I have purchased a Laptop Dell Vostro 3560 in Linux. I want to switch to Windows 8.
On Dell Website its mentioned that Dell is providing additional software for Windows 8. From where can I download additional software for Windows 8.
I have a Dell XPS 13 and the F3 button has a battery sign on it. Pressing it brings up some battery meter property . Is there any way I can change that to toggling between two of my Power Plans ("Power Saving, High Performance") each time I press?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 5 screens, 3 screens connected to a display card, and 2 on motherboard.
When i was with windows 7, no problem at all for the past 2 years. Once upgraded to Windows 8.1, windows DOES recognise all 5 screens, however, it will revert back to a single screen and 800 x 600 resolution.
I will have to enable and reposition all screens again until the next restart.
My problem is impossibility to pin something on any additional taskbars. Everything is ok on the primary tb. I guess this is impossible in Win 8.1... but how can I do this? May be with third party software?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a bit of an issue though. A few days ago, I went into Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Language and added French as an additional language. I changed the input method for it to US-QWERTY and it offered to download an additional language pack -- which I did.
It decided to set it to my system language upon reboot. As soon as I got back in (which took some time, I'm only just starting French classes! ), I set English back to the system language, uninstalled the French language pack, and removed French as an additional language entirely.
However, something appears to be stuck. Windows still has that language configured even though it does not show in the Control Panel, and when I use IE (Chrome has been freezing lately), my spell check is in French, NOT English -- which is the default language. Resetting IE completely (in the Tools, Advanced menu) did nothing.
Here's a pic (Warning! It's a bit larger than 640x480). You can see the language selection "tool/widget" by the clock, and you can see the dialog that shows English AND French are apparently configured for use, even though the Control Panel window shows only English.

have windows 8 pre installed on my hp laptop, i downloaded linux ubuntu but whenever i try and run ubuntu i keep getting the same error message: oxc000007b. I tried deleting it so that i could reinstall the software and then was given another error message which was: ox80004002.

It "fixed" only when I reinstall the language that I cannot switch into or when I re-log into windows.

I don't do a lot of heavy gaming but I do play Minecraft. I looked at the specs of that laptop, it was Core i5 processor at 1.8/2.7 GHz 4gb ram and nvidia GeForce graphics card dedicated with 2gb. Will these specs be enough to run Minecraft without any lag? Also, why did it say 1.8/2.7 GHz? Which one is it?

I would like to enable virtualization so that I can run 64 bit virtual machines, but it does not give me the option to boot into the BIOS. No pressing Esc, delete, F11, or F12 boots me into the BIOS. I was not able to boot into the BIOS even before dual booting.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been messing with lubuntu and backtrack and decided to install Backtrack5 on my laptop(Lenovo N586). I couldn't boot into windows 8.1 after installing Backtrack5 R3, but I had no problem booting into backtrack(I think I made a mistake of installing backtrack bootloader in the same place where Windows bootloader was...). I was able to boot into windows 8.1 after fixing the windows bootloader, but this time I couldn't boot into backtrack5. I wanted to start fresh and uninstalled Backtrack5 using boot-repair-disk. And ever since I uninstalled the backtrack5, I cannot boot into anything unless I use live linux usb. I've literally tried almost everything I could find in the past a couple of days on the internet including the forum. It says my hard drive is locked and I don't really have any available options that actually work(like refresh, start up repair, diagnostic, reinstall, nothing works). Windows 7 recovery CD didn't work saying I am using different version of OS, so I should use different recovery CD.

I am clean installing Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu on a friends new laptop and although I have taken Clonezilla images of partitions on my personal laptop should I ever need them I was hoping there was something more user friendly I could install on my friend's laptop. Anarethos Recovery Toos with Media Creator seems to be what I am after but I am not sure if that will mess up the boot settings or even completely remove Linux.
Ideally I am looking for something that can be launched by holding a hotkey down at boot. When launched it will offer to restore the main Windows 8.1 system partition (GPT) with all drivers and programs installed exactly how it is when I hand it over, and if possible offer to restore the Ubuntu /home partion. The crux is that Windows can be restored without affecting Ubuntu.

My friend is running a cracked version of Windows 8 and he got the "activate windows" watermark on the screen.
He wants to buy a legal copy of windows 8 but he doesn't want to format and reinstall. Basically, he just wants to buy it so the watermark can disappear.

Okay now I have an issue with windows, namely secureboot and UEFI. HP Pavilion laptop that came preinstalled with windows 8.1 but didnt like it and wanted a dual boot.
So I gave him Ubuntu 13.10 as it has UEFI support and everything was fine until we updated to Ubuntu 14.04. Sadly it did not load windows via grub and windows would fail to boot.
However after repairing the windows boot manager I knew I had to reinstall linux which would normally be fine but now windows and windows alone now boots, no grub, no nothing.

However I checked everything and windows seems to be the cause of my woes. As does UEFI. Now we would like to keep windows on this machine however I am thinking of removing the /efi partition
Will windows 8 still work if I do this?
