View 1 RepliesWhatever website I open (Yahoo, Dogpile, Mail.com, and yes even Techguy.org), my Windows 8.1 is reporting dozens of malicious websites being accessed in the range of 74.120.16.xx,xx,xx,xx, etc. Tracing one of these addresses reports that it is a Honey Pot. How can I stop Techguy.org and others from sending me these malicious intrusions, or how can I stop Windows 8.1 from filling the screen with these malicious website reports. (And Techguy.org continues to send these malicious intrusions throughout my session, even as I write this complaint.) I have set security from Medium-high to Medium which seems to be the lowest setting. I am using the Chrome browser. I stopped using the built-in Explorer 11 because I can no longer get my on-line college course assignments or my Walgreens photos, but the malicious reports keep coming. I don't want to abandon Windows 8.1.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOver the last few days I built a new PC with ASUS A87 Pro MB, no PCIe cards, and Samsung ssd 840 Pro boot drive. Lots of changes on a daily basis. For a while, the FAST STARTUP hybrid boot was working. Then it stopped, and I'm trying to debug it.
When PAST STARTUP is enabled in power options, I get a repeatable Critical Error - Windows did not shut down properly, and the startup time is as long as it would be without FAST STARTUP enabled. There are no BSODS, and no apparent harm from the Critical Shutdown error.

Twice in last 2 weeks, some of my tiles (Games, Bing News, Store, People, Mail, etc.) have just stopped responding. When clicked, I get a blank screen, then the full Start Screen re-appears.Other tiles such as Chrome, Word and Outlook work OK.When this first happened, I did a system restore, and the problem went away, but this time the restore point seems to have gone too.The 'Change PC Settings' does not work either, as I decided to try a complete refresh, but can't access that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAbout two weeks ago I began to notice strange behavior on my PC which made me think it may be a virus. Some examples:
1. When I'm online a message window frequently appears stating "internet explorer has stopped working"
2. Some websites do not display adverts on the page. I've attached a screenshot from youtube to illustrate what I'm referring to.
3. Some webpages will not load. I keep seeing "webpage under maintenance at this time". This is typical for websites at certain times but to see it every time I try to access is suspicious.
4. I use Hotmail and typically the first time I start it up in the day I notice that the first email I open causes the entire page to go blank as if it erases everything on it, it then reopens with all of my emails listed and finally the email I began to read will reopen. This only happens after I boot my system and open the first email. This will not happen on any other computer.
5. I seem to be having issues installing certain programs. They won't install citing various reasons such as outdated files, incompatible etc. These were all working flawlessly prior to reformatting my system.
6. I'm unable to post messages even though I'm logged in. When I type a message I see the timer cycling but it never posts my messages, it's as if it's stuck in a loop or frozen.
Having felt that a system reformat was in order I did just that not more than a week ago. Everything was reinstalled and updated. Once all the Windows 8 files were installed I began to notice the exact same problems surfacing immediately. I'm currently using Win 8 with IE 10. 16 GB RAM, 64 bit OS. The computer itself is an HP and a year old.
I am running Win 8 Pro.
My set up has 2 x 650 GB WD Black hard drives and a Samsung 840 (non pro) for the boot drive.
I have run the latest Samsung Magician, however the BIG problem is that it has stopped the windows 8 Defrag program.
I reinstalled Win 8 and all was OK, (now for the bit about me being thick -- ) I thought I would try the old version of Samsung Magician, and Bu**er me if has not only done the same thing again, turned off defrag and optimize, I am just unable to open defrag in order to defrag my WD drives.
I do not really want to reinstall Windows 8 again unless I have to, so how to switch defrag bag on again.
Currently running Win 8.1.1 x64 Pro. Task Scheduler stopped recording History on 1/5/2014 - no task history is available after that date for any task.
Enable All Tasks History is active in Task Scheduler (i.e., Disable All Tasks History displays.)
I don't know what caused Task Scheduler to stop recording History. How can I get it to start recording History again?

Has the "Event 513 error" issue been solved in the latest version of Macrium Reflect (Free)? This version: 5.2.6433 (11 November 2013)
Event 513 errors in Windows 8.1
Possible Macrium Issue?
In any case, is it currently safe to use Macrium Reflect (latest free version), from the point of view of operating system integrity (with Windows 8.1)?I'm a little scared that this "Event 513 error" issue could corrupt Windows 8.1 in some way.
My windows 8 pro install messed up n i have almost 2.8tb of stuff on my drive on a 3tb hd. I have an identical hd as a backup which i have (an apparently successful) a backup of my system from a couple of weeks ago on. I had set the system to do scheduled backups of the system (set to backup a system image of efi partition and c. There were a few times where i was trying to get other things done and the systemwas running slow so i cancelled the backups when i noticed them running. The software stopped the backups (seemingly successfully).
As i say my system messed up - i came home to find out it was no longer downloading (as i had left it doing when i went to work) but was on a blue screen (bsod?) saying the system needs to be restarted. Since then it didnt work well at all and after dskchk reported that several sectors were damaged so it was moving data to spare sectors (or whatever it generally reports when this happens) there were a lot of files messed up or reported as deleted when doing a file recovery scan with recuvva.
So i decided to restore the backed up system image from the other hd. Incidentally i tried mounting the vhdx backup image from that hd via windows explorer which then reported "the disk needs formatting" and didnt get any success mounting via disk management either (it mounted in the app but didnt show up on windows explorer and if i tried to access info on it via disk management it reported the same"disk needs formatting prompt".
So when i booted my win 8 dvd it didnt work cos the dvd wasnt an efi booting version so i had to boot from a usb version with the efi bit included.
I formatted the system drive and chose to do an image restore. It started doing the restore (apparently) but every time i came back to it later i had the follwing error:
"Re-image your computer
The system image restore failed.
Error details: The requested system device cannot be identified due to multiple indistinguishable devices potentially matching the identification criteria Ox80073B92"
It took me so long to set up my system n i have a lot of my own data on there too. The system drive I formatted was created in diskpart and then re formatted with "format" command (as it created the disk in raw mode) so now it is ntfs mode (uncompressed).
Windows 8 Backup has been working fine for 12 months to an external Seagate USB hard drive.I'm now getting a "device not ready" message with error code 0x80070015 and the backup fails within 30 secs of starting. I've checked the drive for errors and there are no problems. I can read /write files to the external drive. There is ample spare space on the external drive to store the backup file. How to investigate and solve this problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with a message in Action Center in Windows 8.1. It is saying "Check Backup Disk Space" and I cannot hide the message. I have tried to start up my PC recently and I get the message that my boot system has failed due to the fact it's missing the file "BCD".
I have contacted the microsoft company to report this issue, no support without my product code, or a disc/USB with the windows 8 system on it.
I have none of these and yet my issue still remains. My PC has worked perfectly the day before I shut it down. I'm trying very hard to restore my system but all I can find of the ways to restore it is by clicking control panel, etc...
I cannot access my laptop's desktop all I get is this error message and options to enter the setup utilities, firmware and boot options.
In all I'm asking for is, is there a way to restore my system from any of these options or is this another toss away laptop because windows 8 has failed to find this missing file?
I cannot get a replacement because I do not have the key with me that was used to install the operating system. This is all very frustrating and not to mention my job relies on this computer so it's putting everything to risk with my situation right now.
I have just upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1.I now find I cant back up my pc.I have tried 3 separate external drives to download to but each time I get the message I/o device error 0x8007045D.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo, it all started after i had my nvidia drivers error "Nvidia windows kernel mode driver error". After this error windows started being really annoying and laggy. Usually it lags most when i turn on computer, it takes a lot of time to load files, and strange thing happens after i turn it on. Just a few seconds after windows loads pictograms on dekstop windows strangly loads them again... I checked my disk usage, it goes to 100% sometimes and when its at 100% windows getting laggy. Usually reinstalling windows works, but I cant reinstall it atm, I got a lot of important stuff in it (and I made one disk). I am using windows 8.

I upgraded to 8.1 and everything is fine, apart from these 2 issues: -
1. If I start a maintenance run manually via Control Panel, Windows will start defragging my SSD, which obviously shouldn't happen. You can see it happening here, even though the drive is correctly identified as an SSD: -
I believe this bug was an issue in Windows 8 as well.
2. The System Reserved partition shows up in Optimise Drives, as it did in Windows 8, but I am unable to optimise it. If I select it and click the Optimise button, the Optimise Drives window disappears, reappears, but nothing has happened. It still says "Never run" and "Needs optimisation" next to it. Also, that causes an error to show up in Event Viewer each time I try it, as you can see here: -
The error is the same each time: -
The volume System Reserved was not optimised because an error was encountered: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)
Also in that list of logged events you can see where events have been logged saying that my C drive has been defragmented and not just retrimmed.
I have tried running chkdsk on the drive. I've tried running System File Checker. I have tried this command: -
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
Everything checks out fine and there are no errors.
Is this something I should be concerned about? Issue 1 only occurs if you manually start a maintenance run from Control Panel and it appears to be a bug in Windows, but that's easily solved by just letting maintenance run automatically on a schedule. It's issue 2 that I'm more concerned about. My system is running great and I don't know if not optimising that small 350 MB System Reserved partition really matters.

View 7 Replies View RelatedIssues I've been having with my PC and mainly from trying to play ARMA 3 which has seemed to be the root of my Display Driver Errors and Crashing (Not sure why as this game was running perfectly for the first 3-4 months I bought the PC brand new and downloaded the game from STEAM...
Ok so here's some background on my PC and where I'm at:
Well I had ONE crash a month ago and haven't been able to get ARMA 3 running right since, it started while crashing when trying to connect to the a MP Server, it basically went all Display Driver Error crazy with lines and boxes jumping on the screen then went into complete crash mode, after trying all of the Display Driver Error methods of fixing (ReInstall Drivers/Beta, launch parameters, etc. none seemed to work) ran IOLO System Mechanic software scan and fixed the problem for a week or so then it was the same old problems once again...of course *sigh...
Then, I did a complete system Restart where I fully cleaned my files and PC, re installed Windows 8.1 and all that, now after I reinstall Steam/ARMA 3, all is running good on my PC, no Display Driver Errors or any BS, but then I start up ARMA 3, tweaked some of video settings and went to Exit the game and it all crashed and burned and went back to Display Driver problems again!!!??? Also wondering if my ACER model PC Monitor could have anything to do with the crashes? (its about 6-7 years old but still has a 75hz Refresh Rate dunno if that can cause Disp Driv Errors?)
I've done system REFRESH and RESTART and even tried the newest AMD Driver and Beta Drive for my Graphics cards....the main problem seems to be the Distorted Lines jumping on my screen and boxes when I right click start ICON go blank or have werid lines in them as well...I also have the PC settings pop up saying my Windows is not Activated/Registered? I can recall that it seems like this problem happens after I run the Windows Recommened & Important Updates (after a Fresh Re-Install of Windows) that the Disp Errors start happening...
How to properly install Windows 8.1 on an AMD Radeon PC and the proper drivers I need or the way I need to install them? I read somewhere that You need to have Windows Defender off when updating the display drivers?? I bought IOLO System Mechanic which seems like it does a lot but wasn't able to solve my issue last night, did a complete Restart this morning and my PC seems to be running fine but I haven't run ANY windows or driver updates yet or installed ANYTHING... My PC came with the Windows 8.1 install Disc and MSI Driver Disc.
Here are my PC specs:
AMD FX-Series FX-6300 (3.50GHz)
8GB DDR3 500GB HDD
Windows 8.1 64Bit
AMD Radeon R7 250 2GB
This states that another program is in progress or installing, or the system is waiting to restart.
The problem is I have all free programs; MBAM, SpywareBlaster, and Defender and only Defender has real protection.
I have checked task manager for other programs that may be running.
Also, my wife's laptop is doing the same thing. Hers has been refreshed about 2 months agao and mine was reinstalled about 2 weeks ago. This has just begun.
Either Defender in both machines is faulty, MS is having an issue, there is an issue on my end with both pcs or??
I find it odd that both machines are doing the same thing.
I'm having a problem trying to restore Win 8.1 after a crash. All I get is a blue screen with an error code.
I finally deduced that I was having a hardware problem with my beloved SSD (weird glitches and erratic behavior, occasional recognition errors in BIOS, and finally I/O errors when trying to restore from backup), so I pulled it out, and temporarily replaced it with a spare HDD of slightly larger size. The backup/restore program I use is Paragon, and it has worked flawlessly for me for some time, including when I migrated Win 8.0 to that SSD over a year ago. So I pulled up the last full-disk backup (from 4 weeks ago) and did a Restore to the replacement HDD, but the resulting installation will not boot. I've tried it several times, including using a different archive, and each time I get a blue screen saying "Your PC needs to be repaired", with an error code 0xc0000034.
What is this error code, and how do I go about fixing the problem? Is there some kind of issue with restoring an SSD backup to an HDD? (I know there is something about the partition alignment which may be different, for instance.) This program worked just fine in the opposite direction, meaning restoring a backup of an HDD to the SSD.
I might have been able to use the recovery media to fix the problem, if I had the current media... unfortunately, the disk I created was from prior to the 8.1 upgrade, and it won't work anymore. My mistake. But short of a clean install back to 8.0, and then another upgrade to 8.1.
What does this error code mean and how do I fix it?

is this something I can repair from my original 8.1 Pro ISO, either as ISO or extracted? The setup event logs mentions 3 errors, so presumably this is the issue.
Since a week is it impossible to make a Win7 Backup Image (Control Panel).
This is the feature that got removed in 8.1 but now (on 8) I'm still using it in case I need to restore the OS.
The message shows this:
"Not enough disk space" but I have 360GB free on one disk and 150GB on another. The image is calculated at 67GB and it worked each time until now.
All OS updates installed.

Today, I started up my PC and after browsing on it for an hour I noticed a LiveKernelEvent hardware error in the Performance and Reliability graph. Looking at the time of the error, it appears that it occurred seconds after booting up my PC. The weird thing is that the PC didn't act strange or freeze up. Also, googling this error shows that it's mainly associated with BSOD's while my PC didn't give any.
I couldn't find any errors about it in the logs but there is only an information log about it (Dutch):
Foutbucket , type 0
Naam van gebeurtenis: LiveKernelEvent (name of event)
Antwoord: Niet beschikbaar
Id van CAB-bestand: 0
[Code] ....
Note that at Parameter 1 a code named "ab" is given which I couldn't find at all on the internet (usually P1 codes are numbers). Also, I could only find 2 files that were given by the error log (see attachment). There are no minidumps in C:/windows while it is enabled in the options to register any.
What the cause of this error by looking the files. I just recently formatted my PC and installed all latest updates.
