Nov 11, 2013have windows 8 pre installed on my hp laptop, i downloaded linux ubuntu but whenever i try and run ubuntu i keep getting the same error message: oxc000007b. I tried deleting it so that i could reinstall the software and then was given another error message which was: ox80004002.

Jan 5, 2014I've been messing with lubuntu and backtrack and decided to install Backtrack5 on my laptop(Lenovo N586). I couldn't boot into windows 8.1 after installing Backtrack5 R3, but I had no problem booting into backtrack(I think I made a mistake of installing backtrack bootloader in the same place where Windows bootloader was...). I was able to boot into windows 8.1 after fixing the windows bootloader, but this time I couldn't boot into backtrack5. I wanted to start fresh and uninstalled Backtrack5 using boot-repair-disk. And ever since I uninstalled the backtrack5, I cannot boot into anything unless I use live linux usb. I've literally tried almost everything I could find in the past a couple of days on the internet including the forum. It says my hard drive is locked and I don't really have any available options that actually work(like refresh, start up repair, diagnostic, reinstall, nothing works). Windows 7 recovery CD didn't work saying I am using different version of OS, so I should use different recovery CD.

3 Days ago I tried to install Linux OS on XP partition ( earlier I had a XP+ Windows 7 dual boot and I upgraded windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro).

Jul 18, 2014I am clean installing Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu on a friends new laptop and although I have taken Clonezilla images of partitions on my personal laptop should I ever need them I was hoping there was something more user friendly I could install on my friend's laptop. Anarethos Recovery Toos with Media Creator seems to be what I am after but I am not sure if that will mess up the boot settings or even completely remove Linux.
Ideally I am looking for something that can be launched by holding a hotkey down at boot. When launched it will offer to restore the main Windows 8.1 system partition (GPT) with all drivers and programs installed exactly how it is when I hand it over, and if possible offer to restore the Ubuntu /home partion. The crux is that Windows can be restored without affecting Ubuntu.

Apr 30, 2014Okay now I have an issue with windows, namely secureboot and UEFI. HP Pavilion laptop that came preinstalled with windows 8.1 but didnt like it and wanted a dual boot.
So I gave him Ubuntu 13.10 as it has UEFI support and everything was fine until we updated to Ubuntu 14.04. Sadly it did not load windows via grub and windows would fail to boot.
However after repairing the windows boot manager I knew I had to reinstall linux which would normally be fine but now windows and windows alone now boots, no grub, no nothing.

However I checked everything and windows seems to be the cause of my woes. As does UEFI. Now we would like to keep windows on this machine however I am thinking of removing the /efi partition

Windows 8 Stuck At Black Screen (with Mouse Cursor) After Deleting Linux Partition
Aug 15, 2014I have a problem in my dual boot machine. I decided to remove Linux mint 17 from my dual boot with windows 8.
I used easeus partition manager to delete the partitions associated (root, home and swap). Then I got unallocated space just before my windows partition. So I moved my windows partition to the extreme left possible. Then I merged this unallocated space with my second storage partition.
These steps required reboot (specifically the moving of windows partition). When I rebooted my PC I got an error that grub was not found. I realized that I had forgot to fix MBR and load windows boot loader. So I used windows 7 recovery disk (yes windows 7 as I don't have windows8 recovery or installation disk). I got a windows 7 style boot loader instead of windows 8's graphical one which has advanced recovery options built in. But I proceeded. Then eases did its job with the partitions. After a reboot now I am stuck at a black screen after entering my password with a movable mose cursor. I can only press Ctrl+alt+del. Selecting task manager from it does nothing.
Since I don't have windows 8 disks and windows 8 boot loader I am not able to refresh or reset my PC. Neither can I shift restart my PC to get advanced boot options. One more thing to note, that while entering password, I noticed that the lock screen and account pictures have changed to defaults of a freshly installed windows.

Jan 17, 2014A friend's Samsung laptop would no longer boot, and startup repair would run and failed several times.
We planned to restore it to factory original, but wanted to boot to a Linux disk to copy his files first. In order to allow that, we went into Setup and disabled Fast Bios mode, disabled Secure Boot, and changed the OS mode from UEFI to CSM. We booted the Linux disk, copied his files, then reset all the Setup settings back. But now the computer will not boot at all, it shows the Samsung logo screen, then shuts itself off. We reset Setup to Optimized Defaults, made no change.
There does not seem to be any hardware failure since I can still boot to the Linux disk and see the hard drive if I make all the same changes that we made the first time around in Setup.

May 14, 2014I have a graphic card nVidia GeForce GTX 750, which has worked properly in some cases but in others something strange is happening.
Recently I was playing FIFA 14 and suddenly a BSOD pop up, with a message "whea_uncorrectable_error".
Before I used to use Google Chrome as my default browser, but when I watched a video from YouTube in Chrome the same BSOD pop up.
I think the problem is related with the graphic card, but when I play other things, for example, Assassin's Creed or League of Legends, the problem never emerged.Another interesting thing is that I'm unable to install linux in my computer, because it reboots automatically after some minutes, and based on what I researched is related also with the incompatibility from linux (fedora, ubuntu) with my graphic card.

Apr 5, 2014I have a couple of 4GB usb pen drives and a 16 GB ADATA one.
When I want to boot from the Linux I have installed in the pen drive, do I have to go to F2, enter the bios and set it to boot from USB or can I tap F12 and do it that way. I have used the 3 major installers, Linux Live USB installer, UNetbootin and USB Universal Installer and cannot get Ubuntu or any distro to boot from this drive. I have formatted it as FAT 32 not NTFS.
I had some success booting from the 4GB pen drives with some distros but not always.
I installed Zorin OS which was great but it started to ask for a password which was never mentioned in the process so I had to delete it.
The question is, am I booting wrong to be making so many errors? I have a Win 8.1 OS with 6 GB ram.
I have 3 4GB pen drives and a 16 GB drive. The 16 is an ADATA and the others are Sandisk.
All I want is a live USB with persistence for updates. I found Ubuntu the easiest and Zorin equal to it except for the password issue.

Dec 14, 2013Don't think my OS was backed up since I was using the Home Premium version, but any recovery of files data and/or GNU licensed programs will be extremely useful.
My camper van was broken into and the OEM support disks are gone as well. Used the standard MS back up procedure on an external usb disk drive. The latter is back home, which I could FedEx to where I'm staying for the winter.
