After disabling IE 10 I get a warning message if opening a hyperlink. This appears in all Office 2013 applications.
" Your organization's policies are preventing us to complete this action for you."
I want to open hyperlinks with another browser. I cannot find a policy that is configured to prevent opening a hyperlink. My browser is set as default and the file associations are correct.
I have three Windows PCs - 1 Windows 7 Pro laptop, a Windows 7 Home Prem PC and a Surface Pro (Win 8 Pro).
Lately (the past month or so) I have had trouble opening a couple of webpages, notably en.wikipedia.org from the Win 8 Surface Pro. Sometimes it opens OK, many times it fails to open, with the spinning wheel on the tab. It times out.
The other PCs have no problem opening wikipedia whilst this problem is evident on the Win 8 Surface Pro. This problem exhibits itself whether I use my default FF browser, or if I use IE as browser - same problem.
If I use Control Panel > Network > Properties and DISABLE IPv6, then wikipedia opens fine right away.
A reboot of the Surface Pro fixes it for a while, but it returns. A reboot of the router (Linksys E4200) also seems to improve the situation, temporarily.
I purchased an HP Notebook PC 2000-2c20NR last week that came pre-installed with Windows 8. Somehow - I think it was when I was trying to change settings to where I do not have to give a password everytime I log in - I became lost as the Administrator. I am the only one who uses this laptop.
So, now I am stuck, unable to change settings, install/uninstall programs, etc. Everytime I try to change something, I am given this error screen:
As you see, it asks me to type an administrator password, then click Yes. The "Yes" option is greyed out and disabled. I have tried everything I could find to change this, but in order to make any changes, I have to be the Adminstrator (which I am), but this error screen pops up with any and everything I do. I have even tried a System Restore/Recovery, but I can't, because the UAC will not let me continue as Administrator.
The status of my account currently names me a "local user."
I have Norton Internet Security 2013 installed and no viruses, etc are present.

The PC boots up and I can log in ok but I am unable to open any browsers, use the start bar or actually get in to most programs, use the search function or get in to any settings as it just hangs.
I can get to the start menu through charms and I can access My Pc from there but opening control panel hangs as well. I am also unable to get to the troubleshooting and repair.
I have tried to restart and press and hold the shift key but it just hangs again when restarting, also tried to log out of my profile but that also hangs.
I have tried to boot from a USB with a windows 8 ISO to get in to the repair from there but that doesn't seem to work - Also the windows product key shows as 'not available' ?how to actually do anything with my now expensive paperweight that has a pretty but non-functioning desktop screen ?
I can't access WinStore and PC Settings, it just takes me back to my Start Screen. I tried using Microsoft's Fix-it stuff and said I have missing files and dll.I don't want to refresh or reset my PC , but if I have no choice, I will have to do so. And also I tried to sfc /scannow and this is the result.

Hyperlinks in metro tiles doesn't work. For example hotmail hyperlinks doesn't work or skype try to open but fail. I think the problem occurred after a deep registry clean i made but i am not sure. I tried to uninstall/reinstall the programs but no results.
I have many files with several thousands hyperlinks embedded in them. How do I convert the embedded hyperlinks from .doc to .docx and from .xls to .xlsx. I do not have hyperlinks to internet sources in there.
View 1 Replies View Relatedinstalling apps on my laptop running window 8.1. I select install the app I want. The store downloads it and "installs" it. The files are hidden in the program files however in the start menu the app icon is just a box. When i click on it, it says that there is a problem and it cannot be opened. the store would repair the install. I have tried that but no luck. No apps seems to be working that I download and i cant delete them because there is no such option in the start menu. And then manually deleting the files is also impossible because windows blocks it even when i have admin rights.

Installed Office Professional Plus 2010 on new computer with Windows 8. Can create and open all Office documents except unable to open existing Excel documents. When try to open, I am asked for the activation key. When key is entered, get message that key is not valid. Inserted install disk and re-entered activation key. Did not work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded windows 8 prof from my msdn, and I made a bootable usb stick with WintoFlash and now when I am trying to install I get this message: Windows cannot open the required file D:/Sources/install.wim. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, Error code: 0x80070570. I have looked into the usb stick but install.wim is just there. And I did a disk chek in wintoflash and it found this:

Yet another lovely problem with 8.1. When I plug in my drive, it shows up in with all of my other drives, and when I double click it to open it, the explorer window freezes, and doesn't unfreeze until I unplug the flash drive. I don't know what went wrong. Maybe it is a driver issue? I am positive that the drive is fine, because it works on my laptop, and even works on this computer in a linux virtual machine.

It's not serious because I can use the apps on other users, but it would still be nice to have it fixed. I really don't feel like resetting my system.

Other computers/phones/tablets at home on the same network can access folders from the internal HD on my main computer.
But, with shared folders from external hard drives - despite showing up while accessing the network cannot be opened or read from connected devices or other computers on the network.
I'm a relative amateur when it comes to networking but I did not have this issue with my older windows 7 home computer.
The default PDF opener (Windows Reader) opens my PDF fine but the links are just text, they are not hyperlinks. It works fine in 7. How I can get these hyperlinks working?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my old Win 7 and Win Vista and Win XP laptops I've had no problems opening and viewing my old MPEG-2 video files. My new laptop running Win 8.1 will not allow me to view them.
Windows Media Player will only recognize them as audio files - not video - though the sound will play. Real Player is the same - the application will open and begin playing a file but only as audio file. I've tried the built in Toshiba media player and it shows errors and won't open the files at all.
Again - these are conforming MPEG-2 NTSC 760X480 video file (old analog home movies) captured using an ATI video card dongle to connect to my video source and an old version of capture application ULead Video Studio. These files conform in every way to MPEG-2 standard/format and will run on all of our PC EXCEPT the new one running Win 8.
I bought and loaded a video editing application from Corel and it will open and play these files perfectly so why won't Win Media Player and Real Player recognize them when running behind Windows 8?
I've been using windows 8 since its release and I really like it after installing vis start windows 8 start menu since day 2.
I recently uninstalled all of my drivers and updated them. After doing this I can no longer use hyperlinks thru yahoo, gmail, att or any webmail. I also cannot access windows firewall to reset the firewall settings or open the firewall rules or anything on the system which uses a hyperlink. I never had this problem before uninstalling all of my old drivers, installing new ones, and running driver sweeper in between to ensure no driver conflicts.
How do I fix this? I certainly hope a reinstall isn't my only option.
Since 48 hours, for all new mails incoming, the hyperlinks (either mail adress or www adresses) won't even be clickable in the mail messages... They show up as normal text, and I have to select, copy and paste them into my browser...
The links are still there fot the less recent mails (those recieved last week)
I really hav'nt changed anything in my settings.. I am syncing a gmail account. The hyperlinks will work in Outlook, and even in my Windows Phone mail app, so I doubt it has anything to do with gmail itself...
I'm trying to keep the windows 8 start screen open on one screen and have the other open to the desktop, but any time I click an app on the desktop the 2nd screen with the Windows 8 start screen minimizes. Is there any way to change this behavior?

But, since around 4am today (ICT), this popped out of nowhere: Windows goes to sleep despite the Power Options being set to disable sleep both while on AC power and on battery. I have also checked the Advanced Power Options as well, and it confirmed the settings. I only left the laptop for about half an hour just to come back and found out it has gone to sleep mode, and Event Viewer says the system went to sleep from being idle!! I've included a screenshot as well just to clarify that this isn't a sort of common mistakes.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using Win 8 Pro for a couple of months now, but a few days ago the metro interface stopped appearing, and I've been unable to get it back. I know a lot of people want it disabled, but I've gotten used to it, and in particular the WIN+I shortcuts for the menu....
The keyboard itself is still functional. I ran a check using OSK, and it shows that the system registers the key as being pressed, so it's not a physical fault on the keyboard.
The metro screen no longer opens when the WIN key is pressed, and the system panel doesn't open when the move is moved to the far right either...
I've had to resort to installing the "Win 8 Start Button" Application to get me the functionality that I need. Is there some kind of quick key that disables it which I might have pressed by accident?
The only changes I can think of are having plugged in two USB hard drives which had some old data and were then formatted. FYI the virus scanner didn't alert me to any potential threat.... The change that I think is more likely is one of the auto updates from either Microsoft or the antivirus program (BitDefender 2013), but I can't remember which one performed last.
Is there a way just to force the metro to start?
I've been to hundreds of pages online to try and solve this issue and everybody seems to have the opposite problem I do. When I reach the login page num lock is enabled, which is perfect, but after I sign in the num lock key is disabled. I frequently hit the num lock key by accident so I used Sharp Keys to disable the key entirely and set the initialkeyboardindicators value in the registry to 2.
This was working perfectly until this week and I have no clue why. When I check the registry, the value is set back to 0. Every time I try to set it to 2 it is simply overwritten when I log in. I have also turned off fast startup as I read that on several forums but I have the same issue.
I've looked in BIOS (UEFI) and I can't seem to find any setting that would control this. I changed every entry in the registry for initialkeyboardindicators - I tried both 2 and 2147483650. I also created a new user to see if they would have the same issues but they did.
