MS has added another stupid thing in W8-1: SwitchPopup.jpg
It usually displays in Metro and it can be killed by switching to desktop and back to Metro. However last time it displayed in desktop and and was totally persistent to my killing attempts... So how to disable it to never appear again?
I want the volume popup bar with the track title information for Windows Media Player, is this possible, perhaps with a registry edit?
I mainly notice it in gMusic app and I've seen the Pandora app have it as well (Whenever I hit the pause button, it will pop up with album art, artist and track info as well as a volume slider) ...
I mainly use Windows Media Player for music though so I'd like this cool feature for that program, it would be very handy when I'm playing a game and I don't want to alt+tab out just to see what song is playing ...
I wanted to know if is it possible to switch between modern ui (as it is by default) and desktop apps, all in the same left pane in Windows 8.1?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have touchpad laptop. once 2 apps are established the apps(very) frequently switch by very slight touchpad arrow mpvement in central part of screen 1-is this normal?(I find it infuriating) 2-can be eliminated? (ie..restrict switch behavior to edge movements)
View 3 Replies View RelatedEver since I switch to windows 8.1, I usually get random black bars in chrome when i switch to other apps. The black bars goes away when I move my mouse over it. This doesn't happen on windows 8 or windows 7. I have HD 6970 gpu and the latest video card driver.
Also, I notice that in windows 7 and win 8, when i right click the chrome icon on the task bar, it would have options like new window and new incognito window, but in window 8.1 it's gone.
I am using Windows 8.1 pre-installed on a new laptop used mostly for business, and use a mouse, keyboard and graphics tablet. I find that frequently a "Windows Accessories" app Windows Journal for note-taking and handwriting conversion opens a new file for no apparent reason. I have had as many as 20 empty windows start) and want to disable this but can't find away to.
When showing apps as tiles, there is no "uninstall" option for Windows category items (Accessories, Ease of Access, system) as far as I can see.
In Control Panel / Programs & Features/ there is no Windows Accessories Item.
In the Settings/PC settings/Search and Apps/App sizes only a couple of these "Accessories" are shown (e.g. Calculator and sound Recorder) but most others including Journal aren't.
Is there any other way to disable or remove this app?
After updating to update 1, i am becoming more and more frustrated with the inability to disable modern app title bar that was included in the update. I have absolutely no use for it. it just gets in the way, when using remote desktop and other apps. please tell me there is a way to get rid of this useless "feature" (through registry or otherwise).
View 9 Replies View RelatedAlthough I don't use the metro screen very often I sometimes use the Apps screen in Windows 8.1 -- the Languages of some of the APPS tiles don't change after you've switched a language say back to English -- having changed all the settings back to display say in English again.
For example switching back from ISL to ENG you can see a load of the tiles haven't changed back to ENG.
I love the new top bar, but it's become annoying after I've discovered Chrome in Windows 8 Mode. Is there any way to disable it?

A lot of the times I swipe from right to left and the charms bar pops up, when this happens I usually accidentally select something from the bar, then I get angry have to click desktop every time.
I google searched it and I found nothing useful. I already tried turning it off through classic shell, edited registrar keys, but neither of them work.
Am I the only one who sees this as a bad flaw design?
I have been using Windows 8 Pro 64bit version for a few months now and after a few teething problems I love it. I have disabled the UAC via the control panel, registry and the Local Security Policy editor etc... so now I don't get any popups at all. It's come to a point though where I now want to try out some of the apps but can't because without the UAC turned on I can't run any of them.
My question is is it possible to keep UAC turned off but still be able to run these apps?, I would love to know any tweak I can use to enable this but I won't compromise system stability for it.

Ever since I installed Windows 8.1 a blank green Microsoft "Store" window pops up from time to time on my desktop. When I click on it, the green is replaced by a normal Store page advertising trending apps, etc.
This unwanted Store pop-up seems to appear at random intervals and is a real nuisance. I certainly never expected to get unwanted advertising pop-ups from a company like Microsoft!
How to get rid of this annoying intrusion?
I use windows 8.1 and have enabled boot-to-desktop.
Every time after booting into windows, when I check task manager, there are some metro apps already running in the background, like reading list, onenote and reader.
Is there a way to stop metro apps from automatically running at startup?
EDIT: Ok, the issue resolved itself. I don't know how, but they are not running in the background anymore, except for store which is obvious.
I suppose they were doing some sort of scanning or indexing maybe.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI transferred many music files from a backup drive onto a new laptop running Windows 8, and found most renamed as numbered files with a .ptl extension. Found out that my backup drive (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex) doesn't like long filenames and renames them as referenced above. ("ptl" stands for "path too long"). I have been renaming them, dumping the ptl extension to get the files back as mp3's, but I get a confirmation window that I have to click "yes" to for each and every change I attempt. I'd love to kill the confirm popup for every file I change, it doubles the time involved for each file and I have enough work just renaming the files back to their original names. I've looked all over the control panel for something to uncheck to accomplish this, with no success.

Okay, I am getting Watch Dogs, Which is a 64-bit only game. My hardware is 64-bit capable, its just that my hard drive fried, and i am back onto my old HDD which had 32-bit Windows 8 installed.I upgraded to Windows 8.1 but now i want to go back to 64-bit.Is there a way to get my windows to 64-bit without anything else changing?I want everything EXACTLY the way it was, if possible.
