How To Restore A Minimized App Window
Oct 27, 2013I'm using StrokeIt software (which executes actions on mouse gestures), and I'm so used to it that when a Windows 8 app is open (let's say the 'Reader') I often minimize it with a mouse stroke hoping to return to the desktop but the app is simply minimized and an empty blue screen replaces it. How can the app be restored? Win+Up button don't work in this case. Can I set it somewhere that focus is switched to the desktop screen automatically after a Windows 8 app is minimized to which I can later return with let's say an Alt-Tab command ?

Jul 3, 2013I purchased an HP desktop with windows 8 towards the end of 2012, and have been running into a recurring problem that has worsened recently. Originally, something would occasionally occur after my computer went to sleep. When I woke it up, there would be no desktop icons and although I could launch programs, their windows would remain in a permanent minimized state. A simple restart would fix it temporarily, but as of late a new issue has complicated things. Now, certain programs (web browsers and the occasional game) will be permanently minimized on the regular desktop screen, and will only be viewable on the 2nd screen. As you can Imagine, this makes performing tasks that require multiple programs very difficult, as there is no surefire way to switch from the regular desktop screen to the second one. I attempted to fix the issue by changing the sleep settings and performing a repair install, but both of these had no effect.

Jul 9, 2014Since about 4 days, I'm having various problems primarily on the internet.
1) All sorts of downloads from the internet first load normally, then stop at 99% and usually dont finish, some end 5 minutes later, resulting in a damaged file. Example: Downloading a song this way makes it randomly jump parts of the song in short intervals (a song of 3:50 minutes would then be in my itunes with a duration of 3:46 due to the random jumps); downloading CCleaner and similar programs did not work at all (not even a damage file).
2) Pictures on the internet become "puzzled" and colors change randomly. Example:
3) Only tested this on youtube - videos load 10x slower than before the issue + some flash plugin keeps crashing (also never happened before - even with 50+ tabs).
4) Frequently sites do not load (they stay white).
5) A "firefox update recommendation" and a "flash player update site" with untrustworthy URLs often randomly open, sometimes even 5 times in 5 seconds + I suddenly get overloaded with random advertisement from the left, bottom and right screen sides.
THE PROBLEM WAS A PLUGIN CALLED "NET-CRAWLER" >uninstalled it, and everything worked out.
Setup Installation :: Windows 8.1 Partially Installed On SSD?
Feb 25, 2014I was trying to install windows 8.1 on my new SSD for my laptop. However during the installation process, I accidentally unplugged the USB drive that had the Windows 8.1 install on it and the process was interrupted.
Now whenever I plug in that SSD into my laptop it gets stuck in this "boot loop" kind of deal where I hear it start up and turn off all in a matter of 10 seconds or so and all I get is a black screen.
Without the second hard drive my laptop runs almost flawlessly. Only issue is upon booting up it asks which operating system to use and gives me two options: Boot from Windows 8.1 or Boot from Windows 8.1 volume 4.
Dual Screen - Mouse Not Moving Over?

Mar 5, 2013I just learned! You can hold down the <Windows> key and press <page up> or <page down> to switch the Start screen to another monitor in a multimonitor setup.
So there are 3 ways to move the Start screen:
1) click in the bottom left corner of the desired monitor to have the start screen there
2) use <Windows> + <Page Up> or <Windows> + <Page Down> to cycle the start screen through the monitors
3) grab the top edge of any Windows Store/Metro app and move the app to another monitor. That will automatically move the Start screen to that monitor as the Windows Store app must be on the same monitor as the Start screen.

Sep 22, 2013Lets say I open up lets say 'Window A' whether it be Firefox or a my documents window.
I then open up another 'Window B ' on top of Window A. When I close 'Window B', 'Window A' has lost its focus and I need to click back on it somewhere to regain it.

Now I want this app to run in a window instead of fullscreen. An app like this.. i don't get it.. why leave it full screen when you have to multitask? I'd like to run this in a custom sized window that I can tell to always stay on top of other apps.

Cannot Click Move Or Copy Button - Window Opens Below Screen
Oct 13, 2013This started happening just recently & I think it was after a Windows update.
Every time I want to copy or move a file using the select location link, the copy/move window that opens is always below the task bar (or below the screen if I have task bar set to auto hide). In either case I cannot click the move or copy button before first moving the window up. It may seem like a small thing but I do this operation a lot & it is very annoying having to do that extra step.
Minimized Windows Disappearing?

Until few days ago, everything was working fine. Whenever I open the File Explorer/Windows Explorer, it always opens minimized. Earlier I just needed to maximize it and close it so that when the next time I open it, it opens maximized. But when I do that now, it still opens minimized.
Not just that. I like to have my files and folders view to be as "large icons". But, its all in "details" view now. Earlier if something like this happened, I would change it once to "large icons" and it remained intact upon my viewing next time. However, it doesn't happen now. In spite of changing the view settings to "large icons", they still open "details" view.

Jan 28, 2013I've added task manager to my scheduled tasks at logon. Everywhere I google, they say to put the /min or -minimized arguments in it to launch it minimized, except neither option works for me. Task Manager launches, but just sits there on my desktop.

Aug 11, 2014I am trying to move a rar folder to MyGames folder and it's having none of it.. It just seems to be my MyGames folder and no other folders on my PC.
I am currently using Windows 8.1 is there a problem or a glitch with this? I currently have McAfee installed could this be apart of moving folders, copying folders to another folder?
I have checked all my permissions etc in the MyGames folder and they seem to be fine. I am trying to move folder to my Farming Simulator 2013 folder and it's not doing anything not even popping up with any kind of warning why my folder isn't copying, pasting correctly.

on the start screen - the tiles are immediately moved to the left , and you do not have time to click on the desktop icon before its moved off the screen

click on the drop down for 4weeks etc - it immediately returns to 4 weeks - so you cannot use the dropdown to select other options

Moving Tiles In Windows 8 / 8.1 Up And Down?
Jan 26, 2014Basically you can move windows 8 tiles right and left but if you have multiple rows you cannot directly swap tiles up and down.
For example imagine I have two rows of tiles each with two tiles so a1, a2 and b1 and b2. I can swap a1 with a2 and b1 with b2 without any issues. However moving b1 with a1 forces a1 to move to the right meaning a2 is now where b1 would be.
I'd love to be able to just swap them so swapping a1 and b1 would swap the two around and leave the others alone. Is there a way around this?

Nov 6, 2013If I use the search function, not in a browser, but in the OS itself, it will bring up a Bing page of results. This page fills the entire screen and has no apparent way to close it. This also happens when I open a PDF using the native Windows 8 reader - the pdf opens to a full page with no apparent way to minimize or close it.
That's just the beginning of the problem. I have been just ignoring what is on that full screen by opening the desktop and just going about my work (hate the tiles, but that's a different story). However, from time-to-time, when I'm moving the mouse cursor and doing nothing but moving the mouse cursor, that full screen Bing page or PDF will just pop to the front unbidden. I can obviously reopen the desktop again, but this is a hassle, as this page-behind just keeps popping up and interupting my work. Worse, once it happens, it seems to happen again and again as I'm making the first mouse movement after moving back to the desktop. I literally have to open the desktop again and again 5 or 6 times before that document behind stops popping up. When I TRY to reproduce this, I can't. I can't seem to make the document behind pop up just by moving the mouse - but when I don't want it to happen, it does.
Windows 8.1 Keeps Moving Desktop Icons By Itself?
Feb 11, 2014Last september i formatted my hdd and installed windows 8 ultimate, then updated to 8.1 ultimate, i don't exactly remember when but after some time it was installed desktop icons began to move by themselves. Last month i got an SSD and i decided to just reinstall windows 8.1 PRO from scratch. i did. After 1 or 2 days icons started moving by themselves again. i'm pretty sure there is a recurring way they do it, there must be an even that because of a bug triggers the movements, i haven't been able to determine it tough.
There isn't much more to say other than:
-"AutoArrange Icons" is disabled.
-I tried to download some .ini fixes for similar problem but they fails.
-I tried programs to manually restore icons position manually with a previous save. useless.
-i have no viruses and no strange programs installed.
-At the time i started having the problem i only had: StartIsBack 1.5.2, chrome and Visual Studio.
