Jun 16, 2013A window with the title of "App Caster for Android" pops up every time windows starts up. I'm not sure what this application is, does, or even where it came from.

Jun 8, 2012I've been getting a "File Access Denied, You'll need to provide administrator permission to rename this file", popup window even with UAC turned off?
The files in question are shortcuts in the C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms.
It also happens in C:UsersUser-NameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms.
Basically what I'm doing is renaming the title of the tiles/programs displayed on the Metro Start screen. If there is a better way I'm all for that as having to click continue every time is getting old.
Galaxy S4 - Android Wakes Windows 8.1
Jun 7, 2014I'm not sure when this problem started happening, but recently, when I plug in or unplug the power of my Galaxy S4, the computer will wake from sleep. I'm running CyanogenMod 11 on it, which is based on Android 4.4.2. I haven't installed or configured any apps on my PC to allow for this, nor any apps on the phone. How I can stop it?

Jun 19, 2014Transferring files from Windows to (or From) a Sammy S5 phone's external micro SDHC card seems to take for ever.
Using Linux (Opensuse or Linux Mint) the device immediately comes up as an MTP device and transfer is around 7 mb/s which is fine for a Micro sdhc card.
Have I got something screwed on the Windows system -- it doesn't recognize the device as an MTP device - it just seems to recognize the internal card as another Disk -- but so SLOOOOOOOOOOW !!!!.

Sep 28, 2013I have setup a n54l hp micro server with windows 8 as my home server and shared a folder with password protection set to off (needed to enable guest account for this to work btw which seemed strange)
Now file transfer between my windows pcs is fast (30MB/s over wifi) but to my android phone and tablet the speed is horribly slow (30kb/s i.e. 1000x slower)
Before I used a readynas duo as my file server and my transfer speeds with my phone were about 0.5MB/s and on pc about 5/MB/s
I have tried different applications on my phone with no change in speed (currently using es file explorer)

Oct 25, 2013I am a traditionalist and so run permanently in "desktop" mode because I don't like the look and feel of the new Windows 8.
Ever since I installed Windows 8.1 a blank green Microsoft "Store" window pops up from time to time on my desktop. When I click on it, the green is replaced by a normal Store page advertising trending apps, etc.
This unwanted Store pop-up seems to appear at random intervals and is a real nuisance. I certainly never expected to get unwanted advertising pop-ups from a company like Microsoft!

Version(S): PC: Win8.1 64-bit Android tablet: android 4.4 other tablet: Win8.1 not sure bit version
Detail: Need to transfer file from CD to Win8.1 tablet. Steps tried:
-extracted files from CD to .SFX archive and added a copy to PC and Tablet (android4.4)
-tried over cloud, cloud upload failed and retried multiple times for same result.
-tried direct file transfer from pc to WinTablet and from AndroidTablet to WinTablet with the appropriate cables, both times neither device detected the other
-tried file transfer over homegroup, gave error message about "access denied" even after giving access on both devices
-tried email but .sfx was too large (almost 800MB)
-tried over Bluetooth on both devices (PC and android) again transfer failed
-tried over WiFi connection, failed access denied
-tried over Ethernet cable but only PC has Ethernet port.

Feb 8, 2013I transferred many music files from a backup drive onto a new laptop running Windows 8, and found most renamed as numbered files with a .ptl extension. Found out that my backup drive (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex) doesn't like long filenames and renames them as referenced above. ("ptl" stands for "path too long"). I have been renaming them, dumping the ptl extension to get the files back as mp3's, but I get a confirmation window that I have to click "yes" to for each and every change I attempt. I'd love to kill the confirm popup for every file I change, it doubles the time involved for each file and I have enough work just renaming the files back to their original names. I've looked all over the control panel for something to uncheck to accomplish this, with no success.

Feb 10, 20143 days before my Windows 8.1 pc wasn't working during log in it showed up with "The System Event Notification Service service failed the sign in."
I posted this thread but no one replied then back yesterday I ran it into Safe Mode and used the CMD and put these "sfc/scannow" then the PC booted into Safe Mode.
But in my Start Menu many apps won't open accept Facebook, Twitter, Photos and the Store opens, and when I goto install apps it shows "This app wasn't installed"
And my Start menu is like this:
And the "sfc/scannow" command shows that there are Corrupted or Missing Files Then I also did these:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanhealthDISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth But then also no luck .what to do I updated my PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 4 days before And this happened 3 days before And the PC started to boot from yesterday.
