Is it possible to move a window slightly off screen ? What i mean is...... If I move firefox,or any other window right or left or down it will go off screen no problem.
But if i move it up, to go off screen, it wont go off screen it just then goes full screen when it touches the top.
This started happening just recently & I think it was after a Windows update.
Every time I want to copy or move a file using the select location link, the copy/move window that opens is always below the task bar (or below the screen if I have task bar set to auto hide). In either case I cannot click the move or copy button before first moving the window up. It may seem like a small thing but I do this operation a lot & it is very annoying having to do that extra step.
I sometimes want to move my browser such that a playing video i(inside the browser) is sitting at the top-left of the screen, but I can only move the window until the title bar of the window is at the top of the screen. I can go to the bottom, but would prefer the top. Is it possible to move a window by holding the border, instead of resizing it?
At the bottom of my desktop/screen, I can see a thin line of the top of the taskbar. I have the taskbar on auto-hide, but tried it locked, unlocked, hidden, etc.
I tried different resolutions, restarts, images, and moving it. (It does it on all sides of the screen.)
I tried detect and identify in the resolution feature.
I did have this problem before and can't remember what I did to solve it. It turned out to be simple, but I just can't get it this time.
(The thin blue line at the bottom of the image, not the big white vertical bar.)
both Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit machines. When my intent is to go to a system restore point, from System Properties and then click on System Restore it takes slightly more than 2 minutes for the Restore dialog window to open. This is from the Desktop which I use almost exclusively.
This is an update from Windows 8, which behaved the same, and has had a repair install to see if that would work. It didn't. I have tried your Shadow copy entries mentioned earlier but with no improvement. I have resorted to a third party program "RestorePointCreator.exe" Which works quickly like Win 7 does.
My dual booted Win 7 Pro opens almost by the time my finger releases the mouse button
So I am using Windows 8 not pro, and I have moved the task bar to the top off my screen and set to autohide, but now when ever anything opens windows places it at the top of the screen and underneath the taskbar, is there a way to make windows open down the screen slightly, as I fight with the task bar to move the window.
I recently got windows 8 and was wondering how I can snap a PDF that I'm looking at so that it occupies roughly 50% of the screen. This is so that I can compare and take notes from two pdf documents at a time (where the other pdf would be snapped on the other part of the screen like on windows 7). Thus far the closest I have gotten is this:
i.e. around 20% of the screen.I tried dragging the green part but this causes it to occupy the whole 90% of the screen.
In WIN 8.1 - unlike past versions that I'm familiar with - I am unable to move individual windows too far off screen without them being forced to minimize.
Lets say I open up lets say 'Window A' whether it be Firefox or a my documents window.
I then open up another 'Window B ' on top of Window A. When I close 'Window B', 'Window A' has lost its focus and I need to click back on it somewhere to regain it.
I have a Windows 8 tablet/ultrabook (Lenovo Yoga). I primarily use the desktop to operate and have many icons and shortcuts arranged to facilitate the use of my computer.
When I use my PC in tablet mode, sometimes I rotate the screen to read PDFs, certain webpages, etc. When I rotate the screen back to a horizontal mode, all my carefully placed icons and shortcuts are shuffled around the desktop. I realize that when I rotate the screen the icons move because they have to temporarily reorient themselves to portrait vs landscape, but shouldn't they return to their original position when I rotate the screen back to the horizontal mode?
Is there a way to lock icons in place with Windows 8?
I have been using Windows 8. Very often when I am on the internet or on the desktop screen and I move my finger on the mouse pad, the Start screen automatically comes on. This happens when I move my finger on the mouse pad and the screen automatically goes to the Start screen. Something that would prevent the computer screen moving to the Start screen even when I do not want that screen.
I'm playing with this free Siri like virtual assistant for Windows PC called SpeakToIt. Speaktoit - Your Personal Assistant
Unfortunatly it's a cruddy Metro UI version and not a real desktop application. I had to use a tile manager tool called OblyTile v0.9.8 to be able to make a desktop shortcut because I don't a truck with 8.1 That tool is here btw: [APP] OblyTile - Tile Creator for all programs. - xda-developers
Now I want this app to run in a window instead of fullscreen. An app like this.. i don't get it.. why leave it full screen when you have to multitask? I'd like to run this in a custom sized window that I can tell to always stay on top of other apps.
I just purchased a laptop with Windows 8 installed on it. I have one problem. I know if you hit one of the corners of the screen the right toolbar becomes activated and is displayed. My problem is that it tends to be displayed when I move the cursor in the middle of the screen. When it is displayed I have to deactivate it in order to continue what I was doing. I do not mind the toolbar if it is not so sensitive.
Is there an app or a way to move/create shortcut tiles on Start screen for Wireless section for Modern UI settings. I just bought TF810 (YUPI!!!) and would love to have quick access to those parts of the system (sort of as in WP 7.x/8).
Battery level shown on tile/start screen (it is only shown in detail on task bar) would also be useful. I keep searching for it but no luck so far ....
I can't move files from one destination to another.
For example:
I have a few files in a folder called New Folder in my documents, I try to drag them out my that folder and directly into my documents so I can remove the folder. But when I drag them into my document it transfers them all but then if I refresh the window it just reverts to its previous location? It does the same when I move from the desktop to any folder.
as I have put up with it for weeks now and I'm sick of it. My desktop is too cluttered because I am unable to move files. However If i place everything into a folder on my desktop and then drag the folder to my documents that works but then I can't move them out my folder into my documents, my pictures, my music etc.
I have Windows 8 Operating System 64 Bit. I've removed any recent programs I've installed before getting this error.
When I bring up the calculator can I set it to stay on top of all the other open windows even if the focus is not on it? So I can see my result. I have Win 8.1
I am currently running win 8 with a pool of drives configured in storage space about 10TB. I want to build a new computer with Win 8 and move the current drives to the new computer without losing the data is the possible?
I have a friend that has a new laptop and is used to win 7 but the computer has windows 8 on it. She wants the Mail app to show on the desktop. Is there a way to create an icon on the desktop that will point to the mail application?
When I go into Properties/Location of the Public Videos folder it says I can "change where the files are stored in this folder" however I cannot type a new location into the dialogue box. I am in signed in as administrator.
I need to transfer my torrents from a Windows XP computer to a Windows 8 computer. On the first computer the folder containing the Bit Torrent application data is located at C:Documents and SettingsOwnerApplication Data. Where on the Windows 8 computer do I put this folder? I think I'm supposed to put it in the same place but I can not find the right path. I installed Bit Torrent on the Windows 8 computer and it puts data in C:UsersMyNameAppDataRoamingBitTorrent. Should I place the contents of the first BitTorrent folder in this place?

On both my desktop and laptop which have Win 8.1 and are quite similar, I cannot move the items within Favorites. I can click on one and it opens but if I try to hold it down and move it up or down, I no longer can since Win 8.1 was installed. I tried reinstalling the favorites with import /export to no avail.
Is there a way to convert a Metro App, to its counterpart in a Desktop App?
For instance, I open the Metro version of Chrome or IE. I open a half dozen sites. Now I want to view them in a Window so I can drag/drop in to say Outlook for an email.
or...
I open Netflix in Metro, and want to make it a window so I can do some work while I watch.
Is there a method to convert between Metro and Desktop?

The tabs are faded out like their opened but clicking on them does nothing, whats wrong with my computer??
I get a pop up window that says A problem caused the program to stop working correctly windows will close the program and notify you if solution available.
I just bought a brand new never been used desktop pc pre installed with 64 bit Windows 8.1 and I'm straight up getting a mmloaddrive.exe error Window pop up at start up.
I have the display set to extend, have the monitors set to the correct order, and the mouse moves easily across the two monitors. But I can't drag a windows from monitor 1 to monitor 2. I did remember to reduce the size of the window, but while it moves over to the side of monitor 1, it does not appear on monitor 2.
I upgraded to Windows 8 from XP a week ago and have not found the differences too difficult.
However, I have fiddling about for hours trying to find a way to have more than one window to view.
What I am trying to do is view my electric/gas & at same time I have my excel spreadsheet open on top, so I can input figures. In XP I was able to to do this.
In Windows 8, I seem to be permanently in full screen view & keep losing previous windows and I do not have tabs in the task bar or anything else to say what is open. Have I missed some setting? Controlling the windows.
