View 1 RepliesI'm running windows 8 home addition which was pre-installed when I bought the computer. I have set the unit to sleep after 1 hour but it is inconsistent. Sometimes it goes to sleep, other times it doesn't. I don't know how to resolve this issue. Also, what is the general feeling about having the computer go to sleep and any pros or cons.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 8 laptop and have been transferring files from my laptop to my Google drive. I have done this before without any problems, however when I try and click this minimised folder it won't expand or become more viewable (though I can hover over it with my mouse).
I am using dual screens (one TV and my laptop, expanding view onto both of these) so have tried switching back to just using my laptop to expand the folder but no joy. I have right clicked on the folder when I hover over it (see attachments, 2nd one are the options I see when I right click on the hovering folder) but any of these options just revert me back to the desktop and don't open the folder.
Control panel stays minimized windows 8.1. How can I maximize it so I can view it? Please do not say click on it in its minimized state coz that isn't working.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to move a window slightly off screen ? What i mean is...... If I move firefox,or any other window right or left or down it will go off screen no problem.
But if i move it up, to go off screen, it wont go off screen it just then goes full screen when it touches the top.
I am using windows 8 .
When I am uploading a photo, a window appears, 'Choose File to Upload'.
This window appears rather small. I would like it to Re-appear permanently in a larger size.
I try dragging the window from the corners and sides, but it always re-appears in the same small size.
How do I make the window appear in my chosen size permanently?
I recently got windows 8 and was wondering how I can snap a PDF that I'm looking at so that it occupies roughly 50% of the screen. This is so that I can compare and take notes from two pdf documents at a time (where the other pdf would be snapped on the other part of the screen like on windows 7). Thus far the closest I have gotten is this:
i.e. around 20% of the screen.I tried dragging the green part but this causes it to occupy the whole 90% of the screen.
In WIN 8.1 - unlike past versions that I'm familiar with - I am unable to move individual windows too far off screen without them being forced to minimize.
View 8 Replies View RelatedLets say I open up lets say 'Window A' whether it be Firefox or a my documents window.
I then open up another 'Window B ' on top of Window A. When I close 'Window B', 'Window A' has lost its focus and I need to click back on it somewhere to regain it.
See the diagram attached.
When pointer touches right side of screen date and time window appears on lift of screen. No way yet to stop it from appearing.

Unfortunatly it's a cruddy Metro UI version and not a real desktop application. I had to use a tile manager tool called OblyTile v0.9.8 to be able to make a desktop shortcut because I don't a truck with 8.1 That tool is here btw: [APP] OblyTile - Tile Creator for all programs. - xda-developers
Now I want this app to run in a window instead of fullscreen. An app like this.. i don't get it.. why leave it full screen when you have to multitask? I'd like to run this in a custom sized window that I can tell to always stay on top of other apps.
Is there a way to do this?
No matter how many times I go to 'View' settings, every time I choose a new window (i.e. opening a folder) I am always met with a small-format window rather than a full-screen, full-size one. I also am met with random lists instead of 'medium-sized icons', which I have opted for and chosen as default in 'view'. Have I missed a colossally simple tick in a box?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis started happening just recently & I think it was after a Windows update.
Every time I want to copy or move a file using the select location link, the copy/move window that opens is always below the task bar (or below the screen if I have task bar set to auto hide). In either case I cannot click the move or copy button before first moving the window up. It may seem like a small thing but I do this operation a lot & it is very annoying having to do that extra step.
I have Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise 64-bit.
I noticed that, in the "Change Action Center settings" window, the "Startup Apps" option is disabled. How come? How do I enable it?
I have just fixed the PC SETTINGS and STORE APP. As of today all of the apps have been repaired and installed via STORE but the problem still persist. Even though they have been repaired and installed. They can't open on maximized mode. I have already made this steps.
1) Chkdsk /f /r
2.) Reregister Store
3.) Scan for virus via ESET NOD32
4.) Almost all of the options on the thread Apps and Tiles Not Working or Responding: Fix in Windows 8
5.) sfc /scannow
6.) Fixed problems via Advanced System Care Ultimate 7
7.) Fixed problems via CCleaner.
the apps can't be opened.
Recently I have installed a clean copy of windows 8.1 pro version in my system. Now I want to get 8.1 with WMC and want to activate that....how to do so. I have tried activating windows with skype but result was failed
I follow this thread to activate [URL] ......
Is it possible to activate WMC version of Windows 8.1 Pro only if you have a legit Windows 8 Pro WMC key from Microsoft? If no, then where are you getting the keys from?

View 8 Replies View RelatedWith windows 7, we were able to use windows loader during the install the pre-activate the OS and if it was a OEM based pc it could be setup to use all the logos etc etc, I was wondering if there is something like that for windows 8? or at least activate it during the install without having to manually do it with microsoft toolkit?
View 9 Replies View RelatedOk, so here's what I keep running into.......I turn off UAC, and within a few hours I start getting a notification that I need to activate Windows 8. It's a legit install, and this only happens when I turn off the UAC.
If I turn UAC back on, then the activation is not a problem and all is good. However, if I try to re-activate with the UAC off, it runs into an error.
For the past week or so, I am suddenly (in the middle of working on something) getting a blue screen that says "Activate Windows. Go to PC Settings to activate Windows." And there's a PC settings button to click. The only way out of that screen is to click there. So I do, and it briefly looks like I'm going to go to some sort of settings screen, but then it disappears and it takes me to my start screen. When I go back to my desktop, whatever I was working on is right where I left it. Happens several times a day.
Why this is happening and why it never actually takes me to PC Settings and what I can do to stop this?
I'm running 8.1 - I "upgraded" (I use that term loosely!) when it first became available back in October.
I did a fresh reboot of my system and now I cannot reactivate it. My product ID is "not available" and I have an activation error description. I've tried all the slui commands and the sfc scans.
View 3 Replies View Relatedtwo weeks ago I had a hard drive failure on the stated laptop. I installed an OCZ ssd and reinstalled windows 7 from a retail family pack. I used the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) windows key from the sticker on the HP laptop. This activated no problem. I purchased this laptop new at SAMS club.
I also upgraded two desktop computers to windows 8 that also had this family pack copy of windows 7 installed on them (about a year ago). Both of these computers activated with no problem. I also installed a separate windows media player upgrade on each computer.
I then upgraded the laptop to windows 8. I also upgraded it to windows media player.
I noticed that the key provided during the upgrade was the same provided by Microsoft during the upgrade of one of the desktop computers.
The validation was successful at first.A day later I got a message stating that windows was not genuine. I then attempted to purchase another key and Microsoft stated that I could not purchase a key in my current country or region (I am in Wisconsin).
The website stated that I had to validate windows by purchasing a validation pack at a local retailer.
Why cant I validate windows? I have the COA still attached and nothing is different about the computer except the replaced hard drive.
I currently have an issue with activating Windows 8.1. I bought a Samsung series 7 chronos NP780 last November that came with Windows 8 installed already. I upgraded to 8.1 a few days ago and left it overnight to complete. Everything went fine up until I had to activate it. It says that the product key is incorrect and to enter a different one. I have looked at the box that the laptop came in, the manuals in it and on the laptop itself and there is no product key to be found. One or two of the manuals/booklets might be missing but I'm fairly sure that the product key is within the BIOS so should it not recognise the product key itself automatically and complete the upgrade without asking me for the key? I ran belarc to can by laptop and at the section where the product key should be it says "Key: None activated". I also ran keyfinder and the key it gave me back didnt work (although the end of it seems to match the end of the one that is listed as the "current product key".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried using this method:
-After installation disconect from internet
-change in registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE -> Change "MediaBootInstall" from "1" to "0"
-type "slmgr /rearm" into a command prompt, waited for confirmation, restart
-after restart, connect to internet, activate
This works fine until rebooting and then asks for activation again.
I have tried three more times without reinstalling and the MediaBootInstall stays at 0 so it doesn't need changing. I type the slmgr /rearm and on reboot when I go to activation menu it says activated, but when I reboot agian it says needs activation.
Not sure what's going on. I thought it was a windows update at first messing with it, but it still does it even without any updates being installed.
Can a genuine Windows8 key activate both 32 and 64 bit, depending on what you choose?
