VBScript - How To Type In Minimized Application
Jul 19, 2014
Basically, I want to have a VBScript (Or Similar) which types in a command prompt, but without interrupting what I am doing at the time. I have the code for it, just it interrupts me every time it types.

Under Windows 8, when I minimize a window it disappears completely? Have I somehow changed a setting for the actions of the minimize button? Task manager show the program running but nothing appears in the taskbar. All programs are doing this so it must be a Windows 8 setting?

I'm using StrokeIt software (which executes actions on mouse gestures), and I'm so used to it that when a Windows 8 app is open (let's say the 'Reader') I often minimize it with a mouse stroke hoping to return to the desktop but the app is simply minimized and an empty blue screen replaces it. How can the app be restored? Win+Up button don't work in this case. Can I set it somewhere that focus is switched to the desktop screen automatically after a Windows 8 app is minimized to which I can later return with let's say an Alt-Tab command ?

Is this possible? I have 3 open Chrome windows that are minimized in the taskbar. I would like them to remain in the order that I originally opened them, but sometimes Windows 8 decides to switch their order. It's extremely frustrating and totally breaks up the flow of my work. Can I rearrange them back?

In WIN 8.1 - unlike past versions that I'm familiar with - I am unable to move individual windows too far off screen without them being forced to minimize.

I use Windows 8.1.
Until few days ago, everything was working fine. Whenever I open the File Explorer/Windows Explorer, it always opens minimized. Earlier I just needed to maximize it and close it so that when the next time I open it, it opens maximized. But when I do that now, it still opens minimized.
Not just that. I like to have my files and folders view to be as "large icons". But, its all in "details" view now. Earlier if something like this happened, I would change it once to "large icons" and it remained intact upon my viewing next time. However, it doesn't happen now. In spite of changing the view settings to "large icons", they still open "details" view.

I purchased an HP desktop with windows 8 towards the end of 2012, and have been running into a recurring problem that has worsened recently. Originally, something would occasionally occur after my computer went to sleep. When I woke it up, there would be no desktop icons and although I could launch programs, their windows would remain in a permanent minimized state. A simple restart would fix it temporarily, but as of late a new issue has complicated things. Now, certain programs (web browsers and the occasional game) will be permanently minimized on the regular desktop screen, and will only be viewable on the 2nd screen. As you can Imagine, this makes performing tasks that require multiple programs very difficult, as there is no surefire way to switch from the regular desktop screen to the second one. I attempted to fix the issue by changing the sleep settings and performing a repair install, but both of these had no effect.

I've added task manager to my scheduled tasks at logon. Everywhere I google, they say to put the /min or -minimized arguments in it to launch it minimized, except neither option works for me. Task Manager launches, but just sits there on my desktop.
Is there a new argument for minimized in Windows 8?

So whenever i type something for more than 5-10 seconds my computer goes into standby mode.
This problem happened on windows 7 as well and I tried like every virus tool you can imagine to find out what could cause this. I did find malware and some other junk but that didn't fix the problem so i re-formated my computer with my newly acquired windows8 copy.
But to my luck, the problem persists.
Well then it must be a CPU or a PSU problem right? I cleaned the interior of my PC, checked if the fans are running.
Observed the temperatures with speedfan...everything normal. Then i had my computer sit in bios mode for an hour or so...it didn't shut down.
I'm starting to think that it's actually my keyboard or something going nuts? Is this possible?
The windows 8 event log says that kernel's "energy-management" has initiated the standby.
My system specs:
Intel Core 2 CPU6600 @2.40GHZ
4.00GB RAM
64bit Win8
Geforce 460

How to remove login password from windows 8 logon and login automatically without entering it
Netplwiz in Metro search will get you to the User Account screen that lets you uncheck a box that requires a password to be typed on boot. You need to type in your password in the two following boxes for this to work.

I have searched all the keywords I can think of & I can't seem to find this problem addressed anywhere. The type on my address toolbar in the taskbar is very faded. Almost like it's grayed out, but not quite. I had it do this when I first installed Win 8.1, messed with some settings, but none that seemed to make any sense & it went away. Now it's back & I haven't done any setting changes!

This is really random. The keys are messing up. They either won't work or type double. I can only presume it's a virus. I've tried to gain access to my password protected user account via my guest account but I can't type the password in because of the way it's messing up. I want to use windows defender to try to sort it out.

On my new Windows 8 machine, every time I put an audio CD into the disk drive, the Power DVD program starts. THis is MOST ANNOYING! I want audio CDs to launch Windows Media Player so that I can rip them to the hard drive. If I go to Control Panel -> Default Programs -> Associate a File Type with a Program, there is NO LISTING in there for .cda files, which is what compact disc audio files are.

Default programs> Set your default programs > (Program name goes here) > Choose defaults for this program.
Even though Firefox is already registered with file types such as: .html, .htm, .ftp, etc, it won't let me uncheck them as well as for other programs.
I don't want to change the Firefox associations, though.
I've also tried : Default programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program . To no avail either.
FileTypesMan didn't work much of either.
It appears third party software and the usual method, aka Default programs, can no longer change some file type associations so easily now.

How can I change file type associations in Windows 8?
For example .jpg files open in Photos app, fine, but when I right-click and choose "edit" Paint opens up. I want to change it from Paint to Photoshop and there seems to be no way to do that.
In Windows 7 I used Creative Elements Power Tools for this, but it is not compatible with Windows 8.

I occasionally receive email attachments with a .doc extension that Windows Live Mail considers to be dangerous and has, therefore, deactivated. I recognise I can free the attachment by dragging it to the desktop or going to Home>Junk>Safety Options...>Security in Windows Live Mail and unchecking the box adjacent to 'Do not allow attachments that could potentially be a virus to be saved or opened'. However, in whatever application I try to open the file, nothing meaningful appears - it comprises hieroglyphics.

I'm trying to set up VPN to connect immediately upon startup.
I decided to try setting up my VPN in Windows itself, instead of using Open VPN as before.
This is the Windows VPN functionality that's available from the Metro themed interface and . But it's so dumbed-down that I can't even see what type of VPN connection this actually is.
If this connection if PPTP or L2TP? Or something else?
Whichever it is, is that connection considered to have integrity or is it more or less cracked?

This is weird, occasionally as I open up firefox and go to enter text into any field I notice that I am unable to type. Instead what happens is if I hit a key such as F which is linked to a windows shortcut for files, the files search menu pops up even though i never pressed the windows key at any time. This problem isn't just limited to firefox, once it is started I have a very hard time getting it to being able to type normally. So if there is no shortcut linked to that key, there is no input otherwise i get the shortcuts (H - share, Q - search, etc). Restarting doesn't always work, sometimes all it takes is excessive clicking of a search bar, other times just closing an internet broswer. Pressing the windows key does nothing, and I haven't been able to find a concrete fix for the issue. Is there a way to fix and or avoid this completely?

No matter how many times I go to 'View' settings, every time I choose a new window (i.e. opening a folder) I am always met with a small-format window rather than a full-screen, full-size one. I also am met with random lists instead of 'medium-sized icons', which I have opted for and chosen as default in 'view'. Have I missed a colossally simple tick in a box?

I upgraded my laptop to Win 8.1 a few days ago and everything seemed to be working fine. I ran into an issue today using the desktop version of IE 11 where I can type text into the address bar but if I select a field on a web page, I am not able to type text into it. I normally use FireFox as my browser and it works fine (as does Chrome). If I bring up the Metro version of IE 11, I can enter text fine.
It's not a big deal since I rarely use IE but it bugs me now that I know about it. I just checked on a netbook I upgraded and don't see the issue there.
