to factory default settings. I tried many Microsoft's solutions from their forum and nothing works. The computer is 1 year old and I spend a lot of time fixing problems that arise through no fault of mine. I am totally dissatisfied with Windows 8 and 8.1.

Network / Sharing :: Wireless And Wired Network Limited After Sleep Mode?

Apr 13, 2014

Since a few weeks, I have a problem with my laptop running Windows 8.1 (Toshiba Satellite P50-A-12PBE). Sometimes, after bringing Windows back from sleep mode, I seem to have no connection to the internet. Windows says the connection is 'limited', wether I'm connected with a wire or wireless. Resetting the router doesn't solve anything, but rebooting my pc does. Since both the wired and wireless network are always simultaneously affected, I think this hasn't anything to do with drivers (I already have the latest versions by the way). I have made screenshots with ipconfig-results when I'm connected with a wire.

Apps / Software :: Powershell And Monitor As 125% Or 150%

Nov 7, 2013

Since the upgrade to Windows 8.1 I have a very strange issue with the Windows Powershell (and only withg the Powershell). I occurs both on my Surface Pro 2 as well as on my desktop computer.

General information: On my Surface Pro 2 the screensize option is set to 150% (standard on the Surface Pro 2). On my desktop computer I've set the screensize option to 125% (my eyes are very bad ).

The case: When I open Windows Powershell (normal and admin) it opens and looks normal for about a second or two. Then the screen shrinks to a very small and unreadable size. See the screendump ==>

The tryouts: First I ran the SFC/ Scannow and DISM commands. They came out clean. On my desktop I also did a complete full new installation (was needed anyway ). This didn't work though.

Setting the screensize option to 100%. That way the Powershell window doesn't shrink.

Conclusion: It looks like the Powershell cannot cope with the screensize option being anything else then 100%. The funny thing is though that under Windows 8.0 this problem does not occur.

My question: Is this a bug in Windows 8.1 that Microsoft needs to fix?

I recently got a new laptop with win 8 and whenever I share this internet connection I can never connect on my Xbox (the network to internet part fails). I double checked that all the appropriate services are running (DNS Client, SSDP Discovery, UPnP Device Host, Function Discoveryr Resource Publication, etc.) and made sure Network Discovery was allowed through Windows Firewall.

Network / Sharing :: Random Network Disconnect To Wireless Network Printer?

This morning I installed an optional update from Windows Update. It was Ralink Technology WLAN 802.11 wireless LAN card.

Since then, when I try to print to my wireless network printer, the network would disconnect then come back on after a while. The update shows up in Update History as successfully installed but not in the installed updates. System restore is of no support here. The network configuration page shows normal. Is there a way to reverse this update or should I uninstall the 802.11 LAN card and let windows re-install anew.

Screen Greyed In Normal Mode But Vibrant In Safe Mode

When i booted it in safe mode, the screen is showing the right vibrant colors. When i booted it back to normal mode, the screen is greyish but strangely the mouse is showing the correct white color.

I have googled across numerous website but none of them bring me closer to the issue. I have read the thread, Personalize Suddenly Greyed Out but this is not what i encountered. The options or buttons or selections did not grey out, it affects the screen only.

I cannot afford a system restore because i shared this laptop with my gf.

Network / Sharing :: How To Disable Password Access To File And Printer Sharing

Feb 6, 2013

I am in the midst of the final steps in setting my my new Win 8 system.

I have a Win XP and Win 8 computer on my home network. I believe that I have set up file and printer sharing correctly. I can access the files and printer on the XP system from the Win 8 system. However, when I attempt to access the Win 8 files from the Win XP system, I get a long delay (about a minute or two) and then it asks me for the User Name & Password. I enter them and then and it works fine.

If I try to print on the printer attached to the Win 8 system from the XP system, I get a printer error unless I have already signed in with the ID & PW when accessing files. It never asks me for an ID & PW before attempting to print.

On the Win 8 system, I have selected "Turn off password protected sharing" in the "Network and Sharing Center/Advanced Sharing Settings".

The Win XP system has previously been correctly sharing files and printers with another XP system for some time and I haven't changed any settings on the XP computer.

Both the XP and Win 8 systems are assigned the same Workgroup name.

Network / Sharing :: ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) For Xbox Live On Windows 8

Jan 3, 2014

Okay, so in Windows 7 I am able to connect my wireless to my phone, and run an ethernet cable over to my Xbox. If I use the ICS feature and configure it under services to allow ports 88 and 53 UDP, it works fine. This also allows my Xbox to seemingly add to this list of ports as it finds necessary.

The issue is however, with Windows 8, although I can connect to Xbox Live the same way, it does not seemingly allow the Xbox to add more ports that it deems necessary. This leads to that NAT error message that I am actually trying to do this as a way to bypass it.

In Windows 7 this only works if the connection is set to Home (not sure about Work), but not public. I'm curious if the reason this does not work in Windows 8 is that Windows 8 does not have a Home option, but rather only Private or Public settings. There is some small setting buried deep somewhere that I just need to change to treat it like Windows 7 allows Xbox to treat home networks and configure/add ports automatically.
