I am looking for a program something like what my library has on their computers. I want to be able to give each of the kids a username and password then when they log on a timer will automatically log them off say 30 min. but will also allow me to give them a max daily time limit. Or if this is possible within win 8 itself.

I get to the new win 8 graphical boot screen, but the timer is not working at all. I've tried to change the timer from the default 30 seconds to 15 seconds & back again with no success. It will sit on that boot menu for as long as I choose to wait before making a selection.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI enabled display hidden and system files, but system auto-disable its... I make it about three times, always with the same result. I don't know what causes this problem, I can't reproduce its (it isn't after reboot).
Also I have similar problem with system restore.I disabled it, but system turned it on again.
I've got a Vaio Fit 14E (SVF14215CLB) and since yesterday it keeps restarting after I don't use for about 5 minutes or so, every time i return it receives me with this message:

Today I thought I'd set a picture for my user account.
Nothing happens when I click or double click on the user account icon in the control panel.
I then went to check if our other pc was the same but that's fine.
I did notice that on mine instead of an icon of two people the icon is that of a folder.
I have tried accessing it through "Godmode" and it says it can't find it and also all the icons for user tasks are a blank piece of paper.
I am trying to add a second account to my machine and whether I try a Local or Microsoft account, I get the same "User Profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded" error every time I try to sign in for the first time. I've Googled this a bit and it seems everything I've found yet (except one) has been with logging in to existing profiles. For the one that was with a new profile, the solution didn't work.
I tried deleting all files similar to the specified one (file in C:UsersDefaultAppDataLocalMicrosoftVSCommon12.0SQM with name of "sqmdata-####-###-#####.sqm"), but that had no effect. I'm guessing this is because I have VS2013 installed, as this happens with my laptop as well. I don't want to delete my profile, I have important (and large) data in my documents folder that I don't want to lose. I'm guessing this will have to do with messing with the registry, but I don't know where to begin.
So, I wanted to download a game from the windows store and had to create a Live/microsoft account. After doning so win 8 made that account the account that I use to sigh-in to windows. Didn't wanted that so I went to user managment and deleted the account from thare. The problem is that I also accidenly deleted my windows user account as well.
After I restarted, I got to the password screen and my windows user was gone, just "other user". I tryed to enter the windows user name and password but nothing. the screen also showed the microsoft acount name but here also the password dident work (probably because a deleted them both from the system...)
I have been using an unelevated admin user account since installing win 8.1 pro and I've been having problems constantly (UAC nagging me, access denied when trying to kill processes and so on) and I decided I want to use the elevated admin account as my main. I understand security risks and convenience is more important to me as I don't have any sensitive information on my laptop. I was wondering if I can merge the user account I used until now, which has all my app settings, with the elevated admin user account and use that one from now on.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed 8.1 on my desktop with 3 local user accounts (no Microsoft accounts) and no user passwords, and Guest account Off. I have bypassed the lock screen but whenever the computer is switched on or a user signs out, the OS loads the last user instead of going to the user select screen. Something that all Windows OSs have done from go to Win 7. I can back arrow which does display the user select screen.
Or more importantly, any way to make it act like all previous Windows systems. I would not be fussed if this was a single user computer.
How come the UAC is set to the lowest setting for the admin, but for a standard user it is still set as default (requiring admin password)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a user with a machine that was setup with Win 8.1 Home. The machine has been upgraded to 8.1 Pro and joined to a domain (WinSrv 2003). I need to get the content/configuration from their old local machine user profile to their new domain user profile.
I tried to copy the contents of their ../users/<name>/.. folder from the local user profile to the new domain user profile (after they had logged in once, and then logged off). This did not work. When I did the copy, I grabbed all files, including hidden...was that my mistake, or is the issue broader?
In the end....they want their old stuff and configuration under their new credentials/profile.
My client has Windows 8 installed (with Windows 7 desktop, lolwut?), it's connected to the internet.
The clock changes every 10 minutes, despite being synchronised to internet time.
Here's some extra, straight forward information;
Machine - HP Pavilion G6
Time setting - London
Problem - Clock (System Time) keeps changing incorrectly after about 10 to 30 minutes.
Since yesterday, I keep getting Kernel Inpage Error like every 15 mins I turnd the computer on. It runs on pre-installed Windows 8 after I bought it new a year ago. In the past, I have been getting BSOD, but it is usually after I wake it from sleep mode and the error is IRQL EQUAL OR LESS ..
View 4 Replies View RelatedApproximately every 10min my Windows 8 do a sound. The sound is little bit like when you connect something to usb port.
Everything works well and theoretically it isn't big deal. Practically is does hell from watching of anything. When I watch movie, serial or just some video on youtube this sound turns player's sound off. Sometimes its silenced only on short time but mostly it's permanent. Only one solution in this situation is to reset movie player or reload web page.
In every case when I hear this sound, I can find Surrogate process in task manager. I think it can has connectivity.
After im playing in this case battlefield bad company 2 or now it was battlefield 4 after like 5-10 minutes i hear my video card is working very hard it's fan and the temperature is like 110-117c.
Then after more 5 minutes or so the monitor is shut down and the pc is frozen i can't click anything only can restart the pc. It's like the pc is in sleep mode but frozen. I don't have any blue screen before it.
I'm not sure if the problem is drivers like the video card drivers memory or virus. I have nod 32 did scan last night cleaned 17 threats.
I have started having this random problem , well its only just started the last couple of days and I haven't installed anything or changed anything. I have all monitor sleep function's set to never and every time I walk away from the computer for about 20 min the monitors seem to go off and I have to move the mouse and they come back on.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Win 8 computer. I love it, however it wakes from sleep mode every 15 minutes on the dot. It will wake for about 2 minutes than sleep again.
Is this something it should do in order to get some air flow every once in a while or can I stop it from doing this? I have searched around online and tried everything i have come across. I turned off the setting that allows programs to wake the computer, as well as made sure the ethernet connection doesn't wake it.
After a windows update crashed during startup, my laptop is taking 20+ minutes on the "welcome" loading bar after you login. The login screen itself it very laggy and takes 5 minutes to navigate. The "Lenovo" loading screens upon startup takes 3 or 4 minutes.
Occasionally a black screen will appear and I cant get past it in the loading process.
I am having this problem since the last 2 days.

Windows restarts every 5 minutes or so.
It doesn't fall asleep. I have it set to turn the display off at 10 minutes, and to go into sleep mode at 15. That works perfectly!
But, how when your PC is starting up or waking up, and when the cursor first displays, it works intermittently? You can try to move it around, and it doesn't react very well. Not until your PC is fully awake.
This happens every time I don't touch my keyboard or mouse for between 3 and 4 minutes. Then it takes about 20 seconds to fully wake up after I touch the keyboard or mouse. Drives me nuts!
I don't have any unusual or unknown programs on my PC, and I don't believe it's malware. Otherwise my PC runs great. Fast.
I have some 80 minutes CD-medias, that I want to fill with music for my car. But Windows media Player will only accept up to 74 minutes on each CD. How do I get Media player to split my music-lists in 80 minutes instead of 74 minutes?

Every five minutes I recieve the BSOD and it says critical_process_died. The weird thing is, I reset my computer back to factory settings and as soon as I booted it did it again... I got my computer to work for like 10 minutes and as soon as I thought it stopped for good, it did it again.
My PC sometimes crashes during bootup too.
Edit: I was just downloading something and halfway in it said something like "Failed to download and install files". Then the taskbar in the bottom of my screen disapeared and my computer got the BSOD saying "Critical_Process_Died"...
Get tons of BSODs, a different explanations very time. I get Memory Management, Kernel Security Check Fail, NTFS File System, System Service Exceptions...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new desktop PC. I've had it a few weeks and for some reason I've recently been having trouble with the wireless. I can verify that the problem is with the computer, as my old laptop, my phone, and other devices all seem to be doing fine and don't experience the same problem. As the title says, every few minutes, the WiFi stops. It doesn't go completely, it simply changes to the picture with the asterisk (*) in the bottom right. This happens for only a couple of seconds before it goes back to normal. Then, it will happen again after a few minutes. This is completely infuriating when trying to watch videos online.
Sometimes when I use the troubleshooter it finds a problem with the WiFi adapter and resets it, and then says the issue is fixed.
