View 2 RepliesI recently bought a usb 3.0 pendrive expecting it to be faster, but it gives me similar data transfer speeds(5-6mbps) while using it on usb 3.0 (superspeed ports)or usb 2.0 ports..... I have installed renesas electronics usb 3.0 driver....and using win8 as operating system..
Do I expect similar speeds from usb 2.0 as well as usb 3.0 ports or can it be enhanced in any way??
Also any link for compatible 3.0 driver or bios upgrade.
I am curious about windows 8 transfer speeds. I'm currently running a Dell XPS 1647 (mid 2010 model) with a USB 3 card from Startech installed in the expressport. It works great, but windows pretty consistently does this thing where if I'm transferring files, it will start fast and then slow down by at least 50%. I have attached a photo of this situation. In this case, I was transferring roughly 500gb of files from a LaCie drive (7200RPM) using eSata to a Western Digital drive 2.5in external drive using USB3. to about 70% of the transfer I was getting 80mb/s transfer speeds, then it drops to roughly 26mb/s for the remainder. This hasn't just happened on my laptop, on my new desktop running Windows 8 Pro, the same thing can occur.
Is there a reason for this? Is it a windows thing, or a hardware thing? I find it does it on USB keys as well - starts quick, then quickly drops to about 20% of the speed.
I bought a program that will transfer data from my old computer (Vista) to my new computer (Windows 8) I plugged them both in. I had the screen on the Vista computer and it seemed to be working in transferring my stuff. I wanted until the lights on the new computer stopped blinking. Then I disconnected the Vista computer and hooked up all my wires from the Vista onto the Windows 8 computer. I can't find any of the data I supposedly transferred. Where would it be?
So now I think I better do the transfer thing again. So I take the old computer and plug it in (without monitor as I only have 1) No power. It's plugged in but the old computer won't go on. Now, I'm panicking... all my data, documents, spread sheets, genealogy are all in the old computer.
Now I do have backups... portable disks.... I see the info (or some of it) on the backup disks but how do I transfer it onto the Windows 8 computer? Theses were backedup from the old Vista computer.
On my new Asus PC I am trying to transfer Docs, Contacts, Pictures, & Music from a flash drive to the Library in File Explorer. I 'Copy' e.g. Documents from the flash drive, & when I right click in the Library on Documents, the box that opens does not show a 'Paste'. I tried to drag the items across but that won't work either. I do not have the same problem on my other notebook.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'll try and keep this as short and concise: I've got Windows 8 on a new Toshiba Satellite S855. I didn't create a guest acct. after I got it back in March - as I remember, it seems like I had some issues creating it because of the stupid Msoft forcing me to join/create and acct. for their new setup or something. Anyways, so I just skipped it and been using the desktop on my admin acct. to do all my net browsing, email, etc. I put my wimpy little music collection and some movies on it from my last lapT, and then last week I bought and downloaded Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Gamestop/Bethesda/Steam and installed it.
I've been playing catch up reading up on all the different things to do to make a more secure computer other than just letting MS essentials or AVG (on my last lapT) alone to do the work. I've got CCleaner and Malwarebytes on all the computers in the house and running MS essentials on my 8 & my old vista as well as my roomies running 7, but I'm not sure what all else I should install. Mainly though, I just want to know how to transfer things (For Dummies as I'm totally not very tech savvy) from an Admin acct. over to the Guest acct. on the same computer. I was thinking I'm sure there's some way to log into the guest, and then run admin in it and then transfer it over, but I haven't figured out how it's done yet.
My laptop is being replaced as it has a faulty motherboard (but still works). The new laptop will be identical.
Is there any way I can clone my hdd so that when the replacement arrives I can copy all the data onto that hdd without having to reinstall all my programs etc.
I know there are various cloning softwares available, but do they work? Are they any good? and most importantly are they idiot proof??
Any best way to achieve this data transfer to new machine.
I want to move all my data from my MacBook to a laptop with Windows 8. I have everything backed up on an external HD; when I plug the HD into the laptop, it's not recognized. I've tried transferring via WiFi, but the MacBook is not allowing that to happen. Is there anything I can do with my backup HD so that it is recognized by my new Windows 8 laptop?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering is there any way to increase the data transfer rate on SATA drives. My MB has SATA 3 and I have a Samsung HD 154UI drive on SATA /300 where I have Windows 8 x64 installed. The performance under Windows is 5.9. This is the lowest on the list. CPU 7.4, Memory 7.4, Graphics 7.9, Gaming graphics 7.9, Hard disk 5.9...Is there a way to get it higher without replacing the drive. The drive is new (only 3 months old) I have two of these drives and two Seagate drives that are 2 tera which are 1 year old.

I thought of retrieving the old "file history" on to the new rig but I'm afraid it would copy files that would make it unstable to to the hardware differences.
how do i speed up my advent windows 8 and get rid of bugs which i think is slowing down my pc i dont want to buy any device to put into my pc
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I launch file explorer in Windows 8.1 A Green Bar appears in the address bar and moves from left to right. Depending upon which folder I am in and whether or not I am accessing another disk drive this green bar moves fast or slow. When I am accessing a network drive it moves VERY slow and I have to wait 30 seconds to see the contents of the drive. How do I turn this feature off? Are there other ways of speeding up windows explorer loading?
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhy it is that I have trouble browsing in high speed despite the fact that the wireless adapter receives data at 1 Mbps minimum? I haven't been able to watch videos on Youtube, read the news etc because the browser takes ages to load the full page. I checked which applications are connected and they haven't exchanged much data as you can see below:
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I ran speed test with several different website and they all said my download speed is between 5 Mbps and 8 Mbps :
However when i actually download something my download speed stay at 1 Mbps or when i watch videos ( youtube) I don't have this problem with my phone !
I haven't noticed this as an issue until some recent Windows 8 auto updates (last 2 months, is generous estimate). "Save as..." take about 20-30 seconds, for 2 3rd-party medium weight word processors, to display the folder window where your want to save. It looks like it takes the computer a while to "round up" all the directory info to display it in the "save as..." window.
I did read here & elsewhere on changing the general option in the properties of a folder. I don't think that worked. I did also read (here?) about disconnecting the networked folders. I did do that, rebooted. There was no speedup. But then I remapped them all, and now MS-branded apps like wordpad & word/excel, do show the "save as..." window within a second or 2, as before. (Note: I do clean up the reg daily).
I installed Windows 8 Pro 64bit yesterday and I noticed that the CPU speed is always unstable/throttling. 800MHz jumping to 2.1GHz and 3.6GHz Max speed constantly, while in Windows 7 the CPU speed is much stable than 8. I installed all the latest windows 8 drivers,clean format,etc. Im running Build 9200.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat software (besides high performance mode in windows control panel) can lock the CPU at it's highest frequency?
My CPU is Intel Celeron Quad Core 2.00Ghz but it has a "burst" frequency up to 2.41Ghz (similar to turbo boost) and I would like it to stay at it's highest frequency since I have no worries about overheating (never goes above 42* C at full load).
The problem is the speed constantly changes between 2.00Ghz 2.03Ghz 2.07Ghz (and so on etc... in between 2.00Ghz and 2.41Ghz). And my browser speed constantly goes up and down webpages stalling and going fast causing stuttering so I wonder what software can remedy this little problem?
Or if there is some kind of overclocking software that would do something similar to locking the frequency? Tried all kinds of FSB-related tools but nada so far.
I have Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64, with Update 1. I want to ask you, where can be problem.
CPU --> Intel(R) Core i5 3230M 2,6 - 3,2 ghz
GPU --> Intel HD 4000 and nVidia GeForce GT740M 2GB (it switches how it needs)
RAM --> 4 GB DDR3 and 1 600 MHz (1,6 GHz)
HDD --> 750 gb with 5400 rpm --> (ST750LM022_HN-M750MBB)
I have installed windows like 2 days ago.
Now my questions:
1. Is it normal, when I just boot Windows, right after iccons apear, when I click to open some application, for example internet browser (using chrome) it takes long time? Like 6 seconds? But if I after windows boot wait 10 sec, then its working normally?
2. When I was playing some new games, actually BF4 and I minimized game, the Windows was responding horibly? Opening "My Computer" takes like 8 secs, opening browser takes even more..
My new laptop (Dell Inspiron 15RSE, 1TB @ 5400rpm, 8GB, i5-3230M@2.60GHz, AMD Radeon HD 7730M) is using the Google drive app to sync files between my Google account and my laptop. but it's using 100% of the disk speed and killing the performance of everything else.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow to boost the read/ write speed of my Hard Disk Drive. Someone told me about some innovation in Windows 8 such as Superfetch, Prefetch, Ready Boost, etc - something that is supposedly utilizing the idle capacity of your RAM/ SSD to boost the read/ write speed in the Hard Disk Drive.
Currently, my laptop is setup as follows;
120GB C Drive: running on SSD - has the Windows 8 and all apps installed in it,
500GB D Drive: has all the Libraries folders installed in it.
RAM = 4GB. PLanning to increase it by an additional 4GB.
Hence, how can i use the SSD or RAM to improve on the Hard Disk read/ write speed? Currently, my Intel SSD toolbox is showing as follows:
Question is how do we know if Superfetch / Prefetch is enabled based on the printscreen shown above? It just show that the feature is optimised.
By the way, can we transfer the following folders from C Drive to D Drive? Will it affect the computer performance?
Alright so my problem is that my DISK goes 100% constantly when there is 1-8MB transfer going on. Anyways it can go up to 100MB with disk testers.
Operating System errorDisk brokenVirus
I found a lot of 100% disk usage problems and their solutions, but none of them could fix mine.
So here is my issue : every time I copy files from one disk to another or even within the same disk among partitions and install a program/game, my computer becomes extremely slow. A single click is responded after 3-4 seconds. When I open control panel, it shows 100% disk usage. As soon as the file transfer gets over, everything becomes normal.
My problem is not my transfer speed. It is that while a transfer is happening, nothing else works. Even though the transfer rate is 6 -7 mbps
In window 7 it uses maximum 2gb of ram when transfering big file, say an example a movie size of 8gb. now in windows 8 it seems it uses 6-8GB its as if file is transfered into ram first and then slowly copy into targeted disk. just what is going on here and why microsoft decided to do this? if power goes out then all the files is gone and the entire process is actually slower imho.
Is there anyway to disable this? or revert it back to similar what 7 had?
I have two cards, a class 6 and a class 10. The problem is not reproducible on my laptop, which transfers around 8mg/sec.
I've had intermittent problems since upgrading. At first i was getting what i consider a normal transfer rate of 8-10 mg/sec with each card. But several weeks ago I began experiencing rates of UNDER 1 mg/sec. That is KILObytes. It takes an hour to transfer my photographs, which is amazingly not ok.
I have a standard HP set-up, basic computer model, AMD Phenom 8450 Triple-Core 2.1 GHz
I've noticed that when i turn the indexing off, the transfer rate rebounds to normal. But then i have to turn it back on and reboot before either I or a program can locate a file.
Which is also amazingly not ok.
I've tried everything i can think of short of a clean reinstall. Which i REALLY would like to avoid. I've already done that twice since upgrading in November.
I recently bought a new Windows 8.1 computer to replace my old 8.1 laptop. I was going to use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer all my settings and files, but I accidentally (on my old computer) clicked "This is my new computer" and I cannot change it to old.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 8.1 Pro and have just installed an 250gb SSD and also have a 1tb HDD. I have put the OS and various programs onto the SDD. I want to be able to have all data, for all users, pointed to save onto the HDD. (I will then get a 1tb USB3 HDD to back up the 1tb HDD - next step!).
I am getting very confused about how to make sure all documents/pictures/music/videos automatically get saved onto the HDD, rather than defaulting to the SSD. I also have user accounts for the family and I ideally want all photos/videos/music (but not documents) in just one location, so I end up with don't multiple copies of the same files saved by each user; they should all be access the same files.
When I first got my new laptop I made and image using Asus backup restore but all it did was make a copy of the restore partition on the hard drive. Is there a way to make an image of what the computer is with all the data and programs there are installed? I had to do a restore and then I had to reinstall everything and reload all my data files. This took a long time to do. It would be so much easier to just have an image of everything just the way it is now.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI enabled File History, and when I returned to my computer this morning I found that it had created copies of 1.14TB of my 1.19TB of data on the backup drive I had specified. However, it seems like the process has stopped, as every time I click the "Run Now" button, no new data is copied. The file size of the folder on my backup drive is still 1.14TB. Is there anything I can do to ensure that File History backs up / copies all my data?
