Network / Sharing :: Fails To Connect On Start Up Randomly?
Sep 15, 2014
This has been happening for the better part of 10 months now. Its happened on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 (8.1 to be specific).
I cold boot the PC and sometimes the network connection will not connect. There are two ways to solve this:
1) Reboot works everytime I believe
2) Or just open the PROWinx64 zip (Intel Network Connections Install Wizard)
This is the interesting bit - I don't reinstall the driver, I merely open the zip, it extracts and it loads the very first screen of the install wizard. That's all that is needed to connect the network.
This began happening after I resinstalled Windows 7 last year, and after a bit of searching for a solution I decided to just upgrade to Windows 8.1 However, as I've seen the problem still persists.
Is this indicative of a hardware failure or what might be the issue?
I have tried multiple drivers. The latest one listed on the ASUS page (P8Z68-V Pro mobo) is from Sept 2013, so I've also tried one from Intel's page

I have 3 laptops on my home group "MIGOL":
(A) a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga with Windows 8.1 Professional
(B) a Samsung with Windows 8.1 Home (upgraded from Windows 8)
(C) an Acer Aspire with Windows 7 Home
All windows are 64 bits versions and all use Local accounts with my username "mo" as an Administrator. I have defined shares on all machines with names like "drv-c" or "drv-d". I all the shares I have only the user "mo" and the group Administrators having access to the shares and I have removed the "everyone" user.
From laptop (C) I can access the shares is both laptops (A) and (B).
From laptop (A) I can access the shares in laptop (B) and from (B) I can access the shares in (A)
But... from laptop (A) or laptop (B) I cannot access any share in laptop (C). I get a pop-up asking for credentials where I put my username and my password but I get a "refusal" mentioning "the username of password are incorrect". I have tried to add the "everyone" user to get access to the shares in the Win7 machine but it does not work a bit.
Summarizing: From Windows 7 I can access shares in Windows 8.1 machines, but from Windows 8.1 I cannot access shares in a Windows 7 machine.

Recently my Samsung laptop has been getting kicked of my house's WiFi. The computer will power up normally and connect to the WiFi, but as soon as I try to use the WiFi to access the internet the connection fails.Typically this only occurs when other devices are connected to the same WiFi. As soon as the other decieves are taken of the WiFi the computer is able to access the internet again. I have tried updating all my drivers and still nothing.

I'm having a rather annoying issue on Windows 8 with my ASUS Laptop.
When moving from Wi-Fi to Ethernet (disable Wi-Fi, plug-in Ethernet cable then enable Ethernet port) my computer fails to recognize the Ethernet connection. I have to restart my computer to solve the problem.
Is this intentional or is something going wrong?

Network on my Lenovo Yoga running Windows 8.1 works fine over both wireless and Ethernet (USB dongle).
I have an iMac initiating a Remote Desktop connection to the Yoga via a direct Ethernet cable between the devices. Everything works fine on the Windows 8.1 device except the WiFi can no longer connect to any access points and thus the Yoga has no Internet/network access--it just fails immediately when I select an access point for connection.
I do see an Event ID 8000 from NETwNe64 around the time of this failure; not sure if it's the same cause.
If I log back into the Yoga (and thus break the Remote Desktop Ethernet connection and take over that session), wireless works perfectly again. Thus it is clear that WiFi is only down when the device is accessed via RDP over Ethernet.

Sometimes when I am working on my laptop doing whatever it just disconnects me out of the blue. It shows this stupid icon and says that there are no connections possible:
At first, I did not know what to do so I just began doing some random things on the network center. Then I figured out how to solve it:
First open network center
Then, Open adapter settings
Disable your Wifi network card
Next, Enable it again
And then your internet connection is back again
Now this works fine on short term, it takes like less then one minute.

I am running Windows 8 on a Dell Inspiron 3520. At random moments, the internet disconnects. Sites do not load, however it says I am still connected to the network. I have to manually reconnect to my network for the internet to work again. This is quite frustrating. The other laptops I have (and have used for many years) do not have this problem, so I believe it to be a problem with either the OS or the hardware.

I have a lenovo G505 laptop - it will no longer connect to my BT home hub despite it showing as being available. I suspect it might be to do with the fact that it is has a passkey - I entered it yesterday when prompted and it connected fine, but now I'm not being given the option of entering the key.
I've also tried connected using the BT wifi (as opposed to homehub) but once again it will not connect me. I've been through all the troubleshooting options, and searched under every term I can think of, but nothing is working.

So I've had a new HP Pavilion G6 for several weeks. In the last three days, every few hours it will randomly disconnect, and won't re-connect unless I restart my computer. The other laptop in the house is not having any problems, so I don't think it's the router. I tried re-installing the WiFi driver but it's still doing it.
In my Events Log I notice that before each disconnect there's an unidentified event with the Intel Wireless as a source: "The description for Event ID 5007 from source NETwNe64 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer."
I checked previous threads on random disconnects but they all seem to deal with a connection that disconnects every few minutes, not hours.

I'm using Windows 8.1 Professional. After the update to 8.1, I can't connect to my network printer which is connected to a Windows XP Home machine. Everything was working before the upgrade. I can currently see, connect, access and modify files on all the computers. I keep getting a message that I don't have permission to access the printer and I can't access the permissions on the Windows XP computer. I'm also using a Windows 7 computer which has no problem accessing the printer.

My new laptop will randomly disconnect from the internet but still remain connected to my wireless network. I've unchecked the box allowing the wireless card to be powered down, I've done ipconfig release and renew, and I've checked my drivers but none of it has fixed the issue.

My main PC, 2 laptops, an iPhone and an iPad all connect to my home wifi network. All worked perfectly until 3 days ago.
The 2 laptops and my PC all run Windows 8.1 (all updated). 3 days ago my Toshiba Qosmio stopped being able to connect to my home network. All other devices still connect perfectly.
The Qosmio doesn't detect my wifi network. I immediately went to the network adapter's (Qualcomm Atheros) website and downloaded the latest driver. Installed it and for a brief (very brief) time it could once again detect and connect to the network. Last 3 days unable to either detect or connect.
It detects other networks fine, and has no problems connecting to any other network - except mine (doesn't even detect mine anymore). It connects to the iPhone (when used as a hotspot) without any issues.
I've uninstalled and re-installed the new driver, re-booted the wireless router (several times), re-set the router to factory settings, used Windows trouble shooter, checked & deleted the netsh profiles. Re-booted the laptop a dozen + times, disabled (& uninstalled software) for the laptop's Bluetooth.
It simply stopped working.
I've tried everything I can find on the web - without any success at all. I've had the laptop sitting only a few cm from the router.

My wife's ASUS Win 8 laptop on a local network some how got connected to "Hidden Network" instead of the Normal ZFHL2. She was unable to shutdown last night. Finally she pulled the battery to power down. This morning after re-installing the battery, boot was normal and the connection was ZFHL2. We removed the "Connect Automatically" check from hidden network but it comes right back. We would like to remove hidden network to prevent this from re-occurring, we have not found a way to do that.

I recently installed a fresh version of Windows 8. Everything went smooth until I tried connecting to a wireless network. It finds the wireless network, after typing in the password (btw its a WPA2-Personal), I instantly get Can't connect to this network.I tried it on another wifi network and it gives me the same problem.Another thing I noticed is that when I right click on the Wifi network I get no options. And when I do it on a wired network I only get the turn on/off sharing option.By the way when connected directly to the router connection is perfect.

I installed Windows 8 and now all FTP programs will not connect to any FTP accounts. I've connected to the ftp on other computers and its worked fine, so the password and all are correct. I've tried:
-Connecting with FileZilla, FireFTP, and Windows IE
-Turning off firewall entirely.
-Adding or removing special exception to the windows 8 firewall setup.

Have been trying to connect to a Sony FSV-E1 NAS box from Windows 8 but for some reason I cannot get it to except my username and password. The system works when using Windows XP using the same username and password so I know the system is working.
I can get access to the control panel on the Sony and enter the Administrator username and password which then allows me to use the control panel and change or setup new users and folders.
I think it may be something to do with the way Windows 8 transmits the username and password.

I just purchased a new laptop with windows 8.1. I previously had two laptops and a desktop all running windows 7 and all connected to my network wirelessly. I had a homegroup set up on the desktop that works fine for all windows 7 machines, but I cannot get the new 8.1 machine to connect to it. The new machine sees that the homegroup is there but after I put in the password it says it no longer can find the homegroup.
I tried to run the homegroup troubleshooter and got a vague response about network problems, but no problems were detected by the network troubleshooter. I've also tried creating a local user instead of logging in with a Microsoft account but got the same message when I tried to connect.

I have a brand new Lenovo Ideapad Z585. It has a Broadcom Wireless adapter that will not connect to my home wireless network. I have tried everything I can think of to get it to connect to my Netgear router.
When I run Windows diagnostic tools it tells me that there is a problem with the wireless access point, there isn't I am using another laptop with no issues.
I have done a rescue install and gone through the same problems. This time the diagnostic report tells me I have not chosen a network to connect to despite entering the usual SSID, security type and password details in the network centre.
Networks are detected OK, I click on my network, am asked for the password and weither I wanted to share on the network, click ok and after a couple of seconds I am advised 'could not connect to network'
I have spent about 6 hours today trying to resolve this. The ethernet works fine.
I am completely ignorant of WIndows 8, this being my first computer to use it.

I recently purchased a new desktop computer which had windows 8 pre-installed. I was somewhat enjoying it (hating everything about the changes from windows 7) and then my wifi would disconnect every few minutes. I used windows update and installed all new updates (which takes a long time with random wifi disconnects) and it still had no way out. I went to the website of the wifi driver and downloaded + installed the most recent drivers. The disconnects became slightly less frequent.
My computer is an Acer AME600-EB388.
I have checked the power settings and made sure they weren't set to shut off.
